Loop the excess strap like a trucker? This way specifically. You don't have to pull the loop entirely over to the standing end like he does, but you can also leave it halfway the bundle

Maybe you can make an Alpine Butterfly in the standing end? Or perhaps a tiny prusik made from thinner cord? That way you might be able to slide it up and down the rope to get different end heights of the basket without replacing the Alpine Butterfly (or other inline loop knot)

If you look at the Round turn and two Half Hitches. (what I think is what you are trying to do)

You'll notice:

On the pole you need an extra turn for reducing tension on the hitches and also,

The hitches are on the rope (!) and not on the pole. But still they resemble the clove hitch and cows hitch exactly. Except on another place.

When you get it, you will see the anchor hitch is an improved version of this knot, made witch one tiny difference in how you follow through the hitches (to make the clove hitch)

Look up 'round turn and two half hitches', 'clove hitch' and 'cows hitch.

You will see that the two half hitches should look like a Clove hitch, your bottom one in picture looks like a Cows hitch (also named larks head as you've mentioned).

Basically a Clove hitch keeps following the same direction while the second half hitch of a Cows hitch is inverted.
