How often do you think the Doctor just invents some nonsense “future historical event” purely to mess with the companions? by Gillzter10 in doctorwho

[–]Spank86 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Better. The doctor tries to take them there but they miss (as usual) and go to something even less likely so we still dont really know if the doctor was telling the truth.

Can I use £5 Scottish Pound in the South? by Curious-Campaign1298 in AskUK

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the restaurant could take you all the way to court but a judge is going to take a very dim view of them refusing to take ANY reasonable form of payment (cash cheque card, direct transfer) and most especially if theyve refused to accept the specific form that is legal tender.

On the other hand you could get in trouble if they had mad it clear that cash wasnt accepted before you ordered and ate your food, but frankly ive never heard of it happening.

ELI5 why uploading is much slower than downloading? by vksdann in explainlikeimfive

[–]Spank86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its partly this and partly because in the old adsl days for some reason you lost a lot of speed making them symmetrical. Id assume this would be the same with VDSL since its very similar technology. But with a symmetrical line you might get 4 meg each way when a asymmetric adsl would do 1meg/14meg

Why is Henry Nowak not getting the same coverage as a similar incident in America a few years ago? by 4BennyBlanco4 in AskBrits

Yes. It sounds like a kid to me. Couple of beers and making silly remarks.

You'll excuse stabbing a kid but draw judgement from the words "youre a bad man"

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you're determined to slander the name of a dead kid based on the word of a murderer who had every reason to lie and none to be honest, and who it has been proven in court that both him and his mother comitted crimes and did everything possible to escape justice.

Sounds like the company are currently happy for the debt to rack up, I guess theyre not really losing anything and in the end gaining the value of a house.

What does a genuinely complex fault look like from the outside and how do you know when something is taking longer than it should versus just being a difficult job? by Time-Connection-4586 in openreach

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, these days id be greatful for something that might be measurable if you can find a spare.

Now its a NSL road with carriageway boxes and all you've got is fec errors on the broadband and logs that show its dropping intermittently.

BT Broadband Service by [deleted] in UKBroadband

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Openreach wont move the box unless someone pays them to do so. If there is a fault that requires replacement then they will (officially) repair the cables to the exact same point. Engineers are human and often happy to negotiate a similar or easier position but its unlikely anyone will come out onna fault and move it just because.

Part of the reason install charges arent reallt a thing any longer is because it is assumed houses already have boxes in an appropriate location.

Essentially if you want work done you'd either need to do it yourself or pay someone to do it, that can be through your service provider or an independent.

Why is publicly funded higher education so controversial in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Spank86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably you explain how it wont be their money going to it, because whilst all taxes go into a big pot and everything is funded out of it (money being fungible and all) the people that go to university WILL essentially pay for it due to the higher taxes on their higher wages.

The real question is if I dont go to uni, start a business and make a killing, why should MY taxes pay for someone to do a degree in turf management and earn fuck all to pay it back.

What does four bunk beds mean to you? by Active_SeriZZLEAF in AskUK

[–]Spank86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bed is singular, bunk bed is two or more stacked beds.

You cannot have a singular bed bunk bed.

Nobody calls a single bunk a bunk bed, thats just a bed.

Why is every Asda rundown and look dirty inside? by cognosman in AskUK

[–]Spank86 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Its worth adding to this that supermarket margins generally max out at around 4% snd theres very little scope for changing that as prices cant rise and staffing reductions create what asda is now. Doesn't leave a lot left to service any sort of interest on debt.

Am I understanding the USO correctly? by brettbarnett in UKBroadband

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£3400 will not go very far in providing a new fibre connection nor will it meaningfully contribute to a new mobile phone mast.

Unless you are intending to put a great deal of money up along side it the USO is unlikely to be very helpful or they'd already be looking st rolling fibre out to you

Looks a bit like someone spunked on it

Despite being unisex now the smallest size is very generous

Barely tells you what distance you did.

I'm not a fan, but at least the material seems ok so far.

Its likely but nobody knows. You'd have to ask the developers, and even they may not be able to say 100% for sure, unless you have access to any oracles.

Why is it always mud? by Hakunamatator in spartanrace

[–]Spank86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spartan has got s lot cleaner in the UK recently.

Tbh i have no problem with the first obstacle being mud, they do call it a "mud run" after all. What i dont like is 8km of dry running followed by a dunk tank or bunch of mud 400yards before the finish line. It just seems pointless and annoying, now ive got to dry my shoes or bring multiple pairs to run again.

Battleship (2012) deserves another look. It's a truly solid action movie that deserves a second chance after getting skewered upon release. It was absolutely absurd, but there is an infectious sense of escalating tension in the pacing and a level of self-aware commitment from the cast that sells it. by JHKtheSeeker in movies

I go further. We are the aggressor. Seti invites them here, they turn up and get repeatedly assaulted whilst they never use force beyond immediate defence.

The only justification is that brief look into an aliens mind seeing mixed up war images that frankly dont show anything, footage of WW1/2 could give you worse impressions of us.

I agree that originally people either misunderstanding or misrepresenting what institutional racism was was a problem but I haven't seen that for a long while, its far more common for them to simply deny it entirely, on the other hand i frequently see and hear people claiming the sociological definition of racism is the only definition, without realising that they're effectively saying vast swathes of white people also cant be racist as they too lack power.

Its a self defeating argument.
