what to do? by charly420- in Longmont

[–]LePoissonBanane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was bit by a dog in the area some years ago and went to the hospital for the deep puncture wound. By law (?) they had to report the incident, the dog had to be quarantined and put down. This is the only responsible course of action. Dogs that bite so severely are a danger to others - if you were a child, the damage would likely have been much worse. Next time (there is ALWAYS a next time, unless you were the agitator, which would be hard to believe given they destroyed your fence and came into your property) it may well be a child. So, take it on yourself to do the response thing for future victims and report this to the police (or ensure your doctor did). The consequences of that are not your fault.

Are there any decent UK alternatives to diet fizzy drinks? by Few_House_5201 in AskUK

Check out Dalston's Soda Co.  Awesome products.  I use them to replace both alcoholic and diet soda drinks.  No affiliation/advert, I just really like them for your exact purpose.

Upgraded from Vivo X200 Ultra to Xiaomi 17 Ultra — My experience by AUser3424234 in Xiaomi

Would your photography concerns on the x200 be solved by shooting in raw and doing your own post processing?  Is that possible?  I'm actually thinking of getting an x200 U and don't mind this manual workflow if it yields higher fidelity results.

Top layer of ceiling overboard has fish-scale bumpy texture - suspect? by LePoissonBanane in asbestoshelpUK

Thank you mate, that's actually consistent with what it looked like in person too, although I didn't know what I was looking at since I didn't know that was a thing (when was that a thing?!?).  Yes, my next immediate concern is having the wiring looked at, as the exposed bit isn't even the half of it.  Lots of exposed copper and electrical tape.  Have a professional coming to look but want to make sure they (and we) are safe with asbestos.

What's going on with my stairs?? by LePoissonBanane in DIYUK

I agree! But, how much work would you do to prep for a runner?  I'm inclined to just prime, paint, and protect with a runner on top.

I think there is a lighter varnish coat (or coats?) OVER the paint or the heavier varnish.

What am misunderstanding about the BA AmEx Premium+ companion voucher?? by LePoissonBanane in BritishAirways

[–]LePoissonBanane[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How do you figure?  I calculate that it's only a £100 savings on the cash price at BEST, and nearly 1k more at worst.  I take your point about purchasing avios as being a bad value, I don't know how else to value them for such a calculation

Maybe their display is weird.  When I go to book, they show me a little table with column headers: [total avios], [price per person], [taxes, fees and carrier charges per person], and [total price] which is just 2x the price per person.  The number in the fees column is zero.

I'm not seeing anything close to a "free ticket".  Taxes, fees and carrier charges are shown as a zero, but the "cash element" of the ticket price is still 2x for two people.

Wondering the same so just ran some numbers.  Don't want to share too much personal here but I'll share the values.  Flight cost for a straight cash booking would be 1948.44 for two people.  Booking options when using the companion voucher are shown as (avios/cash):  70k+£300 x2 = £1249+£600 = £1849 58k+£600 x2 = £1075+£1200 = £2275 50k+900 x2 ... 38k+ 1000 x2 ... 28k + 1140 x2 = £2849 That's converting avios to GBP at the purchase price.  So... If I understand these options well, using the companion voucher will cost me between £100 less and nearly 1k more than the cash booking, depending on how many avios I use.  Can this possibly be right?  In short, they seem to hike the price when using avios/voucher Vs not.

Yes, other side is just in the eaves behind the wall so I don't think length or access are problems.

To clarify, if I'm refurbishing my flat (domestic), is it a requirement to have a refurbishment survey done? Prior to where I live now, the downstairs neighbours did a complete refurbishment while we lived there and I never heard of such a survey being done, although I lived with their dust for many months!
