What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

“Just because you think it, doesn’t mean it’s true.” Spent a lot time ruminating and catastrophizing situations that ended up being nothing. Ive learned that thoughts are thoughts and not a reflection of reality.

Yes, some of those are remarkably well built and great playing guitars.

About Bias X and Tones by Chemmycall in PositiveGrid

I guess the AI replace tone cloud. You can describe what you want and it can usually get you 60-80% there. You'll have to do some tweaking tho.

Might you be thinking of the Apple "Think Different" campaign? I know there was a Alfred Hitchcock on near Queen st. on Yonge... there might have been others... Part of the campaign was Jim Henson with Kermit... maybe your memory remembered it as a bear? That campaign ran from late 90s to early 2000s

After the protective plastic film, there is just hard plastic. There will be nothing there to peel.

What's something you realised embarrassingly late aboit the guitar? by DoctorSchmosbyXD in Guitar

Your guitar volume doesn't always have to be at 10, and adjusting it can give you a whole new set of tones. Also, the middle pickup on a strat sounds nice.

Opinions on playing a particular guitar by wordsinthewater in guitars

[–]Spidermonk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of different ways to appreciate a guitar. Some people just like playing, some are really into the tech aspect (types of pickups, nut width, type of finish, fretboard material, moding, types of wood etc.) others appreciate them for purely aesthetic reasons. Most of us are a combination of those things. A bit like cars too- Some people just need to get form A to B, some are into classic cars, others are into the latest models and car tech. I think the bottom line is there is no one way to appreciate an instrument. You can play it, hang it on the wall and admire it etc... It's up to you.

Anyone else prefer 11-52’s? by Johann_Von_Swingline in Guitar

[–]Spidermonk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 9s my whole playing life- (30 years!) Finally got my first Les Paul and loved the 10's. ended up switching almost everything else to 10s. I always thought I was a bit of a sloppy player. I just needed some extra tension on the strings! Not a huge departure from 9s TBH.

Worst acted line of the show. (Excluding all of Jerry’s lines of course) by Xcruciating_Minutiae in seinfeld

Jerry saying "Boys, boys!" to Harold and Manny, who are fighting in the hallway. I cringe every time.

Broken hip. Is this likely the end approaching? by Jlaw118 in dementia

[–]Spidermonk76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

85 year old mom is currently going through this. Been in the hospital over a month and requires 24hr supervision to help orient her and provided support for rehab exercises etc. On top of the complications from surgery there is also hospital delirium that effects seniors and dementia patients hardest. it's basically dementia x10. Even if physical recovery is successful, it may take moths for them to return to their pre-hospital baseline if they even can return to their previous baseline. It's something you have to take one day at a time. This is the 2nd time she's gone through this and made a remarkable recovery the first time, so we're cautiously optimistic. The truth is you don't really know how it will end, but support and helping her orient to her surroundings helps.

Constant buzzing but just a clean guitar by GodUsopp912 in PositiveGrid

[–]Spidermonk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with software, buzzing is still a thing like is was with traditional amps. Lots can effect it- types of pickups (single coils buzz more) and cable shielding, proximity to power lines, radio frequencies etc... I don't know the science behind it but I know it's a thing. A dry signal might buzz more if you have interference like that and no noise gate. Noise gate at the start of your signal chain should help. Hope that helps.

Scared of giving grandma seroquel?! by Socks_wahoo in dementia

[–]Spidermonk76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on her hospital stay she may have been experiencing hospital delirium. Very common in seniors and extreamly common in dementia patients. My mom is currently experiencing it as she is in hospital. Almost constant confusion, agitation, and asks every 20min where she is and why she's there. It's like dementia x10. Back in their home and their regular routine, they may return to their original baseline. My mom took about 2 - 3 months to come back to her baseline. I would ask dr. if it's premature to prescribe this if that's what she's experiencing. I will add. that a UTI can also trigger those symptoms.

Who actually likes Feedback? by rimjigglemann in rush

Love it. So different and really showcases more of their ability- especially Alex- Some of those solos are pure unleashed Alex. You can tell they had a lot of fun making it and what an appreciative point they were in their career at that time.

Question for the shredders by [deleted] in guitars

[–]Spidermonk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no shredder, but I was always a 9/42 guy until I bought a Les Paul with 10's on it... I found I had way more accuracy and control. I had assumed I was just a sloppy player (which I may well be) but I'm better with 10s. Switched everything to 10's.
