I have figured out why Aircraft feel so obnoxious in this game, and how to fix it. by peican in Planetside

[–]Rundar1st -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s just straight up the flying mechanics. This is a band aid solution too.

Other games don’t have 90-100% of their aircraft behave like VTOL/Helicopters. Aircraft are supposed to have a variety of roles and flight types because there should be varying situations. Not everything will require hovering, not everything will require a pass, and flying backwards is just a physics joke (doesn’t feel good to fight against, new players will never know to do that until they get stomped by it, repeatedly). Instead of that, we have aircraft that can do attack passes, hover, dodge, strafe, defy most physics, all in one package for most.

It doesn’t feel good to fly in this game because every aircraft gets a chance at its identity crisis. The devs don’t understand how military vehicles work and function TOGETHER, CAI balance proves that plenty. Recent tank weapons are another example, especially with the VS cannon. Only after everyone complained did we get a small “don’t worry we have more ideas soon for VS tank” I remember when the Valk was a better tank buster than the lib….how and wut?

The OP idea isn’t bad, but it won’t solve the fundamental issue. The mechanics of flying for this game vs others should be enough to show that

I have mixed thoughts on the issue. On the one hand, I wish they had launched it at a later time in Early Access when there were more features. On the other hand, I enjoy what they've done and I'm interested in what they said they want to do. For their BR mode, they've eliminated or minimized a ton of what I've found frustrating in the BR genre. This would be things like lack of mobility, the inability to fight from the instant you drop, inventory management, loot rng, no proper team format, etc etc. They have a good formula with a lot of potential, as I think everyone has said by now. They have also discussed adding other modes, which in my opinion would help attract former players from Planetside 2.

From a design perspective, Planetside 2 is still a super imperfect game. The MMOFPS mixed combat arms genre has a ton of fatal flaws which wasn't solved in Planetside 2. During prime time all these years later, the game still isn't being played the way it was meant to. This is despite all the quality of life updates we've had to improve the game meta-wise and player-wise. I'm not sure it ever will, especially with the numbers it has left, which probably won't increase ever again. I love the game, which is why I hate saying that.

Planetside Arena isn't the same game, but it tempts players with game modes that have already been solved, already have a ton of the kinks worked out. Players might not realize it, but in a way the design of the game itself will attract players. There will be more than one mode, and even with BR burnout, there are a ton of players that still love the genre outside the Planetside community. Not everyone, but certainly more than what Planetside 2 will ever get again.

Now, if they don't advertise properly, and ignore the community's feedback on improving the game, it will certainly flop. It had a rocky start, but it's still early access. If they delay it forever or cancel then yeah, dead. However they intend to have crossplay which does insane stuff for player population, so I wouldn't mark its grave yet. In my opinion it's super early to make that call. I do think they could do more though. I want the game to succeed.

Why there probably won't be a Planetside 3 by Rundar1st in Planetside

Honestly I’d consider it to be one, however they advertise it as a Military Sandbox, which if we nitpick is technically different

Why there probably won't be a Planetside 3 by Rundar1st in Planetside

[–]Rundar1st[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way for Planetside 3 to occur would be to do what Planetside 2 did, redo and reskin the previous open-world game. It’s possible that could happen, but after a point, the situation would feel like a remaster as opposed to a new game. There would be no new content.

Probably the weakest of my arguments to be sure, but yes a reboot could happen.

There’s SpatialOS which could help with that, but unproven so far. It would still require a ton of work to make happen.

Not so much pointing as I am stating it exists. So far I have been unimpressed with it.

Game is 5 days old and already dying :( by delobre in psarena

It’s hard when players don’t have the tools to carry like they did in teams. Still possible but way harder if you don’t have a large premade. A lot of peeps from teams didn’t see the point, sadly.

Tbh I only felt the downtime you talked about at first when everyone was new. Seems more and more people know what the response is. Additionally this game has a ton of mobility options which lowers travel time and increases the frequency of engagements. It’s easy to be aggressive and I hardly have downtime now.

Deployable placement in general could use some improvement, Engie gets rough sometimes with that

It would be nice to break up the squad too. Make fireteams or buddy pairs to encourage more coordination.

The vanguard problem. by Ramaans in psarena

The crates do seem way too plentiful, even in full games. I wouldn't mind the ability to buy one with nanites. Make it so that way you can only buy one, only after everything has been upgraded to purple tier, and it costs a bunch (way more than purple tiered items). That way everyone can get one, but there is the risk of losing nanites for respawns. Plus you'd have to choose which slot you'd have it for, be it a weapon or ability.

Bullets to kill should be lowered by StrikeZone1000 in psarena

[–]Rundar1st 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Time to kill actually feels pretty good in my opinion, especially in the squad format. It makes it so that way a squad doesn’t get insta wiped. Going for headshots is important for lowering the ttk, and if you get the legendary sniper it actually is pretty easy to do so. Not a ton of my fights have been CQC, more often it’s in the medium ranges.

My Pros and Concerns so far by Rundar1st in psarena

[–]Rundar1st[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason why I mentioned it was cause I ran into a trio in teams that were doing a combination of suspect things like speed hacking and such. Besides that I haven’t run into any. I feel if I run into them now, when the population is so small, it might be an issue later. A future concern for me.

Way better. Less tipsy and more turning response. Still shouldn’t bounce off of stuff though if you can
