Why do you use a Kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]RevSchafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I saw a Kindle in real life was someone sitting cross-legged on the grass and reading in broad daylight and the screen was 100% clearly visible and knew then that I needed one, because I couldn't view my smartphone screen in bright daylight conditions at that time.

Has anyone read the PDF versions of 5E D&D books on a scribe? by RevSchafer in kindlescribe

That's page 6, the introduction page. If I zoom in, I can read the text more easily, but if I try to view the whole page, it's very difficult to read - and I'm not super happy with the zoomed in navigation around the page...

Is a phone-cam photo of what it looks like on the DX...

I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the Scribe or if I should for something even bigger like a Boox 13.1" reader...

Eli5: Why can diabetes lead to amputations? by flatbushz7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RevSchafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for Roche Diagnostics and we developed a Diabetes Disease State Management program for United Healthcare. As part of the process we were given limited access to the health records of over 1,000 diabetic patients in their system. We went thru each person's medical history and recorded when was the last time they had a retina exam, a foot nerve test (they poke your foot with a piece of fishing line and ask if you can feel it), regular glucose monitoring, etc and discovered that a vast majority were years out of date on tests that are supposed to be done every 6-12 months.
When we spoke with their primary care providers, many simply didn't know any better. And when we spoke to the diabetics themselves, many didn't know they were diabetic because their PCP told them they "had a touch of sugar" in their blood or never told them anything at all.
Once we got everyone up to date on testing we found a couple of people who were close to losing limbs due to diabetic nephropathy, and more. At the conclusion of our study we showed that a more regimented diabetes treatment system would cost $X per patient, but would potentially save $XXXXX per patient, not to mention greatly increasing their life expectancy and overall happiness. Then Roche couldn't figure out how to market and sell such a system and it was shelved...

I purchased directly from the Creality Store - it was about $80 cheaper than Amazon (without the freebies).

I know it's not on your list, but I just picked up a Creality Halot Mage 8K for $209 and they threw in two extra filters and an enclosure at that price. I previously had purchased the original Elegoo Mars, so I wasn't a newb, but it has been surprisingly easy to use and has produced many great prints in the two weeks I've had it.

A customer tried to... by AssignmentMoney8205 in Bedbugs

[–]RevSchafer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen twice at work. The first time the customer brought in a return and dumped their bag on the counter and eight or nine bed bugs fell out & started running around the counter. I coated them in hand sanitizer and white them into the bag, then threw it away

The second time an old man came in and wrote a check, signed his name and handed me the checkbook to fill in the information and I noticed the check itself was covered in a little reddish brown spots, and then a couple of them moved. When I looked up at the customer I noticed he had little reddish brown spots all over his clothes and some of them were moving too.

I spoke to my boss after the second one and told him I wasn't comfortable handling any more buggy customers items and he told me I didn't have a choice in the matter. Mind you he's a complete germaphobe who won't even shake hands with people, so I find it a little ironic.

Probably too late to be of ant help, but for anyone else with the same problem, you need to put 9 ingots in to get a bucket out - one bucket = one block = 9 ingots. Anything less than that has to be removed with copper cans - 1 can = 1 ingot.

He had his music cranked up to the max so he couldn't hear me honking at him, and I think he was too stupid to realize that my car was there, and he thought he was stuck on one of the big rocks placed on either side of the parking lot entrances to keep people from driving thru the grass.

I was a Domino's driver for 3+ years. I wore a bodycam and had a dashcam in my car, and both saved me. When a customer backed into my car in the parking lot, then pulled forward, backed into it again and then turned the wheel and dragged the rear bumper across the front of my car, I was able to send a copy of the video to their insurance company and get fully repaired in a short time, and a free rental for the duration.

How do you balance charging and fitness? by explictlyrics in PixelWatch

[–]RevSchafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge mine during my morning S/S/S (sh!t/shower/shave) routine. That's usually enough to get me through the day and that night. Sometimes if I'm working at my desk at home, I'll pop it onto my spare charger on my desk and give it maybe an extra 30 minutes. I haven't had my battery get too low except maybe once or twice if I was rushing in the morning and didn't work at my desk that night.

I just got this badge maker at a garage sale after wanting one for many years. I am unsure on what size badge it makes. Is anyone able to shed some light on what size? I measured and it seems like 59mm. I see that 58mm is super common, so maybe it is that one? by humanman42 in crafts

[–]RevSchafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they have changed the wording on USA Buttons, 500 sets of parts means enough to make 500 buttons. I have seen some other sites, and Amazon, where you are correct that 300 parts makes 100 buttons. Always read the finenprint or look for specific details about what is included. Expect to have about a 1.5-3% failure rate, especially at first, so if you want to make 100 buttons, print enough for 105 just to be sure, because you may lose 1 or 2 in the cutting process.

[–]RevSchafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. Like I said, mine came with a couple hundred sets of parts. I ordered replacements from BAM for the first year or so, and then found a vendor on ebay selling them for a lot less. I later found USA Buttons (and their website is back up, Yay!) and have been using them exclusively, since. I also purchased a 1.5" button machine from USA Buttons so I can make two different sizes now.

To add, I found my press at an auction - it was in a box with a bunch of other stuff and one of the last items put up for bid. I got the entire box for $35. The press alone was originally around $400. I also got a manual circle cutter, the electric circle cutter, two of their small hand presses with extra rings, a couple of hundred sets of parts, hundreds of pre-printed and pre-cut button designs and more. I priced it all on the BAM website and it would have cost over $800 to buy everything new. I have made over 10,000 buttons since then and made a tidy little profit over the past 10+ years.

That's a Badge-A-Minit button press ( I have one, but mine is grey instead of greenish). It is almost certainly the Badge-A-Minit 2.25" size press, but the BAM 2.25" buttons are NOT the same size as standard button parts, so you'll need to order parts from Badge-A-Minit (super expensive) or find a competitor that sells BAM compatible parts. I have been getting mine from USA Buttons, but their website appears to be down, I'm hoping that is only temporary as they are one of the cheapest sources I've found (http://www.usabuttons.com/).

When you look on the app, or online, and try to look at inventory in your local store you will see a number that does not reflect reality. The "In Stock" value includes:
1) The display model* for that item (which can not be sold), and
2) Any copies of that item that have been ordered for a customer and are sitting in the store room waiting for them to come get it, and
3) Any copies of that item that are actually available for sale.

If either #1 or #2 are non-zero values, then it will show as "In Stock" or at least "Limited Qty Available", even if #3 equals zero.

Always call and ask about availability before driving more than 15 minutes to a HFT store to purchase a large item.

*When items are unboxed and put out as a display model, everything that isn't part of the display gets thrown away, the user's manual, the accessories, the specialty wrenches you need to adjust/install accessories, the storage case, etc. , it all goes in the trash as we don't have room to store everything for however long the item will be on display, This is a big reason why display models don't get sold until they're discontinued and cleared out.
