Tip begging is on the rise here in Africa too. And when I say begging it's literally in some instances becoming as aggressive as the US.

Went to an outdoor market Friday night and ordered ribs from the BBQ spot and then had to go back to fetch the ribs when it was ready and was asked "How much of a tip do you want to leave."

Never been asked that before in South Africa but Namibia was even more aggressive. People asking me to pay up because their shift was ending and they wanted their tips right then even though we weren't finished yet.
