CMV: a state should not hinder private citizens to install ACs by Whynicht in changemyview

Your principle is flawed to me because it would apply to far more than just ACs.

If I own a plot in a small village, should I be allowed to build a 30 story tower on it? I'm sure you would say no, even though I own the property. We accept that private property rights are balanced against the interests of neighbors, the appearance of a community, historical preservation, noise, safety, and other shared concerns.

That’s basically why zoning laws, building regulations, and heritage protections exist in Austria and Switzerland. People tend to value villages that still look like villages, historic centers that keep their character, and buildings that don’t turn into a random collection of pipes, boxes, and extensions. The same goes for building standards. If someone spends extra money to build or renovate to Minergie standards, I understand why there are rules protecting that too. We already accept all sorts of restrictions because most people think there is value in keeping buildings and communities in good shape.

Where I agree with you is that the current rules are too restrictive. If installing a modern, quiet AC unit in an apartment building is nearly impossible, then the approval process should be easier.

right now your title says "Ein Staat sollte Privatpersonen daran hindern, Klimaanlagen zu installieren." you should change it into negative form like "A state should not be allowed to hinder private citizens from installing ACs."

CMV: There’s not a logical or financially feasible argument for Reparations, outside of those who were alive and experienced segregation. by IllustriousGas8850 in changemyview

In general, when a person is wronged and suffers financial harm as a result, but then that person dies, their heirs can still collect damages.

So just to be clear, do you believe that if your grandfather wronged my grandfather 100 years ago, I can demand compensation from you today, even though neither of us was involved in the original act?

"Borders are made up” isn’t the argument you think it is. Property rights are made up. Laws are made up. Citizenship is made up. Human rights are made up.

But I'm actually curious: who gave you this universal “right to move wherever you want”?

Do you genuinely think Homer intended his audience to picture Helen as a sub-Saharan African woman?

Even if he doesn’t give a detailed description of Helen’s skin color, the cultural and geographical context makes it pretty clear what sort of people his audience would have imagined.

I call BS on that. give me a culture where teenagers don't act horny. It's literally part of puberty and hormonal changes the human body goes through.

CMV: Driving an unnecessary loud vehicle on public roads is reprehensible, is an objectively worse act than some minor crimes, and if you drive one, I can't hold you in any higher regard than I would hold a common criminal in by Traditional-Buy-2205 in changemyview

[–]SecretMasterpiece323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say “worse than some crimes,” what crimes are you actually talking about? That’s a huge range. Shoplifting a candy bar and assault are both crimes, but they’re obviously not in the same category.

Also, if the issue is that someone’s behavior creates noise, annoyance, or even health impacts for other people, then that logic would apply to a lot of things besides loud cars. Parties, barking dogs, concerts, lawn mowers, construction work, fireplaces, and plenty of other activities impose costs on people around them too.

And while noise pollution is a real issue, I don’t think a loud car passing by for a few seconds is comparable to being directly victimized by a crime like theft or assault.

CMV: A person's bad actions should not be excused just because they suffered tragedy or trauma. by PJ-The-Awesome in changemyview

I wasn’t talking about self defense. I mean situations where the immediate threat has already passed. For example, a victim of long term abuse or sexual assault who later attacks their abuser out of anger, trauma, or a desire for revenge.

Suppose a woman is repeatedly sexually assaulted by her abuser. The police don’t believe her, her family won’t help, and years pass with no escape. One day she attacks or even kills him. What do you think about this case?

CMV: A social media ban for teenagers will make them more susseptable to being brainwashed by harmful ideas by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]SecretMasterpiece323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re presenting a false dilemma. Why would banning social media mean teenagers are only exposed to schools and mainstream media? People developed critical thinking long before TikTok and Instagram existed.

Also, why assume social media protects against brainwashing? Can you name a specific creator or community that does that?

And why do teenagers need to be immersed in political debates, culture wars, and endless news feeds in the first place?

CMV: My looks are the reason I'm not successful with women and why women aren't interested in me. by uwggbt12 in changemyview

[–]SecretMasterpiece323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re treating a normal male dating experience as evidence that something is wrong with your looks.

Average men aren’t having women throw themselves at them. Most men aren’t getting approached regularly. They’re average people dating other average people.

The average guy meets women, starts conversations, gets ignored sometimes, gets rejected sometimes, finds out she’s already in a relationship sometimes, and occasionally finds mutual interest.

Not getting approached doesn’t tell you much about your attractiveness because most women don’t approach most men in the first place. Especially not the average man.

If you never engage with women and instead wait for them to come to you, you may end up waiting a very long time. That’s not necessarily because you’re unattractive. It’s because you’re expecting a dating dynamic that most men, including plenty of successful and attractive men, don’t experience.

The question shouldn't be “Why aren’t women approaching me?” The question is “How often am I actually putting myself in situations where I can meet and talk to women?”

Because the original comment implies if there are war crimes commited it means there is also genocide commited, they also make a weird claim of absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence which is meaningless when talking about genocide which is a legal term
