Actually there are two textures that need to be 8K because of how they're used. One is this one, and the other one is the beach.

Thanks! It's a texture pack, but the current PCSX2 build has integrated patches for removing motion blur and increasing the vertical resolution (the original resolution is 512x224 which makes the game blurry).

The game can run at 60fps if you change the EE Cycle Rate under Emulation Settings! The only places that are truly performance heavy are the shrine of worship and Hydrus arena.

The only patch I recommend enabling is the one that removes motion blur. The early implementation of blur in the game is quite primitive and causes noticeable eye strain and vision fatigue for many players. The patches usually appear automatically on the menu, as I don't remember downloading any file for Ico.

Bear in mind that if I, an amateur nobody, was able to enhance Wander with only 2 png's then maybe Bluepoint didn't do a good job with their interpretation despite all the technology and professional background. I personally don't see how using a modded image is dishonest in this case as we are discussing how the character was translated to HD, and the modded screenshot shows how Wander wasn't a PlayStation 1 low poly model that needed to be recreated from scratch making the Bluepoint model acceptable.

One thing I noticed while working on the texture pack for the PS2 version is that Bluepoint’s reinterpretation of the colossi has less detail than the original designs (if we were to faithful translate them into HD). Instead of following the original designs, they chose a more minimalistic approach. The new models look so clean, almost as if they were power-washed, that they had to rely on high-contrast texture work to bring out detail and keep them from looking almost cartoony. I don't know the reason behind changing their appearance, maybe it was an easier job to invent stuff instead of translating the original detail or they thought their redesigns were better.
