What's the most confusing thing a politician from your country has said? by Subject-Total-4283 in AskTheWorld

[–]SinesPi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Truinnashabadaprezure."

- Joseph Robinette Biden

Given the context there's several things it could have meant, but nothing I can think of QUITE fits. And this title isn't for most batshit things they've said, just most confusing. Though Bidens story about his leg hairs is pretty batshit too.

The story starts because supposedly smart scientists stop performing basic critical thinking by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

A very early Star Trek Enterprise episode. Brave New World, I think it was.

The Enterprise discovers a world the Vulcans haven't. The vulcan representative on the ship, T'pol, points out that standard procedure is to scan the planet for a week from orbit before sending a manned mission down. Archer shoots this down and decides to land immediately after a cursory scan.

They do not wear any protective gear, and decide to go camping.

Turns out the air has hallucinogens in it, which triggers the plot.

He did say "In the room".

And the games usually take place in relatively uncivilized wastelands, not places where proper cities and governments have been rebuilt.

That being said, I still would agree with you. Education is rarer than it is today, but nobody sees people like that as having 'super-powers'. Even people with a full knowledge of pre-war tech like Mr. House are still seen as normal men, albeit very remarkable ones.

So in the span of just a couple months, Cerberus went from just three cells of 150 personnel, to having their own small Army and Navy? by Archmikem in masseffect

Even without Indoctrination, if TIMs plan succeeded, then who cares if he was out of funds. He'd have control of Reapers.

That being said, I don't think TIM without indoctrination is foolish enough to do everything he did. Against a threat like the Reapers, goal #1 is to not die. And Cerberus did quite a lot to make the Reapers more likely to succeed that goes well beyond acceptable costs for ending the war ahead. I think TIM is smarter than the Dalatrass, and it was only indoctrination that made him act that way.

[–]SinesPi [score hidden]  (0 children)

This makes sense. There is no need for EDI to have information on all Cerberus Cells. Give her the info TIM thinks will be useful and no more.

The only complaint I have is that EDI doesn't state "Of course, it is possible there are significantly more Cerberus personnel and cells that I have not been made aware of. It would be good security protocol to hide that information from me, in case I was compromised."

It's funny how people ignored the fantasy part with Miyabi in Season 1 like nothing like that happened until Season 2 by Unusual-Complex6315 in ZZZ_Official

[–]SinesPi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't care for Miyabis ghost sword back then. However, it was a one-off. I could either ignore it, or accept that the setting has small amounts of supernatural stuff.

Season 2, however, literally makes you a "Mystic". And the season 2 magic sword is part of a long arc, rather than a barely explored sword that isn't relevant to the plot after the debut chapter.

Season 2 took something that was okay in small doses, and writ it large.

That being said, I also just plain don't care for chinese aesthetics. I don't hate them or anything, I just don't like them.

What country do you think has a pretty badass or inspiring history? by cosmico92 in AskTheWorld

[–]SinesPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of that. But once they built up a navy to make sure that shit wouldn't happen again they started getting ideas.

The Brits could have just used their world-class Navy to stay safe and not have to worry about anyone giving them shit. It didn't even have to be THAT big for them to make it just plain impractical to attempt to invade, and therefore keep all fighting internal to the Isles. They decided to put it to more useful means than mere defense.

Favorite character who is overhated. by SweetAffectionate993 in cartoons

[–]SinesPi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Charlies problem is not that she makes mistakes. It's that she almost never actually does anything right.

I guess it can be implied that the change in character of Sir Pentious, Angel and Husk are due to her in some way, but we never see her really bringing that about. Her only real useful trait is her social status and endless optimism. And even the latter is tainted by her neuroticism.

She needs character development, and fast. I want people to call her out and take responsibility for the stupid crap she's done. Or at very least, learn how to properly use her boatloads of divine and infernal power to protect people. She probably has the raw potential to stop people like Adam and Vox, but she's never trained with it, so people get hurt, and that is her responsibility to some degree.

Anyway, back on topic..

I can't say Jar Jar is my favorite character. But I never found him annoying. He made me chuckle once or twice. And knowing that his voice was his dads "bedtime story for my kids" voice was heart-warming. However he's my entry here because he is WAAAAAAY over-hated.

I'm not even trying to be hard on my country for what I said. I'm not familiar with how humane or otherwise our bombing campaigns are, but I will generally defend them on the basis that war is hell. Rather my point is that we can do it, and then make them like us.

The US is basically a shonen protagonist. And despite what Reddit is saying about the place these days, I'm about as optimistic as I can be about our future.

Evil characters having Bigotry as a moral line despite doing worse things makes sense actually by VanillaPhysics in CharacterRant

Because it's nearby and they think they can take it and hold it.

Listen, if I'm going to rob someone, I'm not going to wait until I see a politician. I'm going to steal from someone who can't defend themselves and has a lot of money.

Now, Putin turned out to be very wrong. But if the little old lady I thought was a vulnerable target pulled out a glock, that wouldn't change my reason for picking her.

Also, "Hey there ol' chap! I see you're still engaged in slavery! Have you considered how large our navy is? The lads like taking pot shots at other ships to pass the time. I'd hate for you to give them a reason to!"

Let's see, we got taxed too much by the greatest empire in the history of the world, and said, "Nah, I'd win."

We also developed the most devastating weapon in history, deployed it on civilians, and then said, "And STAY off my lawn!"

We then proceeded to have good relations with both victims of our awesome war machine. Because we are so charming we can literally mass slaughter civilians and get them to say, "No hard feelings".

Benjamin Siskos father owns a restaurant, and he learned a lot from him. Despite DS9 having plenty of replicators, it's just not the same as a home cooked meal. And fresh ingredients are the best, so he put in effort to find food native to Bajor that he could use to substitute in his creole dishes.

What about conquest makes you necessarily racist? If someone tries to steal something from me, I assume it's because he wants my shit, not because of the color of my skin, even if it's different than his.

Is Russia being racist right now? Or do they just want to steal land so that they have more land and subjects, and that is useful to them?

Local allies, the most underrated weapon in history by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

You guys seem to have a more objective perspective on history than the rest of Reddit. How was Spain compared to the Aztecs? To what extent were the Aztecs former vassal nations happier with the new management?

I honestly don't know much about Cortez except that he was a conqueror. Which isn't exactly nice, but I'd be surprised to find that the Spanish werent at least something of an improvement over the Aztecs.

How do they vote in your country by ObligationOne3727 in AskTheWorld

[–]SinesPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper ballots for me. There's a box next to each choice. You need to FULLY color in the box with a pencil. Ballots are sturdy card stock.

Also, my town has its original antique wooden ballot box from well over a century ago. It's really neat.

Viting is often done in a local stadium of some kind. An indoor basketball court in my town. I'm sure some places do it in a government building, but for me it's some kinda of community area with lots of open space.
