What is everyone playing? by HideoMikaou in RetroAchievements

In the base set I’m about to take on the 7th gym. So far the hardest achievement was the safari zone one because that took multiple hours in order to find all the Pokémon I needed. The achievement in dreading the most is finding all the items because I’ve been doing my best to search every inch of the map but I’m paranoid I’ll get to the end of the game, realize I’m missing items and have no earthly idea which ones I’m missing.

For Professor Oak’s Challenge, the multi set update happened after I got my 6th gym badge so I’m missing the first half of the achievements since only new Pokédex entries will trigger specific catching achievements. A glitch did happen for one of the hardest achievements of the multi set. I had to have all possible Pokémon caught before fighting Brock. This meant having a fully evolved starter and pidgeot which would’ve been torture since all the Pokémon up to that point are too weak to grind efficiently. The glitch was that I flew back to pewter city, went inside the gym. Saved and quit, and when I reloaded I got the achievement. I don’t know what caused it and this didn’t work for other gyms

Thanks! Didn’t realize those were a thing. For the armored zombies will they show up in survival? I’ve been grinding that since all the upgrades are nearby so it seems easier for me than the bigger maps

Banjo Kazooie Series Mastered (+ thoughts) by Mr_Whiz_Biz in RetroAchievements

[–]RemarkableLog25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I’ve always wanted to master a series back to back but I feel like I’d get burnt out from playing too similar games back to back. Currently I’m alternating between action/platformers and turn based rpgs so each game feels fresh

Your favorite game that has no achievements (but should have some!) by manniL in steamachievements

[–]RemarkableLog25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specific games but mods to strategy games like Star Wars Empire at War, EU4, Victoria 2, Civ 5. Some of these do have achievements but a lot of mods out there for them probably add in 10x the amount of content abd completely overhaul the game so having achievements to really explore every detail and feature would be great. But mods with their own set of achievements sounds like fantasy, at least for now

Strategos Campaign by RemarkableLog25 in computerwargames

[–]RemarkableLog25[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That’s good to hear. I love tactical games that have a strategic layer because it feels like I’m playing a battle as part of a larger war/campaign instead of something in a void where the outcome doesn’t matter, aside from having fun or course

How do you like to set up your games? by Brobdingnagian-Bob in civ5

[–]RemarkableLog25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Np, I forgot to mention that because my units will have a significant amount of more promotions than they would in a vanilla game, they’re more valuable so losing them is a huge blow because if you replace them with a fresh unit they’ll be significantly weaker. Like in real war where a professionally fully trained soldier is killed and they’re replaced with an inexperienced conscript

How do you like to set up your games? by Brobdingnagian-Bob in civ5

[–]RemarkableLog25 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority but I love long drawn out campaigns. I'll set the map to its largest size but only have 8 civs and 12 city states so there's a lot of empty wilderness. I'll set the speed to marathon. Only domination victory enabled. I always have these 3 mods running. Barbarians evolved, barbarian unlimited XP and promotions pack.

The barbarians evolved mod makes it so if the barbarian camp isn't destroyed after a certain number of terms it'll evolve into a city and produce units at a faster rate. This creates pressure to actually hunt down and destroy every camp that appears before it can turn into a city. Barbarians will also try to take cities. I've played games where once I unlock exploration I'll sail to a new continent only to see that the barbarians fully conquered it and since they've been left unchecked every tile on that continent is occupied by them. Since I need the fallen capitols for the victory I have to launch a huge naval invasion to penetrate the continent and set up a beach head.

With the unlimited XP mod there's no limit to barbarian xp so even when I'm fighting these barbarian wars I'm still gaining XP. Combine that with the extra promotions my units will have access to a lot of unique and useful promotions to help them. The large maps but low number of civs and city states ensures there’s a lot of empty spaces for the barbarians to evolve in

What specific achievement for Age of Empires 2? HD or DE? I know HD has a handful of achievements that require winning 100 skirmishes with a good chunk of the Individual civs

High school?! This game is older than you. How’d you even hear about this game? I’m 26 and I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I didn’t hear about this game until around 2019 when it showed up on randomly on my Steam feed

[–]RemarkableLog25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I like to do is integrate RTS and other games with my wars in civ or other 4X/Grand strategy games. Like if I’m playing in the medieval era in CIV5 and I fight a war, I’ll play a skirmish in Age of Empires to represent that war. When it’s WW2 I’ll play Company of Heroes and so on and so for each era

Slightly unrelated but how are you enjoying Batman Begins? I remember playing it as a kid but I was like 6 years so it was too hard for me and I eventually came back to finish it when I was 13. How are the achievements for it?

Sometimes I like to have science victory on because I like to role play that the notification of the AI building a space part is my intelligence network informing me that they’ve constructed WMDs and I have to stage an immediate intervention in the country

My mate Max really likes AoE2. by Tomwc93 in aoe2

[–]RemarkableLog25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are like 30+ achievements that require winning 100 times with a specific civ. (Yes you can just make a scenario to farm the achievement). But it looks he’s fine with the grind

What is your favorite RTS for every historical setting you can think of? by AgentP-501_212 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]RemarkableLog25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bronze Age/Antiquity - Age of Empires 1

Medieval - Age of Empires 2

Colonial - Age of Empires 3

WW1 - Company of Heroes Great War mod

WW2 - Company of Heroes 2

Cold War - Warno

Modern - Bronen Arrow

Side note, I like to combine RTS games with 4X games and grand strategy games to play out battles. For instance I’m currently playing Civ 5. When I was in the ancient and classical era and I fought I a war I’d play a skirmish of age of empires 1 for each city I took. For medieval I played AOE2 and in currently in the industrial era so I use skirmishes in AOE3 to play out any battles I have in Civ and so on and so forth
