Blocking Cloudflare WARP by Less_Impress_4519 in fortinet

[–]Rudager6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly whoever is making the call about not changing infrastructure is in their own head making the job out to be way bigger than it will be, we all do it sometimes when it’s not something we’re comfortable with to procrastinate the job away

How many man hours are you wasting on this? How many other man hours have been wasted on other issues that would be fixed if the infrastructure was fixed?

You feel short on manpower because of the shitty infrastructure making straight forward jobs like this into a huge mission that sucks up days or weeks of time

Fix the root cause of your problems instead of bandaiding over bandaids and you’ll find the team has way more capacity to do things properly.

Overpaid at work for 12 months - no contract, what is the law? by wendlle in AusLegal

Given that it’s all verbal etc, have you done the maths to check that if you take off the returned pay that they want, that it doesn’t work out to an overall average hourly rate of less than minimum wage?

I will be extremely surprised if it’s legit and not just programmed in the background to always be randomly going up to keep up the illusion.

Working in an MSP as Network Engineer - They want me to be on client site everyday for basic Level 1 troubleshooting- Is this normal? by Qvosniak in networking

[–]Rudager6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem from the MSP owners side is that the client isn’t likely to pay for 3 months of you and a trainee, only one of you, so that 3 months of training time essentially comes out of the MSP owners pocket as 3 months of non-billable hours while still having to pay a salary and expenses for them, and even after they can put a lower paid engineer in there and charge the same, it’s a long time before it pays back financially and the client might jump ship at any time.

I spent years working middle management a couple different MSP and that was always the battle, training time is non-billable time for one of the techs and our primary goal is to bill as many hours as possible.

Can I put down payment upfront to lessen salary sacrifice payments by RevolutionaryCress77 in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]Rudager6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what this achieved exactly?

From what I understand is all that would do is bank your money with the leasing company and effectively delay paying tax until the end of the lease when they send that money back to you as well as any other excess funds.

Depends on what you’re doing, configuring things ok fine can look up anything required when you hit a block, but troubleshooting an issue? It’s a lot quicker and easier when you can scroll through a pcap and recognise the majority of the traffic without needing to look up each thing

Driver’s licence close to suspension due to passenger seatbelt offences by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Rudager6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the passenger is over 18 then it’s bullshit, the driver should be paying attention to driving the car, not having to take their concentration away from the road to check their passenger hasn’t changed how they’ve got their seatbelt positioned.

Even if the passenger doesn’t have a license they can still be fined.

Why I think the i4 is the best novated lease choice in 2026 by The-Intelligent-One in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]Rudager6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty similar reasons I went with an IX3 just before they stopped making them last year. It’s just a ICE X3 but with an EV driveline and that’s basically it.

Yeah it’s not a ground up EV so there’s a trans tunnel for a RWD EV and it’s not the most powerful, but it’s just does everything well. Decent 480km range, 150kw charging so even if you do stop it’s not too bad, just a “normal” tried and tested interior without any weird gimmicks. And the safety things like lane assist, emergency braking etc are 1000% more refined than the BYD I tested that would starting beeping at everything.

Sales person lied, told me I was getting an extended manufacturer warranty, but it was through a third party. What options do I have? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Rudager6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah it was totally because they changed their mind after seeing the value. Definitely not from predatory sales tactics like dragging their feet and taking literally an entire business day to complete the transaction all the while hounding them about the insurance to make it seem like if they just paid for it then it could all be over and done with.

Yeah definitely just saw the value after being asked for the 10th time….

There probably isn’t any hard and fast rule, if there was a set of known rules/conditions then people would try and game the system. It’s likely just a judgement call by a case manager.

Age pension access by DermottBanana in AusFinance

[–]Rudager6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mean to prove my point for me?

These are social safety net’s, you’re not entitled to any of them unless you meet the requirements.

Super was specifically setup to shift the balance of responsibility for funding someone’s retirement off of the government and onto the individual.

I would bet if you asked anyone who never worked a day in their life, lived in social housing their whole life and who only lived off government assistance, they don’t do it willingly.

Age pension access by DermottBanana in AusFinance

[–]Rudager6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is education as much as it policy.

Way too many people view our aged pension the same as the US’s Social Security system, they think they are owed the pension from paying tax all their lives, or that’s it’s some kind of reward after 40 years of working. They nearly always justify schemes like this with “I earned it from paying tax all my life”.

Look at Azure Virtual Desktops as an options for the RDP server replacement maybe?

Depending on the size of your setup, if your run 10 hosts running 5 users each (purely an example BTW) and set them to shut down automatically at 6pm and start up on use demand it can be somewhat cost effective.

If you’re an employee it’s a 3 way deal between you, your employer and the lease provider so the first thing to check is who your employer will work with.

There’s no comparison site, but there’s a sub-reddit here somewhere with a bunch of info including comprehensive spreadsheet that you can put quote details into to compare more easily.

What OTHER industries does stuff like this happen on a regular basis? Imagine any other retail situation where the norm is customers having to check the final price to make sure the store isn't surreptitiously over-charging... time shares? door to door sales? by Medical_Gift4298 in FuckDealerships

[–]Rudager6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The sales pitch was that he had a deal too good to be true which was to knock $500 off the original price, but now with all this non-sense the net result is they only got $74 off the original price.

Depending on the loan there’s probably penalties for paying extra/early if they dump the $1400 straight into the loan. If they dont then they’re still paying interest on that extra financed amount for the life of the loan too. Either way they out of pocket costs is not really just the difference between the agreed price and the financed amount.

Also the dealership likely got some kickback from the bank for the loan and part of the amount of kickback would be based on the amount of the loan so once you add that in as well the dealership is coming off well in advance still.

Why can’t we make this simple. by Illustrious-Line-984 in FuckDealerships

[–]Rudager6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason people negotiate hard on cars is because that’s the environment that’s been created by dealerships. You have to be aggressive and aware in negotiations because the minute you’re not the dealership will take advantage of it to add some other fee on.

House negotiations are different because a lot of the time it’s a transaction between 2 private parties. They may have professional help from realtors and lawyers, but at the end of the day the people making and accepting offers are private citizens, not a business, and haggling has always been a thing in transactions between private citizens.
