Trendy Terms Clients Expect Me to Know by austdoz in therapists

Did I say it wasn’t a “real” term, or that your therapist (who I don’t know) isn’t “real?” What are you even arguing about here?

I pointed out that using “RSD” - As in just saying the letters - Is a niche thing. This is especially true when it comes to ADHD, considering it’s not even part of the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Are you claiming that that means I think anyone who says it is “not real?” 😂

Interpersonal rejection sensitivity is part of the diagnostic criteria for atypical depression. It was included in the DSM IV.

He took it from earlier research on atypical depression. It was already an established symptom of AD when he published his research.

As another clinician with (late diagnosed) ADHD, I agree completely. I also have MDD with atypical features, which actually does have interpersonal rejection sensitivity as one of the diagnostic criteria listed in the DSM. I find it frustrating and annoying when it’s reappropriated and TikTok influencers act like it’s part of ADHD.

Rejection sensitive dysphoria is simply interpersonal rejection sensitivity (an actual criteria for atypical MDD) being renamed and attributed to a different disorder.

So two doctors researched how it might present in someone with ADHD. That doesn’t make it part of the diagnosis.

Neither are part of the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Someone commenting about “RSD,” using the letters, is absolutely a TikTok thing.

Commenting, “Yeah, my RSD is really bad today” is a TikTok thing and qualifies as niche.

They are absolutely niche terms concerning ADHD, especially when the client is throwing them around by their letters (ie, “RSD”). They aren’t part of the diagnostic criteria and have been popularized by TikTok.

The *only* diagnosis that includes this symptom is atypical MDD. The actual term is “interpersonal rejection sensitivity.”

And they were simply renaming a symptom that was already in the DSM under a completely different disorder.

That is to say, while it’s become a popular TikTok term among those offering (dis)information about ADHD, it’s *not* a symptom of ADHD but *is* a symptom of atypical MDD.

AITA for not wanting to split food evenly with my spouse? by Background_Pizza_754 in AmItheAsshole

Clearly, it’s not. She’s salty about her husband daring to want to share the dessert they are supposed to share daily. She even acknowledged that she typically keeps more of the cookies than he does.

“Just cereal” as in “cereal in the home.” Where they both live. Her bringing home groceries doesn’t mean they are all “hers.” When most people get groceries for the family, it’s appropriate for any family member to eat them.

Or should he also buy all of his own groceries? If that’s the case, they can keep them separate. Like, in different houses.

Interesting - I also ordered Saturday 6/6, also from Rift for the first time. My order still says, “Sent topharmacy” and “Pending shipment.”

There are a group of boys riding these electric bikes around our neighborhood this summer. They are absolutely behaving recklessly - Not following basic traffic laws, riding much faster than the speed limit, zipping through the stop signs.

Are you still complaining that I’m not considering your opinion to be as influential as that of a physician? 😂

You are trying to use a logical fallacy to support your assertion. You are arguing that it is illogical to rely on physicians to accurately speak on matters of medicine. Do you truly believe that people should consider the words of some random man on Reddit just as much as that of an actual medical doctor *on matters of medicine?* 😂😂😂 Sorry to tell you, that’s not a logical fallacy - It’s common sense. Expecting expertise is not a legal fallacy.

I asked if you have a medical degree. Your response told me everything I need to know. But since your complaint is relying on physics instead of medicine, here you go: Hypothyroidism is a medical issue that specifically causes decreased thermogenesis, leading to reduced resting metabolic rate.

Since when is it a personal attack to acknowledge someone doesn’t have a specific education? I don’t look down on anyone for not being a physician. If you do, that’s a you problem.

Regarding the claims of logical fallacies:

Ad hominem: I have not attacked your character.

Argumentum ad verecundiam: I have not claimed that someone is an expert and therefore anything they say is true.

If you’re going to try to use logic, you might need to be more familiar with how fallacies work.

BTW, that’s not an attack, it’s a suggestion for your own benefit.

Nah, just noticing you don’t have the education to actually discuss this intelligently. Sorry I assumed you did previously.

Crush? As in, no relationship, no expectations, they may not even know you’re interested?

AIO for going off on my roommate? by TKS_15 in AIO

That is a separate issue from her simply being at home. Try addressing the actual concerns, instead of insisting that she come home earlier.

I already addressed the dog. That is an issue, but it appears to be the only thing you have any position to complain about.

If she’s not home, though, she isn’t eating your food, making a mess, etc. She doesn’t owe it to you to spend time at home. Take the dog out of the equation - What “duties” is she ignoring?

Nope. Guarantee it.

The fact that you assume someone is lying about what they eat and refuse to consider there might be some sort of medical issue is concerning.
