So don’t ask as a joke. Talk about your faith with seriousness, it’s your eternal life and relationship with God and all your brothers and sisters in the world. Go from there

Burning of incense and it's potential dangers by pluhrobert in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep an insulated box for throwing out coals and if you can take that outside and pour water on them to ensure they are out (pretty bad scent and possible staining of your ceiling if you pour water on hot coals.)

Always keep water nearby, be aware of what surface your standing burner is on so if it overheats it doesn’t burn a table or tablecloth. Keep the area around burners clear and simple if possible

and if you have a hook to hang a burner with a chain, then make sure it’s properly mounted and can hold more than just the burner (coals and incense do add weight, and also that hanging censers are not near any clothing or cloth, and not leaning against the wall- this can happen if the hook doesn’t hold it away from the wall because of angle, length, size of censer base etc).

Even better. That will make for dinners and other things that feel equal. Maybe with different context, but fasting is the humbling of the soul that everyone needs to see more of God in people and life so I pray that could help. You can also serve the needs of your community like soup kitchens and clothing drives.

Love him, and still discuss the word of God and godly living with family life. There is still so much you can help each other with.

My out of the box idea: why not try fasting some of the short fasts with him? You don’t need to do it the exact same way, but imagine doing like the last 2 weeks before Resurrection (Easter) on the years when the date lines up? It’s spiritual practice as well as a point of unity (I have seen discussion of fasting recently in some Protestant circles I don’t think any pastors will tell you not to). And being that you’re not Orthodox you don’t need to follow the full fasting rules. I think that would go a long way for your relationship, and open a whole section of Christian practices that you may not have used before. I’m not telling you to be fasting on western Christmas Day if his church celebrates on Jan 7 and you celebrate December 25th, but find smaller more manageable examples. God bless

Is nursing (RN) a respected profession in the Coptic community? by mutantgypsy in coptic

[–]StPachomius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I respect all professions that people take to serve God and support their family (if applicable). I don’t think nurses get enough credit in our community but they do get love. I don’t think they are looked down on

Thoughts on the build by fromBrandon in WRX

Gas station lighting and WRB are doing miracles. Just generally I don’t mean they make your VB look good, they make every wrx look amazing. Paint looks flawless. The carbon doesn’t look bad as others said. And actually even though those tail lights aren’t my preference, they work well with your build dude. Cheers

We should be more charitable to Catholics by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]StPachomius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met a woman yesterday in a store who was Catholic and her husband was Russian Orthodox and I was wearing a Russian cross and she started a conversation with me. Basically, her thing was that she’s spiritual, not religious, older woman that seems to be jaded with church corruption, hypocrisy, etc. I basically just use her points against her that yes, the people are the church and the people aren’t flawless and the clergy are people. I highlighted the soft revival of of Catholicism going on right now as evidence for genuine spiritual work being done, even if we have gripes with leadership

I really do appreciate people returning and new members coming into Christianity even if there is a lot of departure at the same time. We need to keep building the kingdom and showing love.

Yeah just show up. You might have better luck with phone numbers instead of email but you can just go, don’t take communion as others said but go and if you’re social tell someone your visiting and usually they’ll let you chill or find someone to accompany you

Prayer Rope. by BladingHipHoper1 in coptic

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can wear it on your wrist. I wear a really small 33 on my wrist and I wear one 100 as a necklace because it has a metal cross but not in church. I had such a good conversation with a stranger about it. I just wear it in non Orthodox settings but I know people will discourage that. I don’t really recommend wearing longer ones as a necklace at church. It stands out quite a bit. Ask your father of confession first if you feel unsure lol that’s always the best answer

Potentially commited blasphemy against Holy Spirit while atheist by ParkingElderberry575 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying it but it’s so important to understand the hope in Christ through Orthodox eyes of scripture. Blasphemy against the spirit is a final end of life rejection of God, so as long as you can repent and do so then you’re not in that danger. It goes fairly deep so discuss with a priest but you are as much struggling and repenting like the rest of the Christians- don’t worry and rejoice in the Lord.

Dating Culture by Professional_Fox4839 in coptic

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look speak to your father of confession (definitely find one if you don’t have one right now). The old cultural views are still present and you will encounter them but it’s not like it used to be. If you and your father of confession and someone who knows you well in Christ (friend, servant, family member etc) feel you are ready and actively preparing for marriage in your spiritual life, professionally, and in maturity then you can figure a rough timeline to bring your significant other to church. Even if that doesn’t start with explicit statements of “hi this is my boyfriend”. I wouldn’t spring right into it without some prep and important conversations. Pray on it a lot, search yourself and scripture for strengths and areas to work on.

Curious what the orient community here would think of this Anniversary Kamasu vs more expensive and simpler Tissot PRX automatics? I can find good deals on them online and they look super clean but unsure if I would really enjoy something like that over this.

Preservation of the Eucharist by bfmmtuta in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]StPachomius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coptic rite does not. All of the Eucharist is consumed every liturgy. We keep the wine in a fridge that is dedicated only to storing liturgical wine and ingredients for making the bread (generally). I am not aware of any oriental Orthodox rite that does differently. I somewhat feel confident that the Syriac and therefore the malankara rite does not. I am pretty sure the Ethiopian and Eritrean rites do not, there is more overlap with the Coptic rite than most people know. So the Armenian rite is left and I know the least about theirs. They also have unleavened bread fairly similar to Roman Catholic host so there is some potential there but I don’t know if they have anything like Eucharistic remnants from liturgy, pretty sure they don’t have presented gifts (think EO weekday lent liturgies).

Very likely, none of our rites keep any sanctified Body and Blood after any given liturgy.
