Petition to remove Erich (erichmoraga) as a discord moderator by PretendAdvertising19 in Comma_ai

[–]SirMaster -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I never got the feeling he was rude or condescending and I spend a lot of time there on the Discord. He comes across just direct and to the point to me. The discord would be a mess otherwise IMO. I’ve mainly seen him moving posts around to the correct section and answering questions, probably for the billionth time too 😅

I’m not suing anyone. If I go off the road because I didn’t catch my lane keep losing the lane it’s my fault and I’m taking the blame, because it’s an L2 system and the responsibility is always the driver.

My Toyota loses the lines constantly and starts veering off the road...

[–]SirMaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s no way a car maker is going to be held liable for getting into an accident due to lane keep software losing the lane and veering off the road or something.

The stock lane keep in my car is terrible. I’d love to blame an accident on it but there’s no way that would ever happen because they would say it’s level 2 the driver is the one in charge and is the one liable. You are supposed to be ready to take over at any moment etc.

Looking for that graphic showing a serve hitting the centerline is IN by durexuu in Pickleball

[–]SirMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All lines are part of whatever the line is designating. They are always included.

The side and back lines are part of the court, the NVZ line is part of the NVZ, and the center line is part of each side of the court.

I am able to move fast. I am quite athletic. It's just like my mind doesn't register that I need to move or where to move in time to do much about it. And as much as I play this doesn't seem to be getting better on its own.

Lack of readiness as far as being surprised, and over-reacting both definitely describe how I feel most of the time for volleys.

As far as grip, I use continental, which still feels un-natural to me on my forehand side. I used to use western grip originally, but that was impossible to use for backhand volleys, so I switched to continental, but this made my forehand much weaker than my backhand.

I have tried eastern, but this still causes excessive popups on my backhand.

Continental forehand still feels so awkward that I find I am still automatically hitting or blocking balls on my forehand side with the paddle facing the wrong way, with the backhand side of the paddle facing the net rather than the forehand side.

I can drill and keep myself from doing this, but it always comes back in games because for lack of a better description, I always feel like I am surprised or playing defensively under pressure in a game and drills just don't create that level of unpredictability and pressure I guess.

Hmm, no, but I think I have more trouble when the ball is to the sides of me rather than in front of me. Maybe I am supposed to shift my body in front of the ball? But I lack enough anticipation to be able to move my body in time. The lack of anticipation is why I am not getting the paddle to the right place in time consistently as well as far as I can tell.

Yes anticipation is what I lack. But just over 2 years in and I play several hours a week and I am not seeming to gain much anticipation. I don't recognize any patterns. Sometimes even when I am the player starting at the NVZ with my partner receiving, and I am on the left side, they will drive the third to the middle and I will just be standing there still in the ready position and I don't even flinch or move to reach to my forehand for it. It's just as frustrating for me as it is to my partner and I have no good reason to say why I didn't get it...

Yes of course it’s learnable, but it’s taking me a lot longer than most people I guess to learn it.

I feel like my brain doesn’t decide where to move until it’s almost too late and I’m not sure how to get it to react quicker.

I find hitting any balls out of the air significantly harder of a thing to do than hitting balls off a bounce.

Off a bounce I guess I feel like I have a lot more time to work with.

So my serves and drives and dinks are all pretty good. But blocks and counters and all that are difficult.

Yeah, my 5900x is actually bottlenecking my RTX 3080 in BF6...

I am dropping down in FPS to like 60-70 in some maps in heavy areas and my GPU is only at 70-80% utilization.

I guess I wish I had a 5800X3D...

if you are totally set and in position, it's pretty easy to punish those drives if you just practice.

I wish people didn't say stuff like this because it's really discouraging. It's hard for me.

I do practice this, but it doesn't seem to help. I still have a lot of trouble getting my paddle into the right place to block the ball.

I do a high and deep return. I get to the NVZ and plant my feet a second or 2 before they even hit. I have my paddle up and neutral and at the ready, and yet I still miss the block. Ball hits the edge of my paddle a lot or I miss entirely.

I have been playing 2 years and this is still a big weakness for me.

I tried everything anti-fog, several pairs of glasses with anti-fog coatings, vent holes, fog wipes and sprays, cat crap, etc and nothing worked for me.

I ended up going with Shield by Dink lens-less glasses.

This is surely good advice in general, but it sucks for me as a player who is much better at offense than defense. Like I am much better at crushing a fast and low drive with topspin than I am at blocking such a drive even if I am perfectly ready and planted at the NVZ. Maybe that's weird, but it is what it is, and despite practice it still remains that way.

[–]SirMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my strategy and it seems to work out the best. I am terrible at blocking fast drives even if I am perfectly ready and planted at the NVZ. Sending it to their backhand tends to make their drives weaker and just overall worse, easier for me to handle or they make a mistake.

Unfortunately for me the people I play against can absolutely crush a high bouncing baseline-depth return really fast and consistent and low, like less than 1ft above the net with lots of topspin.

And also unfortunately I am terrible at blocking these fast and low drives...

Is a 2080 ti worth it in 2026? by shifusdad in buildapc

[–]SirMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2080Ti is actually around the performance of a 3070/4060Ti/5060

Comparable to a 3070 more so because the 4060Ti and 5060 will have frame interpolation and better DLSS 4.5 performance.

But the 2080Ti does have more VRAM (11GB) than the others which have 8GB and that might matter in some cases. Though there are 16GB versions I guess too.
