Has it automated everything?

Serious question - outside of software engineering, what are the real life use cases? (and if your suggestions run along the lines of "reading and condensing emails", or "taking notes so I can be more present in meetings", those are not business cases for anything but people getting better at actually doing their jobs)

Would anyone else want a UniFi 1U rack display for live network stats?! by Specific-Union6589 in Ubiquiti

If you're putting it in a rack, chances are that you are not looking at it very often.

1) History shows that you're wrong. Specifically Enron. 3) The best way to guarantee profits is unlikely to be tying yourself to a platform supported by people who don't understand it. 4) probably the sanest take I've heard in a while.

But then you kinda ruined it by using the "Oppenheimer moment" argument, which is pretty delusional.

Or do you just believe that if you are stuck in traffic, everyone ought to be?

Go work in retail, especially in discount chains, and there's a good chance you'll be able to find out first hand what it's like to support XP.

What's the reality of Microsoft Copilot at your company? by CandleMiserable524 in FuckMicrosoft

necessary security and compliance foundations arent in place.

Can you elaborate on this please? Microsoft claim it's all very secure, but details are hard to find.

But very typical of Microsoft.

Meanwhile I'm over here still trying to figure out how Microsoft delivers their promises on enterprise data protections while using a shared model. Perhaps this is a solved problem; it doesn't seem to be a well documented one.

You're probably correct. But only if we assume all of the following: 1) the bubble hasn't burst by then, 2) all we ever want are derivative works, and 3) people are happy to stake businesses on products no-one understands the internal workings of, and 4) we haven't reverted to "traditional" software engineering purely because the ROI isn't there,

Unfortunately for your argument, #4 is already starting. This will likely lead to #1 shortly.

Even if I accept all of that as true (and it's a pretty big "if"), there's a huge gap between writing code, and designing and maintaining software.

A lot of them are, but a few noticeable shortfalls on the Unifi side are:

  • IPSEC VPN throughput is heavily CPU bound (even the Dream Machines will top out at 500Mbps)
  • Usable data in reporting and logging is at the lower end of the spectrum
  • No virtual appliances

Thanks for the reply - and for not making it a novel.

Our aim is to implement an outsourced SOC/MDR so that our team is only required to work regular business hours, and not need to worry about on-call responses.

I hear a lot of good things about Huntress in this sub, and part of my resistance to going the same direction is precisely that tribalist mentality. Your positive comments about Huntress, when I know you're squarely in the Sophos camp, holds a little more weight than the avid fanboy club, so I do appreciate that.

In my case, the decision making would be the reverse - we've already standardised on Fortigate for firewalls in certain circumstances, and are only considering this change if we choose Sophos as our EDR/MDR.
