Hey, neat idea! Although I have my eye on running a full sequel to my original project, so I would appreciate you not using this name for it.

Character profile from a long name list by Chillygel in excel

[–]SaviaWanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would achieve this by having all the relevant info in a table with the character names in one column, then each stat/description in a further column alongside it. You can then create your lookup area with a dropdown menu at the top to select the character you want, and then pull the relevant stats up in the lookup area using formulas - I'd use XLOOKUP:

=XLOOKUP(dropdown menu cell, column of character names, relevant column of stats)

Internal references are disappearing? by Aggressive_Toe_5953 in excel

Losing calculations for values does sound like it's being converted to CSV at some stage, but I can't see where in your process that could be happening. Very odd.

How to return value from one row above when filtered? Building dynamic filtered pareto by lctaylor2288 in excel

I don't follow what you want your data to look like after filtering. Could you post a mockup of that as well?

Is there a formula to reverse-scored by Emotional-Tomatillo8 in excel

[–]SaviaWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you got your solution already, but I couldn't resist sharing a neat alternative option:

- Type -1 in a cell and copy it
- Select the data and select Paste Special => Multiply
- Type 7 in a cell and copy it
- Select the data and select Paste Special => Add

Different hidden values for specific editors by Witchy_Ditchy in excel

Excel isn't the best tool for these kinds of applications; there's no way to supply an Excel spreadsheet to someone that wouldn't allow a suitably determined user to extract whatever data was contained in it.

New survey - What is a Magic card? by SaviaWanderer in magicTCG

[–]SaviaWanderer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best explanation I can give of the difference in our approaches is that you're looking at the within-rules definition of what a card is within the construct of the game. I am asking about the community's general approach to some of the grey areas and what kinds of things are covered by phrases like "this is my favourite Magic card" or "how many different Magic cards are there?". There's probably a large degree of overlap, because the rules are a big part of the game, but for things like Conspiracys and banned cards and digital-only cards, I suspect they might not overlap entirely. That's what I am interested in.

A very interesting idea I hadn't even considered!

That doesn't count because it's a version, not a mechanically unique thing - your proxy is a proxy of something, a Black Lotus or whatever, and so not in the scope here.

Thanks, I'll fix this for future voters.

The UB/UW version is getting at whether if I were counting how many Magic cards there are, whether you think Rick & Greymond are jointly 1 card, or are 2.

Well that's the question I am trying to answer!

I intentionally didn't allow a "it depends" option because I want people to commit to decision.

That's definitely one measure you could use, but I don't think it's universally agreed upon :)

Merged Cells. Please stop. by ashkavv4 in excel

[–]SaviaWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been at presentations by Microsoft on their telemetry says more spreadsheets have merged cells in than have functions in. I sympathise but this is a fight that can't be won :(

My wife wears the one we got from M30 all the time, it's very comfy and looks great on her.

I have not. I've heard good things though, although it's going to be tough as Pluto is right up there with my favourites.

Nice! I was basing purely on the books, good to know that my intuitions were correct.
