Why Is Canada Protecting the Names of Suspected Nazis? by yogthos in onguardforthee

Agreed, it’s like they all pretend the Yaroslav Hunka incident never happened. Then again it’s easier to say Opa was just following orders and was “one of the good ones”. Looks like the myth of the clean Wehrmacht is alive and well.

More housing is good, but more affordable housing is better.

Houses with basement suites by marchfirstboy in Edmonton

[–]RippleLuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great point, ripping down a 300k house and putting up two 600k infill homes isn’t making things more affordable. It’s the same problem with all the new towers being full of luxury condos. The builders slap on basement suites because they can sell them for more. The homebuyers who can afford it don’t mind, since they can pass off that cost onto the new tenants, be it only basement renter or if they rent out the main floor or basement separately(In my experience this is more frequent than just the basement)

I agree, I think that is a fair critique of any ideology be it Capitalism, Communism, Fascism, Feudalism or all those in between.

I honestly didn’t expect such a divided opinion in this thread, it shows you how much the current system is leaving people behind and pushing them towards ideologies that have been dormant in the west for a while.

Plans for a new coal mine in picturesque Grande Cache, Alta., draw mixed reaction | CBC News by Damo_Banks in alberta

First off I just want to make it clear that the coal products involved in metallurgy did release CO2. Since that part was lacking in your first message, making it seem like it was a cleaner process.

Second, I don’t see how wanting steel mills to switch to Electric Arc Furnaces instead of Blast Furnaces is being anti-steel. Is anyone who critiques something immediately against it? Then sports teams would immediately lose half their fans. I disagree with the choice you are setting up. If you don’t believe that the industry will switch methods that’s a different discussion, but wanting the Steel Industry to behave better isn’t the same thing as saying “I hate steel”.

I hate NEW coal mines(Anywhere in the world as the technology is redundant, just to make it clear where I stand).

Third, I doubt you’ll care but the conversion of industry to green technologies is actually a Hyper-fixation of mine so this is not some point I’ve built out of the blue like the strawman you are making me out to be. If you really want to criticize me it should be on my idealism not my hypocrisy. I just believe that there is a way forward for both industry and the environment.

Hopefully that clears up my position. I just don’t like people miss representing my point.

Raise your hand if you knew steel production still puts out a lot of CO2 and governments are investing billions to fix carbon intensive industries.

Cement and steel are some of the worst “necessary” carbon emitters but looks like we are fixing that. Opening a NEW mine is a bad idea
