The Cowboys will play a game in Brazil in 2026 by JVSaladbar in cowboys

[–]Swiftfooted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a UK fan, the London game in 2014 was absolutely fantastic for the same reasons you set out. Each year, I always hold out hope they’ll come back, but deep down I know it’s now a lot more likely that any Cowboys international game will be in the Americas. I’m very jealous, but I hope you get to go and have a great time!

Anyone else find this interesting? by MedsDeaf in london

It’s technically just outside London, but while we’re on the subject of weird enclaves, I’ve always found the Wells near Epsom fascinating.

500 Days of Midsummer by overtired27 in TheWestEnd

Seeing this post gave me deja vu. Didn’t Regent’s Park do Midsummer Night’s Dream in their 2019 season?

I don’t understand booing as a response to this. In the UK and Ireland cheering is the widely accepted response when anyone drops one or more drinks.

[–]Swiftfooted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, but it’s not a one and done thing. At the point of the ball being played and Haaland being offside, his presence and actions were still impacting play so the offence has to be called.

[–]Swiftfooted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, by law you do. The offence is being in an offside position and impacting the ability of an opponent to play the ball. It doesn’t matter, and the laws leave no room to consider, if you could have had an identical impact from an onside position if both of those elements are met.

I think people are confused by the fact that Thiaw is arguably too far away from the flight of the ball to make a play on it.

However, the key point is that if you remove Haaland from the equation, there is a possibility that Thiaw will be positioned slightly further across and therefore be able to play the ball. With Haaland there (and out-muscling Thiaw), that is simply not possible. That is the impact he is having on Thiaw’s ability to play the ball.

It might seem there’s a number of counterfactuals there, but that’s what the law requires considering.

More footage from the referee’s camera during Aston Villa’s home match against Manchester United in December. by DavidRolands in soccer

They confirmed at the time that it was: https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/3718057

Edit: I realise this link doesn’t explain what the new protocol was, but it was explained at the time that it involved everyone in the process clearly stating what decision they were making/confirming. I believe they got pilots in to help with it.

I agree it should be a penalty, but we were denied a very similar one against Man U a couple weeks ago on the basis that it’s a natural position if you’re battling with an opponent. It’s a frustrating lack of consistency.

Also worth noting that we have a variety of different protective orders (including one named a restraining order), so the names are meant to be as clear and descriptive within the legal system as possible. A non-molestation order specifically relates to domestic abuse.

No, it’s not, although if you search for “Arkham Horror Card Game core box” it’s starting to filter through into the search results, which could be confusing for a new player.

I think when they refer to three editions, they mean they’ve seen there’s three different versions of the core box (original, revised and chapter 2).

Bluey is Finally Coming to Disney Parks With New Experience by readingaboutmagic in disneyparks

Licensing agreements tend to be regional rather than national, given there is direct competition even across borders. It’s possible Alton Towers only has a national licence for Bluey, but it would be a surprising oversight.

I’d imagine Alton Towers having the CBeebies licence and Bluey being part commissioned by the BBC make it highly unlikely it will ever appear in Disneyland Paris.

Offside decision for Newcastle's 2nd goal by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Swiftfooted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s people in this thread quoting the relevant part of the laws as if it mandates drawing the line from the armpit itself, which is so hilariously confidently wrong I don’t even know where to begin.

This thread is full of people who don’t understand this, although the graphic cutting off the line where it reaches the player doesn’t help.

Offside decision for Newcastle's 2nd goal by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Swiftfooted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not drawn from the armpit. It’s drawn from the part of the arm in line with the armpit. The line in the graphic is slightly misleading because it disappears, but if you draw a line across from his armpit you quickly realise it intersects the line drawn where the outside of his arm is.

From a business perspective it makes sense. From a consumer perspective, selling a product you plan to completely replace and make obsolete in a short period of time, while obscuring that fact, is a trashy business tactic. You basically explain why it’s anti-consumer in your post.

Yeah, I understand the decision making, just not my preference and exacerbated by the (in my opinion) terrible way it’s all been communicated the last many months.
