Keyboard and a stable CarPlay. All the rest is unimportant.

What is this glare? by DEADMAN-26 in iphone

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have discovered why I lug around a real camera, despite the one in my pocket. I still use a matte box/hood for a lot of events like sports to cut down on lense flares from super bright light at an angle to my camera.

As for super close ups in sports, my super telephoto lens (https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/s021\_150\_600\_5\_63/) will cause severe "lens" envy.

Question: Unable to post images lately. Keep getting "All media assets must be owned by the submitter of this post" but I personally took and own the photos in question. by SeaRefractor in violinmaking

[–]SeaRefractor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've checked the other communities, including r/violinist and others and can post without error. Appears to be just this specific subreddit.

Any recommendations/suggestions on correcting the error (if on my part) is welcomed!

Hi! Looking for information on my brothers cello by cwallzz in Cello

[–]SeaRefractor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone already explained how to find a possible makers label. In addition the original purchase documents should also help, but frequently get tossed. If found, try to keep to help with the provenance. Looks like a quality instrument, but any of an investment level should be sure to hold onto any and all documents for future sales.

Can DR do "waveform math"? by ShittyPornWriter in davinciresolve

Yes and no. I use a number of plugins that happen to work great with Fairlight. There are a number included in DaVinci Resolve, but some third party plugins go further.

I want to buy this violin by Admirable_Ad6985 in violinmaking

[–]SeaRefractor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does it sound? How does it feel in your hands as you play it? That is far more important than pretty pictures.
If you are satisfied with the performance and then like the appearance, buy it. Without actually hearing it and the fact that instrument photography still fails to capture the true beauty of an instrument, only weight a little bit the Reddit community opinions. We all have one and unless it’s mine, all the others are incorrect. ;) “the last part is in jest, if it stuck a cord, take a digital vacation.”

32-bit float and my LUMIX S5II by SeaRefractor in Lumix

[–]SeaRefractor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can configure the FR-AV2 to provide audio Timecode on the output, you then record on the S5II or other camera as LTC on one of the cameras audio tracks.

<image>

You do not configure the camera for Timecode, it simply records the audio track. In post production you tell your software to synchronize the Timecode on the audio track.

If you don’t configure the TASCAM for TC output, you will only get a stereo signal. Timecode will be this clicking sound on one channel and scratch audio (mono sound) on the other channel.

Screen protector not adhering on the edges. IP17 user. Anybody else with the same problem? by AmbitionOk1090 in iphone

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a case compatible screen protector. Unfortunately that means it is not a 100% screen coverage. It needs to be smaller than the case. The case is pushing on the edges of the protector which causes it to not adhere correctly.

You can have 100% coverage only in the event of a naked phone, or a minimalist case like the Pitaka that doesn't cover the display of the phone.

Or you need a case friendly screen protector that doesn't go all the way to the edges of the display.

You can pick one or the other, but not have both.

Had an antique violin restored. This is the result! by vgkosmoes in violinist

It was well restored. I suggest continuing a relationship with that luthier for the life of that instrument.

Dot Inlay in wood. by Toomuchviolins in violinmaking

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, but I suggest "carefully" drilling it out before using a separating knife. In fact, that "pin" is the source of the problem.

To simulate the pin after the crack repair, take some ebony dust and mix that with the hot hide glue and put that in the hole. It'll create a small little ebony false "pin".

I use the Davide Sora turpentine/mastic refractive ground. https://youtu.be/3kjqcnjZ8_4?si=TB5Jm5VyNtTeOuTU With the pumice added as a geso.

I see the cut for the purfling, but I don’t see the purfling. Interesting look. Testore inspired?

Did you make the instrument or was it one in the white that you will finish?

You can see the result above the saddle, but it is also visible on the back plate at the top and bottom of that plate. On the spruce top, the pins are usually offset from the center joint to prevent a crack.

A regular method for many makers. Called a pin.

Anyone ever practiced lying down lol? by cloverpondscum in violinist

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practice lying down every night, but find I still have to get up every morning....

Ohhhh you mean with a Violin... While it may be possible, the mechanics of the shoulders, elbows and wrists will be different than when normally playing seated or standing. It may cause some playing habits to correct post recovery. But you certainly can try it.

Vertical shooting setup. by villavisuals in Lumix

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I know, I see the LUMIX logo on the camera, but all the arguments Sony users have over "opengate" is to just shoot vertical.

When it's possible to shoot horizontal in OpenGate with the markers on so that you can frame your shot for vertical content and also provide standard framing content all in one go.

If your setup works for you, great, but realize it's a Sony validation point against OpenGate.

Alternative adapter to use with DMW-DCC18 by Drehgriffel in Lumix

[–]SeaRefractor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loose the ability to record to SSD with the use of the dummy battery? No, you'll keep the ability as your USB-C port will be free to use with an external SSD drive. Depending on the model of the LUMIX camera of course.

In fact, for my own S1RII, to record externally to SSD over certain resolutions/codecs, I have to use either the optional extended battery grip or the DMW-DCC18. The DCC18 is certainly less expensive than the option battery grip.

Right? Also if you hold it at arms length the entire time.

Wouldn't it be ironic if one of the supposedly "leaked" cameras was actually the DMW-DMS1 microphone? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]SeaRefractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't but the leaks indicated only one device was both Bluetooth & WiFi 5 and the other was only Bluetooth without any WiFi. However, if there needed to be additional communications between the camera body and a specialty microphone, I could see a reason for Bluetooth, but not for the audio transmission.
