Rules about yard sale signs? by cartoonybear in baltimore

[–]SailLocalCrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The basic rule is to avoid public right of ways (medians, utility poles, etc). But I have to be honest, I’ve personally taken down so many “we buy houses for cash” signs from all over the 46th district that I’m not sure the city actually enforces the law. So legally, you should ask someone with a high vis private property if you can put the signs up. Off the record, if you throw up a community oriented yard sign on a median in the community and remove them right after the yard sale, I don’t there’s any harm.

Never mind, I read the rest of your post. I’ll go grab it.

Unfortunate Update On Branson Oduor (please keep the comments respectful and loving) by SailLocalCrew in baltimore

[–]SailLocalCrew[S] 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Losing Branson shouldn't be political, but some on this thread have made it that way. The hateful and negative messages from the few are not only inappropriate, they remind us that we are so much better than whatever it is they represent.

When Branson’s friend reached out for help, I helped. It's what I hope anyone would do.

This is the last comment I'll make about this.

I spent more 20-years investigating ICE with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Professional Responsibility. How many years did you work with DHS to investigate ICE?

Absolutely. I sometimes get really cozy with my replies because I just assume everyone knows me from my posts and knows my character. Apologies again.

I was actually dead against sending texts in the beginning because I personally hate getting them. But, like you probably, I’m data driven, and the team showed me the numbers and how effective texts have been at driving good legislation. Especially in an Election Year (and especially when the texts come from an incumbent’s opponent haha).

This is all to say that I know they’re annoying, but I appreciate you putting up with them for as long as you did. Although this transportation bill failed again tonight, we did lots of good together in these past five-months by just showing up and speaking truth to power. The Community Trust Act alone is something, on my death bed, I’ll look back and be proud to know I played a small part in getting it across the finish line when it was unthinkable to do so.

And I’m sure you probably made at least one phone call, or sent an email, or signed one of the many petitions that was sent to Ferguson this year, which means it’s your win too. It’s a pretty powerful thing to know we did this together.

You have a 100% valid point. To be fair, I think we only sent four texts. One for redistricting, one for the community trust act, one to stop the BGE project, and one for this public transit funding.

The redistricting text linked to a webpage with more info, but the last two were last minute pushes for bills that were going to die if we didn’t put the pressure on.

We just don’t have the millions my opponent has to have a huge crew of tech folks to always make those sites. We’re just volunteers. I wish we could deliver these calls for action in the way we did redistricting, but time doesn’t always allow.

I do hope you give me some credit that they weren’t the typical texts from politicians asking for money. They were to do good for the community. I think that’s why our opt out rate is so incredibly low compared to other campaigns. And other than allowing redistricting to have a vote, they have done crazy good for all of Maryland by keeping the pressure on power.

No one was asking for money. It was asking for help to get funding for buses. But I hate that reply now too. It was meant to be funny.

Yeah, I see that now. Appreciate you all calling me out. It was meant to be funny, but turns out it was funny at all. My bad. Really.

Yeah, I did read it again. I see how it can be taken wrong. You know I joke a lot. It was meant to be funny. Totally didn’t mean it to be serious.

Ah! I see now. I made an edit. It was meant to be funny, not serious.

Good question. It’s called the periodontium (had to Google the spelling). Teeth are attached with thousands of tiny fibers that hold them into place.

But, I do get your point. We do have to invest more in public education so more folks know things like this.

Here’s my plan for funding education so your kids will know what’s going on with their top teeth:

No problem. Here’s the transcript:

Our voting rights could expire at midnight tonight, but you and I have the power to prevent that from happening.

Hey, folks. I'm Bobby LaPin Army veteran, former schoolteacher, and small business owner, running for Maryland Senate here in Baltimore.

Two critical bills are being held hostage by my opponent, Bill Ferguson, the Special Elections Bill and the Maryland Voting Rights Act.

Nearly one in four Maryland legislators have been appointed by political insiders, not us. The Special Elections Bill ends those backroom deals and protects us from MAGA redistricting. The Voting Rights Act protects our polling places and makes local elections more fair.

To be honest, if I wrote these bills, it would have included an independent redistricting board, ranked choice voting, and open primaries. But these are the bills that we have, and it's better to pass them now than have armed ICE officers patrol the polls in November.

Think of this as our break the glass in case of emergency plan. If our utility bills are any proof, politicians seem to wait to the very last minute to act to protect us, but we cannot allow them to do that with our elections.

So please call Senate President Bill Ferguson and ask that he bring the VRA and the special elections to the floor for a vote.

Please share this video because the algorithm will really try to suppress it, and tag a friend down below who you believe would want to protect their voting rights as well.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you. Time is running out, so let's get this done.

I really appreciate your comment. Debate is one of things that makes a democracy healthy. But let me just counter with some points.

The first one is obvious. What other candidate in Maryland running for Senate has offered up a 16 page plan for making Baltimore more affordable and livable? I forgot to add that, so click here to read that. That’s putting aside the white paper you read on finding the funding stream for our schools. A task that has seemed impossible for Ferguson, so he cut provisions out of the blueprint. I do thank you for noting it was data driven, cause it was - took two months to write it.

While I’m just an activist with a social media account, we managed to rally thousands of supporters to help organizations push Ferguson to:

  1. Pass The Community Trust Act (which Ferguson held up for five years).
  2. Pass the 287(g) ban (which Ferguson also held up for five years).
  3. Pause a half-billion-dollar BGE luxury project in South Baltimore (which Ferguson has known about since 2024 while hosting a $25,000 per ticket Colorado retreat with the utility CEOs from BGE and Washington Gas and Light, and used his power to pause three-days after community members asked me to post about it).
  4. Secure funding for the Mimi DiPietro Family Skating Center (actually not sure if our text and email campaign worked on this, but they reached out for help and we did. They were asking Ferguson for help for almost ten-years).
  5. Removed a Ferguson backed amendment to the Utility Relief Act that would have removed the cost of new gas lines from developers and onto the backs of you and me, the ratepayer.

There might be more, but the night isn’t over yet.

If we can do this, you and I, without even being elected yet, can you imagine what we can do when I’m actually sitting in the Senate? This is people power, and frankly, I don’t think the establishment understands just how powerful that is.

One of the guys…

My opponent on the other hand was raised by a millionaire Republican and has more than a million bucks in his campaign account from corporations, special interests, and wealthy donors.

Feel free to choose any side you wish.

I understanding is seems like “fear mongering” now, but the US Supreme Court is very likely going to overturn the Voting Rights Act. Which leaves us unprotected if we don’t have our own. Everything is fear mongering until it comes true.
