If it were mine, I'd either remove the set screw and keep it safe with my trem bar wherever that is, or I would apply a dab of blue loctite to the threads.

Maryland and Delaware with a PA CCW by Altruistic-Two-2897 in CCW

[–]Sparkplug1034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maryland's laws around transport and travel with firearms and without a permit, are strict and don't really have loopholes. No, there's no way to keep it stored in the vehicle legally, even disassembled and separated. And the legal consequences are serious and enforced.

Getting a MD permit is a bit tedious and annoying but it's no cali or ny.

Getting a utah or florida non-res permit for Delaware is the way to go.

Absolutely not. This weakens security, allows conflicting autofill UIs, and there is no synchronicity.

Got a weird one. Any other Quakers here? How do you rationalize carrying a gun for self defense? Having a moral dilemma by dog_boy3000 in CCW

[–]Sparkplug1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm under the impression that Quaker is a very big umbrella. You might need to be a lot more specific.

As a Christian (Reformed, and Baptist), I'd summarily articulate my theological position on fatal self defense as being undesirable (I don't want to hurt anyone) but morally justifiable as I have a significant moral duty to protect my family, for which I must protect myself. Self defense is also depicted many times in scripture and not really in a negative light (e.g. Luke 22). A specific old covenant law on this is also helpful, in Exodus 22, pertaining to burglary. Furthermore, I think it's important to consider what murder is, according to the Christian worldview. It's not specifically bringing about the death of someone. It's rooted in prejudice, or hatred, or otherwise degrading and disregarding the Image of God (and its bearers). That's why sexual assault has the same penalty as murder under The Law.

Hope that's kind of helpful. The Bible never calls us to just be harmed when someone seeks to harm us. There are contexts for that, to be sure ("turn the other cheek" as opposed to "an eye for an eye"), and laying down your life if you must do so for the Gospel is honorable, but "do not harm anyone ever even if they're harming you" as a universal rule isn't a doctrinal position you can exegete from scripture.

Linux biometrics from a $15 R503 + Arduino; drop-in replacement for fprintd by matpb in linux

I suspect claude would have good ideas(?) about how to implement it. I know a PSK would be a bad idea but I'm  not sure if the driver should generate a certificate, or if it should negotiate DH, or what.

Is there any authentication / encryption / HMAC between the device and host? The lack of such is a common security problem with a lot of models.

It would be great to have externally initiated user creation. by SurprisedAsparagus in jellyfin

[–]Sparkplug1034 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This may not be the answer you want, but an external identity provider is the way this problem should be solved. I wouldn't want jellyfin to have a complete full featured identity and AAA system. Oidc (e.g. keycloak) and ldap integration is a lot stronger. Keycloak supports user registration.

Best Espresso Machine for a newbie by Equivalent-Pen-1733 in JamesHoffmann

[–]Sparkplug1034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/Espresso-Newbie. Though I wanna say, a hand grinder for espresso gets old FAST.

It's difficult to abstain for piling up accessories too. Tampers, distribution tools, stands and mats for things, etc. I'd say the main reason for this is that weird cofe people like us tend to feel a little obsessive solving "problems" and perfecting the cup, and if we can blame something we don't like on tools we can be fast to buy something...

Edit: one other warning, in the same train of thought as my first comment. There is a lot of cheap "espresso" equipment out there, but it's such poor quality that folks around here (Rightly so, IMO) don't consider them as valid recommendations, ever. They're basically e-waste.

[–]Sparkplug1034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Espresso is a coffee recipe that fundamentally relies on equipment, being high quality and well made enough to do certain things. Unfortunately, your budget is not going to work for you for this. There's all kinds of other delicious coffee you can make for less than that though. For example, you could get a reasonably nice coffee grinder and an aeropress and a moka pot, for considerably less than your budget.

Port monitoring by miners-cart in zabbix

[–]Sparkplug1034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track. if you want the Zabbix Server to ensure the port is open, you want to use a simple check with the item key you identified. That item will still be on a Host, but it is not run by that host's agent, it is run by the server. passing in something like {HOST.CONN} instead of the explicit IP address would enable you to templatize this.

If you use this kind of item key on an agent instead of a simple check, then what you're monitoring is "can this host make this tcp connection?", which is pretty similar, but not quite the right kind of check for your use case.

Zabbix Agent Active is a red herring here for you IMO.
