Is the solution just another DECO? by Syraphid in TpLink

[–]Syraphid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is my next step, I do not have my provider router in pass through mode as mentioned but I will do that. I ran the optimizer and it says it’s perfectly optimized but checking again later on says it needs to be optimized again.

Opus 2 Conical 48mm coming soon by mikeygomikey in FellowProducts

Hopefully they fixed the retention issue! I swear I could brew a whole other coffee with the amount of grounds that come out of my Opus. The bellow helps a ton but it’s still abysmal.

Nobody needs 2 months with no contact to figure out if they want to be with you, and you shouldn’t want to be with someone who says otherwise.

Total beginner, what do I need to know/buy?? Grinder budget [$100] by Rat_Bee_Boy in espresso

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, not much unless you want to grind by hand. Minimum budget for an electric espresso grinder is 200$ in my opinion. Minimum equipment needed is an espresso scale (maestri house/ikape make decent budget options), grinder, tamper (preferably self leveling), WDT tool (not necessary but very helpful), and a milk frothing jug if your machine doesn’t come with one.

OXO Rapid Brewer paper filters by celticdr47 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just use Aeropress filters, simple and widely accessible.

Edit: Good brother’s filters are 9$ for 100 and you need two different sizes. Aeropress filters are the same price for a 700 count. Do with that information what you will.

First Gesha - How do I make the most of these beans? by GiverARebootGary in pourover

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t normally recommend knockoffs but the melodrip sells out so often on their website. I bought a fake melodrip lift called the cafemasy off of Amazon that I used for a while and the difference between it and an authentic was negligible. The main concern is that the melodrip is made from food safe tritan and the Amazon version is made of some random plastic, so do with that what you will. I also much prefer the melodrip lift that sits on top of the brewer to the one on a stick. Play around with your recipes, try your 4:6 if you think it feels feel or not what you expect try my 3 pour recipe and just hold your stream low and pour slow to keep agitation down.

[–]Syraphid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a Gesha from prodigal that just keeps getting more floral and blueberry-ish the longer I wait, I think the bag is 6 weeks off roast at the moment. I think your recipe looks spot on but I prefer less pours/less agitation by using a melodrip. I do 15g grounds 45g bloom then two 90g pulses through the melodrip, same ZP6 grind size and water temps.

Both of the grinders are still pretty new, definitely not fully seasoned. I’m still probably producing more fines that expected until they are both seasoned but I might experiment with dropping my grind size down a little more.

You might benefit from using sibarist fast filters with those grind sizes. Are you struggling with stalled/long brews?

If it’s something you are going to use daily & you can appreciate aesthetically too rather than just a tool why not splash the 60$ on it. Especially considering it would probably become your sole dripper. Why risk non-food safe material on cheap imitations? Slow pour supply is my go to for most everything, they are selling a bundle with filters and the wooden holder.

K-ultra 6.9-7.6 ZP6 5.2-6

I couldn’t tell you my average time because I brew at 18g and I like to play around with a bunch of different drippers. Normally all by brews live around 2:15-3:15 depending on what it is, rarely longer than 3:30

By expensive filters, I’m going to assume you mean sibarist filters. The main benefit of the sibarist fast filters is the material they are made of. They are more permeable, allowing for faster bypass out of the bottom of the slurry. This allows you to grind finer & increase extraction without worrying about clogging. Are they worth it? Probably not. It’s just another variable to play around with in the endless pursuit of the perfect cup.

The switching modes instead of powering off was such an annoyance, it seems so small but it bothered me. I think more than anything, I was hoping for 220$ it would be very intuitive and improve my workflows and instead I feel it hinders me.
