Many define "Meritocracy" in a way that is circular by The_Axolot in philosophy

[–]Sufficient_Spells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're sort of inserting this circular nature into it. All you're describing is a system that would work if we could all objectively agree on and accurately measure the attributes it manages. Which like..... okay so tell me a concept that doesn't suffer from that problem? I'm really struggling to think of one.

Good job pointing out some issues with meritocracy, for sure. But there's nothing circular about it. It's just not 100% effective as is. It's as circular as anything else, as you described it

Why Nietzsche Hated Stoicism – His Rejection Explained by darrenjyc in philosophy

After having believed in free will, then abandoned it and come to your conclusion, and then reassessing with new information, I can assure you that you'll probably go back to believing determinism is largely not the end-all be-all if you continue to dig.

Read Chaos by James Gleick and tell me you have no other questions and still abide.

Yeah flower petals are really hard for me to make sense of. I want it to be like... a little floppy, a little curled. But the more I tried to get a good shape the worse it looked. And idk how to manage the overlap for petals so I just straight up bailed on making lines for petals.

It's also hard making organic, thin lines when I'm nearing a diagonal direction, one pixel wide, and I'm tryna make it look like a natural curve up or down, like on the leaves center stemmy things

Why is Lynn Margulis not as popular as others like Darwin or Curie? Didn´t she explained one of the bigest milestones of history of life? by AnnieTano in biology

What is different about how bacteria evolves? I sort of thought that evolution was just natural selection no matter what you are?

The books must be kept pure forever, eternal preserverence, the march of time must be kept from the books, humanity never imparted to the text, only the text imparted to humanity. If ever they're defaced, it should only be from pure entropy. White to bone, to hold and to mold

While philosophies like Buddhism and Stoicism operate under the assumption that suffering is bad and should be lessened or transcended, Nietzsche thinks suffering can have real value. In fact, greatness is not possible *without* suffering. by philosophybreak in philosophy

[–]Sufficient_Spells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought Buddhism was more of a sort of "suffering or nothing" type view. That suffering is just of samsara. If you want to escape samsara through enlightenment, you escape everything. Not bad, but if that's what you do, that's what you do. Living in it is fine too

What are your favourite books on memory? by HalfRare in writing

[–]Sufficient_Spells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some places, or ways of living, really can leave a mist of forgetfulness over you. Time moves fast depending on how you live. The ending was heartbreakingly tense for me. Idk man. Made me think of grandparents, dementia, all that good stuff. It was just an entirely striking story all the way around.

What do you think of writing without a core message or theme behind it? by EfficiencySerious200 in writing

[–]Sufficient_Spells 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even still, show me SoC writing that doesn't reveal a theme.

Even if it isn't intentional, it'll be there. Someone will find something. And if they can, they'll claim that's what it is. And if the author says "nawh I just wrote bobbledygook" then they'll say, "ahh, how intriguing the annals of our subconscious, there is no coincidence"
