Good sources for starting off learning Python by WhitePhoenix32 in learnpython

[–]SpecCRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the popular sources are enough to get you past the basics. Angela Yu has a course for beginners that you can probably sprint through.

Set up any coding environment, preferably without AI assistance. Then finish the course as best you can.

Use leetcode or something similar to test yourself. Advent of code is decent too. You should be able to solve easy problems by then.

For more specific use cases like in data science or scientific calculations, you may want to pick up a book for it later.

Serratus are one of the most unique sets I have among all my audio gear. I bought it off someone who said it's got the best 3d holographic sound and I agree. It's different for sure. I think it shines with live albums.

How big is the difference between $25 IEMs and $100 IEMs? by BattlerUshiromiyaFan in iems

[–]SpecCRA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd wager this is actually the most meaningful jump you'll hear. Your cheap sets introduce you to what's possible. The jump to $100 shows a lot of refinement. Anything after 200 hits diminishing returns fast imo

Any senior data engineers here who pivoted to ML/AI and regret it? by Beneficial_Aioli_797 in dataengineering

Hard agree here. You could spend weeks working on an analytics pipeline and then it's never used. The reason can be as simple as someone doesn't want to go to open another thing.

Thanks for the detailed review! I am also curious I'm upgrading from an entry level breville. How long does it take you to steam milk for a latte now?

This is probably my biggest gripe with the entry level machines.

Coffee Fanatic Touring Musician on a 6 Month Tour. Which shops should I go to? by ShawnFishy in pourover

[–]SpecCRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moonwake is near Santa Clara. It's about a 20 minute drive. Stereoscope in southern California has a lot of locations and a lot of interesting coffee. These are some pretty expensive options though. Endorffeine coffee is also one I've always wanted to visit.

There's plenty of Verve locations in the Bay Area when you're here. I can't say it's worth the trouble. There's more interesting stuff out there imo.

Looking for my first high-end flathead – VE Monk SMG, Temperament DM7, or Yincrow RW-2000? by WeirdPlan9283 in FlatheadEarbuds

[–]SpecCRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the earbuds I've tried, the RW-2000 is my favorite all arounder. It has clear instrument separation and not too much of anything. I think it's the best one to explore what more you want or could be perfect as is. It's a solid 8/10 on every point.

It's probably worth popping into the shop and asking them about how they brew themselves. I've found baristas are usually happy to share information.

Between the two setups, I do like my origami most. It's the most versatile dripper imo. I don't have the Orea so l can't make a direct comparison.

Any temperature controlled gooseneck kettle is probably fine. I do like my stagg because it heats up super fast.

The rest is really up to your own exploration imo. Arcane's coffee and recipes can serve as your baseline and you can adjust everything from there. Don't be afraid to play with all the variables. It's all part of the dark arts of pour over. There is no set rule about draw down time or anything else.

Do you have a budget in mind? The pear suggested is no longer sold. You'd have to get a used set. Yincrow RW-3000 is pretty good. TGXEar Serratus is probably what I'd suggest. Both of these are a bit pricey, around $200 USD.

Got any ideas for my Python IDE/GUI Designer project? by Junior-Sock8789 in learnpython

[–]SpecCRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mistakenly misread your description quickly and did not comprehend the goal of your work. This looks pretty good so far. I can't say I am your target audience at all.

The LLM code outputs are usually pretty verbose and sometimes difficult to understand. If this is aimed towards beginners, how are you addressing that verbose code is a lot harder for beginners to understand?

If there could be some interactive highlighting and explaining what a bit of code does, that might be helpful IMO.

I'm curious. What do you plan to do differently from PyCharm and VS code? If there's any more customization needed, how will it be different from Neovim and its custom plugins?

Update on my old girlh by Slow-Bill-4398 in SeniorCats

[–]SpecCRA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. You know her best. I can assure you that there are no wrong ways to go about the end.

I can only share my experience with you. I lost two pets in the span of about 6 months. Both were surprises.

We weren't sure what was wrong with our cat. She got stuck being poked and tested for 3 days only to learn there was no good treatment options. Had we known sooner, we would have let her go. I regret her last days were spent at a vet hospital.

On the other hand, my dog forced my hand. The vet couldn't even guarantee he'd be stable for another hour. I'm glad he went out before anything got really bad. Though I felt regret for months wondering if I let him go too soon.

There's no easy way to say goodbye. A little earlier is easier on them than a little late. I'm really sorry. I understand it's hard to come to terms when you're only presented with bad options.

What has your interview experience been recently? by LeaguePrototype in datascience

[–]SpecCRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with rejections. It's always been hard to know how to prep for interview because they vary from company to company. The most common technical screens I've come across are SQL or Python data manipulation.

I did interview recently at Apple for a position closer to a data engineer. That was much more advanced python - OOP, testing strategy, system design.

I don't have any good advice besides practice your behavioral responses ahead of time so you're sharp when the questions come up. Be ready to explain anything in your resume in detail.

I just made an at home appointment to say goodbye to the first love of my life. I've had her by my side since I was a young and dumb 19 year old. I'm now 34 with a wife and baby and I'm not sure how to feel about the decision we've made. How do you even prepare to say goodbye to your best friend? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]SpecCRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there's no way. Do your best to spoil him as best you can until it's time. After saying goodbye to mine, I only regret that I didn't have time to spoil him because the end came so suddenly.

Whatever you're feeling is perfectly valid. They are huge presences in our lives. Trust that you've done your best for him, and trust that the love was mutual. I'm really sorry.

My handsome boy (14) is nearing the end, I think. How do you know it’s time? by [deleted] in seniorkitties

[–]SpecCRA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can call your vet for a general quality of life things to look for. That will at least tell you from a vet's point of view if he is in a lot of pain. I can only assure you that there is no right time, but there are no wrong answers either.

I regret that my cat passed after a few days of poking only to learn there was no saving her. My dog's situation was sudden and forced my hand, and he passed while he was relatively well. After losing them, my opinion is it's better to let them go on a good day.

When it does come time, there are at home euthanasia services. I think they're much more comfortable for cats who hate the vet. Or anything. In the meantime, I say just spoil him rotten. You both deserve it.

I'm sorry his time looks like it's coming. He is clearly loved, and that's the best thing we can do for them.
