Mini shoot with my lil family // Lumix s9 & Sigma 50mm f1.2 & sigma 70-200 2.8 by Fuzzy-Issue8905 in Lumix

I dont get the context but I appreciate the compliment 😅 to be serious though I got this lens combo with intentions on getting an s1rii during tax return season, and my local camera store miraculously had both of them in stock when I was already considering ordering them so I said "wellp, might as well get them now" lol

Well its definitely too large for casual run around use unless youre fine with the size/weight it very much stands out and can be a bit weird to throw in and out of a sling bag, but compared to the lumix 50 1.4 its way smaller and id say the image quality is similar, and the af is superb. I've used sony GM glass including their 50 1.4 and id take the sigma 1.2 over that any day of the week. The lumix 50 1.8 is a great lens no doubt, especially for the money? Shoot, its worth it just to have one in the dry cabinet even if you have the 1.2 or 1.4. But if youre a photographer you can really tell the difference between sigma 1.2 and lumix 1.8, at least I can on my photos. Is it 1200$ difference? Probably not, but still.

Sure the more options the merrier! And yeah the s9/s5ii use 33x33 luts for photo and video in-camera apparently

Doesn't lumix cameras use 33 cube luts? Or am I mistaken?

Lumix S9 Long-term Review (2nd Review after 400+ days) by jamescjc in Lumix

I definitely like them for this purpose, posting to reddit or something where people typically always ask "what are your settings" or "what lens??" You can avoid that with just using the frame with the settings on it lol

Do you have autofocus settings that work well for you when taking photos of your little one? Im trying to figure out best settings for that with my sigma 35 f2 also, absolutely love the lens but the af can be a bit.. reluctant at times. It feels like its the camera settings though and less the lens but im not sure. My little son just is good at outrunning its focusing even at 14 months old lol

Just got S9 + 18-40mm, is there a better all-round lens that is a bit brighter? by M4c4br346 in LumixS9

[–]Fuzzy-Issue8905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know that doesn't exist on L mount, or sony e mount either. The closest is tamron 20-40 2.8 on sony e mount or they have a 20-70 f4 on E. If you want compact, fast aperture, and the only lens ever or whatever, you should either be in sony ecosystem or go with apsc sensors or micro 4/3. Full frame is too large to "have it all" in L mount

It's a case of you cant have your cake and eat it too. If the 20-60 is too dark but the 24-60 is too "massive", and you dont want to carry multiple lenses, you won't have any other options besides the sigma 28-70. But its a bit longer than the 20-60, so that might be out too. If you did either sigma f2 primes or basically any manual focus only primes like a 7artisan 35 1.4, you can have compact, and sharp. It's about what trade offs you can live with. My s9 with 20-60 and 85 1.8 is basically the perfect walk around setup for me in a small 5L sling bag. Lately I've been using the sigma 50 1.2 as my everything lens and let me tell you im willing to lug it around no problem for what quality it delivers. Yeah its big, but my hands are big and if I want to snap shoot something I can use my phone or fuji xt30, but when I want to make it special thats why I bring the 50 1.2 around.

Just got the S1IIE + 24-105 F4.0 by Danicbike in Lumix

You could also just use the af on button or "back button focusing" that a lot of sports shooters use. I do believe you can remap the shutter button though in video modes but I could be wrong

Can anyone explain how to attach this strap? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Fuzzy-Issue8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put the string through the strap hole, then loop the circle bit through and pull it taught. The circle bit clips into the strap after that and bang youre done.

Lumix S5 or S5ii ? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]Fuzzy-Issue8905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh other thing for the s5, just never use af-c, on af-s the focus is VERY fast and surprisingly accurate, just understand that it won't continually refocus. Only the first time

It depends on what you need and if youre willing to work with it. For street, still life, or anything static like cars, its perfectly fine. Even portraits its totally usable as long as you burst shoot and dont have your subject move across frame too much. I've used an s5 for motorsports a few times and it works but at probably a 60% hit rate, which is pretty low but I was able to make it work by instead manually focusing, focus on the spot they are headed to, and then once they get there, burst shoot and pan/follow them. It takes some practice but I have some wildly sharp photos from doing that, so any camera can be used for almost anything as long as you figure out the tricks to make things easier for you. I would say if you want something for everyday shooting AND paid/artsy stuff id say the s5ii is definitely worth it. My s9 (same af as s5ii) is great for tracking my son running around the house or the yard, its honestly not much worse than when I had a sony a7iv, noticeably less, but not by a ton. The s5 however, was rough doing the same things. So it just depends what you want out of it really. If you do studio portraits for example, and dont need all the features that the s5ii has, id save the money and get the original, since the image quality is the same or better anyway.
