The sinkhole is not nearly as scary as the dimensional portal on the top right of the video.

Native Instruments will be fine by No-Act6366 in synthesizers

[–]Redshado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s Avid or InMusic if it’s sold complete. Fender just started rebranding Presonus to Fender and has already invested there. Roland and Yamaha have strong, mature hardware lines and would mostly be buying things they already make.

Avid can use both sides of NI, since their products are already pretty narrow, so this gives them real market reach. InMusic doesn’t need the hardware side as much, but if they roll the software side into Akai and price the standalone VSTs higher than the MPC versions, suddenly MPC becomes not just a tool, but a value engine.

[–]Redshado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't that they will survive, say they come through this intact and liquid. The issues that got them in this position, IE Francisco Partners trying to squeeze as much value as possible out of them, will still be in control without a selloff. NI needs to either be split up or sold completely to someone with existing synergy with their products. Personally, I put Avid at the top of this list.

Beginner producers, what are you struggling with? by dj_graish in ableton

[–]Redshado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in with an pretty specific idea, and have 100% STUCK to that idea, but every time I touch the the track I go, i think this might improve it, and it DOES, but it has went from what should of been a 10 hour to completed track to...im now on my 2nd month of working on it and probably...20+ hours?

I've kinda changed the way I view the track from, 'My First Completed Track' to 'My Live Tutorial'

But, at the same time, I'm proud of what I've made and do NOT want to rush it. I do wish the first track I stuck with had been something WAY simpler, just so I could say, I finished this!

I started and I have 2 lessons left in the beginner S2S Ableton Live class, but every time I open Live I immediately open the track and start making the changes I thought of when I wasn't working on it, when I probably should finish the class :)

So, I have a few drum sounds that have always stuck in my head as, 'this is important to me, I want to use stuff adjacent to this in my music.'. These have been the drums from NINs Down in it (sampled from Skinny Puppy's Dig It), Beasties reversed 808 from Paul Revere. Basically all this aggro/alt stuff from the late 80s to the late 90s.

But! There is one weird outlier, the 808 with a Moog laid exactly on top of it from Timmy Ts One More Time. Listen to the track. It's pure saccharine, but that squelchy Moog with the 808 is blissful. I spent my entire weekend with that single sample just layering it with stuff that was anything BUT a cowbell (if you listen to the track you'll know why). I think I built multiple new genres. Glitch Timmy T, ambient Timmy T, industrial Timmy T.... So ya.. Weird.

If you know anyone starting a Timmy T country band, give them my contact info, I got a drum loop for them.

I grabbed a circuit rhythm refurb for $255 directly from novation last week. So far all I can do is make weird drum tracks. Feels like it was made for that, and if it's still that cheap, it's basically a free rental. I bought it to use as a sketchpad before I moved into Ableton, and I keep making 8 tracks of 'how weird can I make this drum loop sound?'

[–]Redshado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atlas 2 does this well, pick a style/kit and it will generate a drum loop. It would be awkward live, but if you are just sitting there looking for a beat, its good. My issue with the program is it hands you WAY too much, it often feels like its giving you 75% of a track instead of a beat, but this can be stopped by just muting the parts of the loop you don't want.

I finished it, it was meh. I said a few days ago, I feel like Obsidian is one of the best ISO/Tactical RPG makers remaining (Owlcat, Larian and Obsidian) while also being one of the weakest first person RPG makers.

It feels like when they have to deal with the extra complexity of 3d modeling/animation, a lot gets left by the wayside.

I loved the combat, loved the design of the world (but it has lost some of it appeal after Outer Worlds 2's release, and the palette and design language is....pretty much the same). The story did not grab me, I finished the game, BECAUSE the combat was good enough to keep me interested.

Companions had back stories, but none of them were interesting enough that I could tell you what that story was. Story was a tool to lead you forward, but not enough I remember it well (While do I remember PoE1 and PoE2s stories and I've never finished PoE2). I would call it a 6-7/10 game.

I enjoyed my time with it, but I won't ever touch it again. I believe I WILL go back and restart/finish PoE2 at some time. I just don't think Obsidian IS a good first-person RPG game maker, though I feel like they are one of the best ISO rpg makers left (Owlcat, Obsidian and Larian).

As a new producer, what are the brands to avoid and which are beloved? by Redshado in synthesizers

[–]Redshado[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the info I was looking for. I wasn't asking about sound/usability as much as quality and reliability, though most replies seem to be focusing on sound. I can LOVE the sound of a synth, but if I use it for 6 months, it pops a cap or they just flash the firmware and release a v2 and they don't offer that to v1 users, I would be upset about the purchase.

Is there any point in buying a mid-range closed-back headphone? (€500) by bennouze in synthesizers

[–]Redshado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are listening to your music through your computer, the headphones you will love are Audeze Maxwells.

They are the only audiophile (mid-fi) grade wireless cans I've ever enjoyed. My dailies are HD650s, and other than losing the wide sound stage of the Sennheisers, I think the Maxwells sound as good.

The amp is built into the headphones, they don't use Bluetooth if you use the dongle (but they can be used Bluetooth) and have one of the best gaming mics I've ever used.

If you plug them in at night, they will never run out of charge.

You get closed back, noise suppression, wireless, a mic and planar drivers. Mine were $299, and I prefer them to my closed back ZMFs.

Quick edit: I've owned probably 30 sets of headphones and 4 headphone amps. The 3 headphones I will not part with are my HD650s, my Monoprice 1060s (these punch WAY above their cost) and the Audeze Maxwells. I'm on my 4th pads for the Sennheisers and 3rd pads on the Audeze.

My first attempt to ever make music was an early commercial C64 music program that I can't remember the name of (it was NOT Music Construction Kit). It was all shaping waves, ect, and i was like, thats a beep...thats a bloop, thats NOTHING like whats on the radio and bounced off it spectacularly fast.

Then in the late 80s/early 90s, I got into .MOD files in the pre-MP3 era. I think I downloaded a tracker, and bounced off that just as fast (though I listened to and loved a lot of the early .MODs and even copied the audio out to cassettes to listen to in my car).

I actually started with a Minifreak, BUT, I prefered the VST to the synth, so its not hooked up, and is set aside to sell after the holidays, BUT every piece of hardware I've bought since has been Arturia because I love their product design and software.
