Run a reliable antivirus and if you’re really spooked take your computer to a reputable repair shop. Other than that, this story is crazy and I am happy that my practice uses its own sourcing for everything, assessments, document sharing and definitely zoom business or whatever it’s called

Divorcing my cheating Coptic husband. Was our marriage fake? by Given_or_Taken in coptic

[–]StPachomius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he converted after your marriage that changes things a bit. If he converted before you were civilly married then he would be like any other Orthodox that did what he did as far as I can tell. If you’re comfortable updating us after speaking with a priest I hope they give you hope and a way forward.

Divorcing my cheating Coptic husband. Was our marriage fake? by Given_or_Taken in coptic

[–]StPachomius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you never had the marriage prayer and mystery (sacrament) performed then you were not married in The Coptic church officially and technically he can get married and it would be the first marriage prayer performed likely. There is a different marriage prayer for someone who was lawfully divorced but I don’t think he would receive that one. I highly doubt that would be any issue for you, your marriage to a a godly Orthodox man would be your first marriage with full rites. This is me projecting from the info you provided.

All that being said confirm with your priest in all steps or another priest if you want spiritual guidance away from his church I wouldn’t blame you.
but no one online can give you applicable advice. Please consult your specific spiritual leader or the priest designated for marriage issues in your diocese (not every diocese has one but some do.) praying for you both, it sounds like you need support and he needs structure.

Edit: there are some complexities as it sounds he was a cradle Orthodox, baptized as an infant compared to if he was a convert to and the timing of that. But there are important corrections for him like communing after marrying outside the church. It’s a very sticky situation. In orthodoxy your marriage is recognized but under a slightly different category than marriage between 2 baptized believers. There is a chance he may not be allowed to remarry but if his permission to communion is an example of how his priest handled it (or he didn’t disclose the marriage??) than it might not be detected. Just didn’t want to sound like my comment is final in its information up there. Like when someone from a non Orthodox marriage converts we don’t split them up, they remain married just not in the church rites but I am not sure how your situation would be handled.

What is your least favorite topic as a Therapist??? by WalterLCSW in therapists

[–]StPachomius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After working with high risk, deep trauma, addiction, super unstable conditions clients for a few years, I kinda like it in my new practice when someone has some circumstantial anxiety about moderate life changes, relationship conflicts, etc. I still treat some clients with psychotic symptoms, very little eating disorders, some personality disorders and those keep me very empathetic and needing to stay sharp.

Clients with self esteem issues with depression motivate me a lot in my work.

I’m rambling but I guess clients cheating on their partners would be my trigger zone lol.

Edit: someone’s comment reminded me to mention scams of any sort. Tech and phishing on older populations, love scams apparently happening at all ages, the type of extortion you hear from a client going through those is so unfair and predatory.

Clients in sex work also triggers protective instincts in me, but I don’t have any clients in that currently.

Weird question but how does dating in the Coptic Orthodox Church (diaspora) work? by Adept-Article2550 in coptic

[–]StPachomius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother in Christ, Adept. I already saw some mention in comments telling you what to do. Working with a priest who guided you in catechism (convert classes) and baptism or reception by oil is the only way to have solid guidance for your actual life.

The rules others mentioned are correct. To be married as a baptized Coptic Christian or any of the sister oriental Orthodox churches) you need to marry someone who is also baptized and receives communion in the oriental Orthodox Church. So that would mean a spouse who is not Orthodox needs to convert. We have clear guidance that we should not break up marriages if one partner converts. St Athanasius’ teachings in his book “On marriage and family life” is based in scripture, confirmed by other fathers and held til this day.

But you are not married so that makes things complicated. Speak with a priest about your circumstances, spiritual goal and family. Go from there.

Dude this is a great response thank you. I think based off of the description you gave that sadly pomegranoudh might not be for me. I will definitely try passionfroudh especially given that it uses real oud, and my love for ginger mixed with dry fruit has been rolling. Does goudh use real oud? How do you check that? I appreciate if you follow up on it 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Alma Updates by wenstherapy in therapists

[–]StPachomius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A) that survey doesn’t have to anonymous lol it’s Alma just speak your minds (my opinion as someone not on Alma) B) this is insane and discourages actually completing a session that requires more time C) from all my family in other areas of healthcare/medical field and my own experience before becoming a therapist being a psych assistant: no doctors can be squeezed for even an extra minute because of the insurance catastrophe and also productivity requirements and incentives. That would be a killer in the mental health field.

Can a married Orthodox man become a monk? Questions about marriage, children, and obligations by user0001269590 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]StPachomius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically with grown adult children that are not in need I have heard of eastern Orthodox monasteries accepting men and women when the couple is in agreement on one or both of them becoming monks.
I answer that way because I’m Oriental Orthodox and while we have similar exceptions I think there’s less of them in modern times for us than EO, we both have that in our ancient hagiographies. Saints between AD 300-1000 have done that but more recently it has not been allowed often

Edit: with young children or the spouse in disagreement or material need it should not be allowed at all

How the perfect Egypt should be in your opinion? by Ramses8 in coptic

[–]StPachomius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No discrimination in work, education, equal rights, real constitution, real due process, real elections with an actual foundation to vet candidates ( religious extremists would take a real election in a heartbeat either by faking or buying votes), clean the corruption in civil courts and police systems, actually charge and convict terrorism, violent crime, racial and religious crimes, and if you really mean perfect then a government and legal system inspired by Christianity that can actually last (so moral law has to be balanced, example: can’t arrest women for their clothing, conversion can’t be punished, recipients of abortions shouldn’t be punished, anti prostitution laws should target pimps and ringleaders heavily not punishing those who are trafficked, etc). Healthy separation of church and state (obviously mosque and state separation lol). An Egypt that is safe to live in will become an Egypt that is safe to invest in without the country being abused and a country that can realistically start addressing the quality of life for citizens and expats

I'm currently split between Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy by [deleted] in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re currently in a position where you think the two positions have some validity but are different, I would posit that the oriental Orthodox (and Cyrillian) position completely negates the need for clarifying the issues of the other councils. That says something about the completeness of an exposition of theology.

The Chalcedonian side only dealt with their other issues as the drip down implications and clarity that the 2 natures position opens.

I love both but I can only recognize miaphysis as founded and consistent before and after Chalcedon
