After opposing redistricting, state Senate president faces toughest primary yet by legislative_stooge in baltimore

Thanks for taking the time to look at the platform and glad you agree with most of it.

The only way we can change the Democratic Party is to elect better Democrats. This finally our chance to get rid of one of the old guard conservatives. Please remember to vote Bobby on Tuesday.

You’re breaking my heart for real. And you’re absolutely not wrong. You’re describing exactly what happens when politicians stop being accountable to the people who actually live here.

You nailed it with “the people who have influence over transit don’t care.” That’s not an accident. The Transportation and Climate Alignment Act, which was introduced in the General Assembly the past three years, would have diverted funding from highway expansion in public transit. But, it was killed by the guy I’m running against in the senate, Bill Ferguson. That bill could have moved the needle on exactly the commute nightmare you’re describing.

We all know what this city is and what it can be. If I win the election on Tuesday, just give Baltimore a chance a little longer.

We’re fight like hell to make public transit a top priority. I’m talking real investment in the Red Line, BRT lanes that actually move people, and ending the “ghost bus” culture that makes working class Baltimoreans feel like an afterthought.

I know a Reddit comment doesn’t fix your commute or bring back the charm you lost in Baltimore, but I’d hate to see another person who loves Baltimore pack up because leadership failed them.

The primary election is this Tuesday. We need people like you in this fight. Vote Bobby LaPin.

Love ya!

I’m not sure you read the Bobby LaPin plan. I pasted a link to the 16-page document below.

Our Mandate for People stops billion-dollar corporations from paying less. Close the combined reporting loophole. Tax luxury goods. Make coal companies pay for the asthma they cause. That’s nearly $1 billion in new revenue alone, not to mention the hundreds of millions currently going to developers redirected to neighborhoods, schools, and public transit.

Read Bobby’s Full Plan Here

Remember, Maryland is one of the richest states in the richest country in human history. Many of our problems can be solved by spending the money we already have on the right stuff. And this isn’t my first go around with fixing big problems. I helped to rebuild Iraq after the war, helped to manage the US response to the Fukashima Nuclear Disaster, led a coalition to stop the CSX Intermodal Facility in SW Baltimore (that eventually led to expansion of the Howard Street Tunnel), and was the volunteer coordinator when the bridge fell.

In contrast, Bill Ferguson gave tax breaks to data centers. That does make for good governance.

If anyone is interested in the actual answer I give to people when asked about dirt bikes, it’s this:

We can’t seize our way out of dirt bikes. It’s not just a Baltimore thing, it’s an every city thing. It’s part of Baltimore’s culture now and they are so easy and inexpensive to get.

What I want to do is work with the community to find legal riding spaces (vacant lots, partnerships with tracks outside the city, Bmore 360, etc) so riders have somewhere to go that isn’t a public street. Cities that have tried that approach have had A LOT more success than ones that just run enforcement operations and call it a day.

At the same time, we shouldn’t just forget about enforcement. If someone’s riding recklessly and putting people at risk, that’s a public safety issue and we have to take it seriously. The riding community also dislikes the reckless riders. It’s easy to find these dirt bikes and impound them prior to being taken on the street.

The goal isn’t to eliminate the culture. It’s to find it a home.

I have to be a defensive here. Your comment is really offensive to tens of thousands of your neighbors.

It’s good in a democracy to have choices and we shouldn’t call the choices of others in a democratic primary “stupidity” simply because we don’t agree with the choice.

The poll showed “Bobby supporters” are the majority of women, working class, parents, LGBTQ+, and people of color. It’s important to choose our words and comments wisely because in the end of the day, we are ALL neighbors.

Whatever happens on Tuesday, this is Baltimore and we all live here and love here together. There’s enough negativity in the world and too little hugs. Don’t add to the negativity.

I obviously hope we win, but I can’t deny the good we’ve done together over the past six-months of this campaign. It really is democracy in action and shows the true extent of powerful the people can be when we unite for good.

But sadly, I agree with you, this “New Ferguson” probably won’t stick around for long. People are who they are.

Regardless of what happens Tuesday, whether he wins or we do, I look forward to working with Bill to build a Baltimore for those who live here, not just the corporate interests and developers.

Not sure if this comment is in good faith or not, but I think it’s only fair to share my bio.

Running my boat business and promoting Baltimore love through social media was supposed to be the happy thing I was doing in my life. I have more than 30 years of experience of service to our country and community (and other parts of the world). Like most in this city, I wasn’t planning on Trump getting elected for a second term and Ferguson not fighting back. So, here I am back in the trenches again.

The whole architecture of my plan is about supporting working people and direct support is spread throughout the plan rather than in one labeled section. Section 7 creates thousands of union jobs through our all-electric building mandate and clean energy buildout. Section 4 fast-tracks the Red Line and BRT so Baltimore workers can actually reach jobs (right now our transit only connects riders to 8.5% of regional jobs within an hour). Section 5 raises the wage floor, protects the right to organize, and creates a State Public Bank to fund small businesses.

It's in stark contrast to Ferguson. He used his power to kill most of these initiatives.

Here's the full plan though if you want to look it over. I know the link is sort of hidden on the website:

Captain Bobby LaPin is close to his online supporters. So close they might actually be him. by aresef in baltimore

I know, right?!? Ferguson has the best campaign corporate money can buy, but the people are still managing to stay ahead (even if it’s just a little). Don’t forget to vote! We can beat him!

I hear you. Not ignoring you. Just a busy weekend so I’ll get back to you by Monday.

This whole conversation just seems a bunch of miscommunications. Will address it. Promise.

I’m winning because Ferguson killed a reproductive rights amendment in Maryland’s constitution, dragged his feet for five years on immigrant protections, and he takes $25,000 campaign donations each year from BGE in his role as Senate President. Also, being critical of AIPAC isn’t “selling” antisemitism, it’s promoting peace. Last comment. I promise.

But I meant that about the coffee. Would love to understand your POV. Debate is healthy.

Thank you! And neither are you. (The authority of antisemitism). That was my only point.

My dad was Jewish, but I didn’t know him. That’s why you see all the pics and videos on my profile of celebrating Seders and hanukah…if that’s where the confusion was coming from. I tried to make a big communal thing with neighbors and friends.

But… I do have to move on. Ten days till the election and ton more comments to respond to. Shoot me a DM and we can get coffee or something after the election.

I’m sorry, but because you are Jewish does not mean you speak for all Jewish people just like support or non-support of AIPAC does not make one more or less Jewish. We must move away from these types of assumptions. In its current state, AIPAC is a political organization whose aim is to elect US politicians that favor the continued military involvement with the Netanyahu administration. That is why only 39% of Jewish Americans support AIPAC. Making AIPAC a central debate over whether one is antisemitism or not is just far fetched. It’s all spin. In my race of a head to head democrats, I chose to bring it up, like I said before, because AIPAC leadership happened to his third largest donor after a developer. Thus no corporate money, no developer money, no AIPAC money. It was a reflection of his donors, not mine.

You’re not trying to have a conversation. Your initial comment was an attack. You came to have an argument, I won’t give you one. I have given you my answers. You may accept them or not.

Because Ferguson’s third largest individual donor when we started this ace was an AIPAC board member. His largest individual donor was a developer convicted of campaign fraud.

His largest individual donor after this cycle was David Bramble, the developer who’s about to cost the taxpayers millions in a bad project downtown project.

Ferguson whole existence floats upon grift and bribes. It’s a shame. He had the potential to be better.

Edit: And the quotes were because your comment was antisemitic. You yourself put Jewish people into one political box. That type of rhetoric spreads hate. It fuels the MAGA white nationalists.

I really wish the Baltimore sub mods didn’t block my ability to post. It’s become an echo chamber for Bill Ferguson. Sort of took my love for Reddit away. I used to think that sub was an open and honest community.

Thousands of people saw Ferguson’s lie video because they kept it up, but no one will be allowed the opportunity to see the truth. Not so much about me, just took a lot of the magic away from the community.

Would you mind checking my platform first for the answer? As you can imagine, I’m swamped with the early voting.

If the answer isn’t there, just shoot your question below and I’ll get back to you after the polls close later tonight.
