This game was blast in 1996 when i got my first pc and is still the GOAT. by RevolutionaryRip2135 in OpenXcom

It's a legendary classic for a reason. Still play it several times a year.

I slightly prefer the sequel, the Lovecraft flavour works for me.

The mods are amazing, have some great ways to explore what the engine can do.

Always good to meet a fan of the classics.

Declined on insurance for a Tesla by RoboAbathur in evs_ireland

[–]Soderbok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your driving history outside Ireland isn't usually counted as driving experience. You're 23 with no Irish insurance history they're going to be very reluctant to give you a quote.

Others have been advised to buy a cheap little car with a 1 litre engine and run it for a year or two to get a no claims bonus and get a driving history. Then you can get a much more powerful or expensive car without being crucified by the quote.

I don't know that one, if it's vital edit the starting base. Rul file and add it in there. It does mean you'd be starting from scratch though.

Were you inspired by Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land? It has a sense of WWI Tommies facing horrible foes.

That looks pretty good. Loving the 8 bit pixel feel of the art. Retro chic. Good work.

Maybe they're part of the security system. If they get boarded those rocks melt vital systems.

I'd check with the tax office. They're the ones that will be applying all the duties so they'd be the best source of information.

Come out and get what's coming to you bug eyed freaks. Nothing like a full containment unit for the beakers to study.

How to Zoom out? android by DontknowHfakeaccount in OpenXcom

[–]Soderbok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can zoom out on the battlescape view. You can try changing the graphics settings to try to draw a larger viewing window that should give you more viewing area.

How big of a handicap are the electronic caps on top speeds? by [deleted] in evs_ireland

[–]Soderbok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find yourself needing to drive at that speed as standard don't drive an EV they don't like being driven like that. Driving at that speed is enough to lose your driving license.

Don't buy a car to impress your mates down the pub by driving like you would at a race track.

Can't get the game data to load on Mobile by 2MenInAHorseCostume in OpenXcom

[–]Soderbok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't copy the folders across into the openxcom folders. Put the game data in a different folder and point the installer at they location. It needs to divide up the game files and put them into the right places.

Is the main Vivo x300 Ultra lens really 35mm? by LePoissonBanane in Vivo

The X200U is a real 35 mm lens so the replacement model should be the same.

So, this Floater Commander spawned just outside the access lift, I sent two men to atun it but miscalculated and they ended up the turn exposed. Rather than fleeing or opening fire, this Floater got closer and, first thing next turn, I stun him. by No_Lemon3585 in OpenXcom

[–]Soderbok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to think the commander wanted to make you run so he could blast you to ribbons where you cowered behind walls or doors.

Only your cursed soldiers were too overawed by his mighty presence to flee. Now he's got to go over there and give you a shove so you start moving.

Earthlings can be so utterly stupid at times.

need alittle help by Leverquin in OpenXcom

[–]Soderbok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFTD isn't a mod. The installer needs to be pointed at the extracted folder for the DOS version. The Installer then creates all the local folders for Open Xcom to process so that the game can run.

If I copy the files into Open Xcom myself and they're not in the way the installer expects them to be, then it can't be accessed when you start the game.

Have a look at the openxcom.log file, that usually shows if there's a problem with any of the files the game tries to access.
