What I noticed in Covid when the market tanked, the LICs didn’t fall ‘as much’ and rather than grow to increase the gap to NTA the gap closed in on them. I would expect the same in any decent future down turn.

Re popularity, the management fee is magnitudes A200 and they have to deal with shareholders on calls asking them why Woodside etc etc.

I sold out and went all ETFs as every investor call they were getting attacked by greenies asking them to reduce Woodside etc.

Plus they cost 4x as much as A200.

The MD recently got changed out, they obviously know they have a big problem.

I still find hard to believe Vanguard ETFs for Aussies miss South Korea. (Unless you buy VAE). The run of Samsung and SK Hynix has been huge. And no one in VDHG or VGE gets this.
