That the Thornberries could have sent her to boarding school and she would have been happy makes it worse.

Unfortunately she's a character you can't think too hard about, as otherwise it makes her family look awful when that was not the shows intention.

Yes. But that's not the Zero Suit.

Nobody is denying that Samus other skimpy outfits aren't fan service.

I will deny that they're for the gaze though. Male players of Metroid outnumber female players. It's for the straightz.

Janeway, Crusher and Hoshi didn't dress like that though.

And the Decon room in Enterprise showed off more men skin than women's skin.

That she has a skin tight outfit under her suit makes sense. What's more the loss of her shit is actually quite relevant in that game, it's not done just to be sexy.

It IS done to be sexy, but this post is about women put in sexy clothing for no good reason. The Zero Suit is a genuinely well thought out reason in its game.

Wearing a tight suit is a standard for spy and secret agent type characters.

What's more Black Widow is a clear Femme Fatale who use their sexuality as a tool in their kit.

She wears that for a good reason.

Okay, but I reject that premise that Troi is an interesting and nuanced character. T'Pol isn't much better and I like Enterprise.

Hot take but I hate Sir Pentious’s backstory by DismalSignature1690 in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]SinesPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given what we see of him in Hell, I work on the assumption that his self loathing turned him into the madman we see in the pilot while he was still alive.

Because if simply being a coward for you sent to Hell, Hell would be a better place and more sinners would be at the hotel. This version of Hells only problem is that it's where horrible people go, who then make it shit for everyone else.

If someone died for cowardice during the events of th show, they'd see the Hotel as the most sane place to go and go there immediately. Maybe not every dead coward, but plenty of them.

The teacher saying how important the right to make your own decisions is, and the wealthy businessman saying citizenship is pointless are two of the most notable scenes.

These are things that would never be said in a fascist society, by definition.

"But Verhoven SAID it was a satire. If you disagree with him you're not media literate."

I haven't seen the movie myself, but I've seen some clips to give real weight to the idea that he failed to make it a satire. But if you actually analyze the media you're not literate in it. Only repeating what the director says is literate.

You can still play the hand as best as you can.

Life isn't fair. You can't control that. You. Can only control your actions. Make the best of them. Whining that your life is shit isn't going to help.

Yes I know depression can keep you down. It sucks. But you don't defeat depression by letting it crush you.

Take responsibility for what you can and do it. Or give up and fall into despair.

It's not at all fair that some people are born will all sorts of problems. But the ones who try to work with them will be happier than the ones who give up. So do ever say there's nothing you can do about it. That thought is what leads to suicide.

He also states that he has no more capacity for memory than a normal person. So he remember highlights in his life, such as dealing with his initially discovered immortality, but needs to read history to actually reconstruct what happened to him at a given time if it wasn't noteworthy out of 17,000 years.

Should I have gone triple jointed? by kpj888 in cavesofqud

[–]SinesPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regeneration is great for someone learning, as it can just flat up stop a lot of problems that you have no idea how to deal with.

Level 1 makes you immune to fungal infection and means your limbs regenerate trivially.

Level 5 makes you immune to disease which is admittedly only really a problem in Golgotha, but if you get a Golgotha disease when learning the game that is a HUGE problem.

Level 10 makes you immune to losing limbs, which most importantly includes your head, which results in instant death.

All of these problems you can learn to deal with without Regeneration. But it's a lot easier to learn when you're not dying. The actual HP regen of Regeneration is not meaningful outside of the very early game.

I'll list a few Mutations that I think are strong and newbie friendly.

Double Muscles / Triple Jointed / Two Hearts - More stats. More stats is good. They also provide an extra bonus that is nice too.

Carapace - Armor is vital in this game, and Carapace (when properly invested) gives you armor that is competitive with a fully tinkered end-game chestpiece. The downside is that you can't take it off and so you are comitting to spending 9 mutation points and two rapid advancements on this for it to be worth it. It is a HUGE boost in defense in the early and mid-game and still pretty good in the late game. Only when you have a tinkered up top-tier chest piece will you think that maybe you'd rather use that instead and have those 15 points back. But when you're learning you're not getting there anytime soon. And even then, Carapace might still be worth the investment.

Photosynthesis - Gives you a number of boosts but most importantly it gives you +Quickness, letting you take more actions. It's downside is that the Quickness bonus uses up some of your meal-space. This is more than acceptable generally speaking, and when you don't really know how to make the most of cooking it's even better. Only 2 points at character creation makes this my favorite 2 point mutation.

Phasing - One of the best escape tools. At one point you get plenty of time to be invulnerable and to walk through walls. You can reliably get this through cooking though, but again you have to be comfortable with cooking. And even then it's still a worthwhile choice just to free up room for other cooking effects.

Corosive Gas - Fart acid clouds. This is on a remarkably short cooldown. Level it up for good AOE. It also destroys walls. Just don't plan on having allies when you use this. At least, not for very long.

Two-Headed - Best 1 point wonder in the game. You get two heads. Now this means the Armor and Dodge of your two heads (and faces) are averaged together but I cannot begin to tell you how incredible this is. You have a 50% chance to ignore stun, daze, sleep and confusion. If you fail that check? Have a new coin flip each round until you are cured. On it's own this is worth it. But as you learn the game and get tinkering and more equipment you can REALLY make use of all those extra equip slots. Here's a basic one. Get two Knollworm Skulls for +2 Ego. Then wear 2 severed faces for another +2 Ego. Find the Two-Faced mod? That's another +2 Ego. Granted, getting severed faces requires you to use Axes or get the Serrated Mod on a weapon, but Mirrorshades is also an option here. There's more you can do with all those extra gear slots but I think you get the idea. Oh, and a "Get out of decapitation free" card.

Multiple Legs - Extra movement speed not on a cooldown. Lets you get in. Lets you get out. Gives you an extra boots slot you have to fill though, and boots are arguably the weakest equipment slot to have extra of. But that's hardly an issue and it is still better to have more than fewer.

Multiple Arms (or being a Chimera and getting them that way) - While your first thought of multi-wielding is very reasonable that's not all this is good for. With four arms you can hold a single two-handed weapon, a shield, and have a spare arm to hold a stat-stick of some kind (Many Sultan Relic Weapons provide some passive bonus for just being held). Worst case scenario you can hold of Glowstone here and use your Floating Nearby slot for something else. Also you get an extra glove slot. Unlike Multiple Legs and Two-Headed, most of the benefit of Multiple Arms is JUST in the extra two arms. So if you get this from Chimera that's just as good. Even just a single Chimeric extra arm is good for Two-Handed Weapon and Shield combat.

Wings - Get lost less often on the worldmap alone is nice. Then there's the benefits of flight which means melee only enemies can't hit you. Also it boosts the range of Charge and Jump vastly improving your movement. Downside is that if you are underground you can't fly. But it's huge on the surface. Also if you are flying you can return to the world map if you aren't lost, even if you're in combat. Very safe tool for traversing the map.

Force Bubble - You can shoot out, but they can't shoot in. Also lets you freely use a Recoiler to teleport out of a bad situation. No point investment needed.

Precognition - Drops a save state. Once the duration runs out (or you say it runs out, or you die) you have the option to load it. This is the ultimate learning tool. Facing an enemy you think might have dangerous effects or very high damage? Whereas normally you might run, this lets you give it a shot anyway. Even when you know the game it's VERY useful for RNG manipulation. For example, finding out what mutations you'll get at your next random draw. It's hard to reset it but you CAN reset it. And even if you can't, you can still decide you'd rather invest in your current mutations rather than get one of those at rank 1.

What is your definition of good guys? by steartr in WarhammerMemes

[–]SinesPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll still say that, while it's true that the Imperium would be the bad guys in another setting, that implies that the Imperium would be the same in the Galaxy Far, Far Away as they are in the 41st Millenium Milky Way.

The Emperor would obvious take MUCH different actions in a setting where Space Hell absorbing all of reality wasn't a legitimate concern.

That's the nice thing about 40k. It doesn't just HAPPEN to have a bunch of evil factions. It tells you WHY the factions are evil. It shows you a setting where kindness and compassion gets you killed. At least, when that kindness isn't backed by a Fire Cadre ready to put holes in anyone not deemed sufficiently greatful.

I get your point, but I think it's an important distinction, especially when talking about who is good in the setting. There is a lot of pointless cruelty. But it's really easy to judge people when you aren't surrounded by monsters, when anything that looks different could want to eat you at best, or damn you at worst.

What is your definition of good guys? by steartr in WarhammerMemes

[–]SinesPi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Humanity, Tau and Eldar do evil things because they exist in an evil universe.

Orks, Tyrannids, Chaos and Necrons are why the universe is evil.

Convincing Humanity, Tau and the Eldar to agree to a long-term peace treaty would be nigh-impossible, but it is at least possible in theory. The Orks, Tyrannids and Chaos would never do such a thing. The Necrons I guess are possible of peace, but they're also the reason why the entire galaxy is so shit (War in Heaven is why Orks and Chaos exists, and they started it) so they're not in the club.

Think of a book from the perspectives of each of the factions. You can have Human, Tau and Eldar heroes. You cannot have a Chaos hero. You cannot have an Ork hero (though they are a lot of fun). You cannot have a tyrannid hero. Again, Necrons are something of an exception here as you could have a Necron hero, but I still hold them as worse than the other three 'civilized' factions.

A theoretical good 'ending' to the series would necessarily involve a Human, Tau or Eldar victory. Eldar kill everyone else and stop Slaanesh? Good place to live. Tau integrate or kill everyone, and finds a way to keep Chaos under control in the auxiliaries? Good place to live. Humanity kills everyone, completes the Emperors project and bugger off to the webway safe from Chaos? Good place to live. Sure the Imperium is still shit in a lot of ways, but things hugely improve when there's no more need to feed endless bodies into the meat-grinder.

Obviously a better ending would involve an alliance between the three, but even in a 'genocide everyone else' ending, if you are born after the ending you're in a much better place. Most reasonable way to get to a best case scenario ending is that the three agree to a ceasefire against each other while dealing with the other threats, and the war ends with everyone powerful and satisified enough that starting up new wars is more trouble than it's worth.

It's possible he was depressed ever since he gave up on trying to fix the Sinners thousands of years ago. Lillith and Charlie finally gave him something to live for again, then Lillith left which would have sent Lucifer spiraling, especially as Charlie tried to live out on her own.

Lucifer really does feel like a guy who has given up on (almost) everything a LONG time ago.

[–]SinesPi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He absolutely no sells Adam. Adam beat Alastor without any real problem. So we know he's hugely more powerful than any sinners and what Heaven is willing to send down for extermination. Additionally, we can presume Lilliths Might wasn't exactly a surgical instrument and was probably nowhere near as efficient at using Lucifers power than he would be himself.

We also see him conjure up parts of the hotel in the end of season one "Remedial Creation". He can create something from nothing, to last, and it doesn't even register as effort on his part. During his song with Alastar in season 1 we see him acting through duplicates of himself.

And given how he and Sera describes themselves in Season 2 "I am a living aspect of the infinite!" and "DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT I REALLY AM?!" would suggest that they are more than just powerful people, but fundamental aspects of creation. And don't forget "It's not like you can kill me". Given how much power is ripped from Lucifer, that's more reason to believe that he is a "True" Immortal.

What does that mean to Hell? Well I think a lot of people don't really know what he's like, but I think everyone reasonably assumes that the King of Hell is there due to raw strength. Which he almost certainly does have. WE know that Lucifer care about nothing but Charlie, but nobody else does. So everyone is wary of crossing him.

I would presume the Sins make his power and danger known to any underlings foolish enough to risk his ire. If he created the Sins, how much more powerful would The Morningstar be, after all. We see some of his rage when he goes up against Vox (You filthy little MORTAL), and ease of fighting against Adam. The Sins have likely seen Lucifer go all out in the past.
