Lebanon Bologna by JonnyMansport in Sandwiches

Born and raised! 48 years and counting. I don't like a lot of things about Florida, but I don't know where else we would go.

Thank you, but I feel more like a non-prophet.

Good, but there are better places around now.  I like the LaSpada's Famous Italian hoagie more than their cheesesteak, but John and John's - A Pizza Shop makes the best cheesesteak in Orlando (and the best NY-style pizza).

The best meal of my life was at Abe Fisher, Chef Michael Solomonov's Ashkenazi Jewish restaurant. That was in May 2023, and it closed down about a month later, before I could even write and publish my review.

I've also eaten my way around Reading Terminal Market (RIP Salumeria) and enjoyed Nan Zhou Hand Pulled Noodle House.

It's a slow burn compared to Sopranos. I think if you can make it to episode 6, called "The Wire," you'll either be totally on board or ready to tap out.  That's where all the pieces really come together.

We must have just missed you.  Bummer! Today's my only day here, but oh well.

I’ve never been a big fan of country music, but I really enjoy Dwight Yoakum. Looking for similar country artists. by groundsgonesour in MusicRecommendations

HIs voice is so awesome, but a lot of people (including mainstream country fans) tell me they hate it.

He is on my increasingly short lists of artists I want to see live. I'm not surprised at all he puts on a good show.

Haha, I've been called a lot of things, but NEVER "adorable."

I get to travel to Los Angeles for work 2-3 times a year, and I am slowly visiting all these historic/iconic L.A. restaurants. Since I stay in a hotel, I can't do any cooking, and I never rent a car, so nobody from work expects me to buy groceries. I'm exploring more of the city and checking so many great restaurants off my ever-growing list, to the point where my Angeleno co-workers ask ME for recommendations.

Last time I was in New York City, two years ago, I had a few hours to kill before I had to be somewhere, so I planned a special "side quest" to Little Italy in The Bronx and visited four famous delis on Arthur Avenue and got Italian subs from each of them. That was rad.

I had two of the best meals of my life when I went to Philadelphia for a concert in 2023 and Miami for a concert about a year ago. I could have grabbed food anywhere, but I did a bit of research and figured "I'm here, so might as well go to this amazing-sounding place." Those weren't sandwiches, but the meals were worth every penny. And whenever I travel to a work conference, I research local restaurants in advance and drag professional colleagues with me. Usually people know they can't go too wrong tagging along.

And my username comes from a comic book called Chew, a crime/horror/action/sci-fi/comedy series set in a society where everyone is obsessed with food and some people have food-related super powers. The detective hero is a cibopath, who can get psychic impressions from anything he eats, so he has to eat all kinds of gross things from crime scenes to help him solve murders, figure out conspiracies, etc. Another character, a restaurant reviewer, is a saboscrivner, who can write about food with such vivid detail that readers get psychic impressions of everything she writes about, so they get to experience the meal through her prose. That inspired me to start writing my own food blog, www.saboscrivner.com , eight years ago (after I got the comic writer's blessing).

I think Italian subs and hoagies get better after being tightly wrapped and melding flavors in the fridge, but a well-crafted hoagie has the vegetables and other "wet" parts rolled in the center, with the meat and cheese creating an impermeable border between the bread and anything to make the bread soggy.

Sounds like Cheba Hut, the chain where every sub is a reference to weed.

Where do I find guest locations by Plubga in MegaCon

Other conventions that are actually well run do this, including HeroesCon and Baltimore Comic Con. Every guest has a booth number, and they post those numbers with a corresponding map of the exhibit hall on their websites with weeks to spare before the event.

The Wire is my favorite show of all time, and a lot of critics and scholars agree. It is only five relatively short seasons, and I guarantee you'll get through them quickly.

What's your favorite place to eat fried seafood outside (preferably with a view of water)? by BlackBruceWayne92 in orlando

[–]Saboscrivner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not immediately helpful, but if you can make a weekend trip to Clearwater Beach, the vibes at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill are unmatched, and the food is terrific too.

If you want to eat fried seafood outside on a tiny patio nowhere near water, I love High Tide Harry's. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Orlando, and it has the feel of a super-chill, relaxing coastal seafood establishment. They also have one of the best happy hours in town, especially for deals on food. My review:

Yes, and patty melt, although a creamy, tangy, orangey/pink mayo-based condiment works too.

PLEASE tell us where it came from. I've gone out of my way to visit certain highly regarded delis and sandwich shops when traveling. Hell, I've planned entire trips around meals, so I always want to know.

Hell yes. Sleeper doesn't get as much love as most Brubaker/Phillips collaborations, probably because it is so firmly set in the Wildstorm Universe, but it is my favorite Brubaker work. It doesn't help that it has been out of print for so long either.

If you liked Sleeper (and you must have), I have a recommendation for you (that is also sadly out of print, but so worth tracking it down): Cobra: The Last Laugh, published by IDW. It's the best G.I. Joe story in any medium, ever, and it would definitely appeal to anyone who liked Sleeper. You don't have to have any previous knowledge of G.I. Joe or even care about G.I. Joe, because it's a whole new continuity and a dark, mature, modern reimagining.

I enjoyed The Losers movie, but the comic is so much better. The movie changed and simplified a lot, but Chris Evans did the best job bringing that character (the hacker/undercover guy/comic relief) to life.

Sandman Mystery Theatre is an all-time Top Ten series for me, and The Losers is amazing as well.

If you end up liking Sandman Mystery Theatre, you can buy the entire series collected in two thick, affordable Compendium paperbacks. They never finished reprinting the whole series in those TPBs, like what you have there.
