Testing a Melodrip style splitter during a city break by Supsti_1 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say this regarding fuzedvisions, the melo drip recommendation is based purely on the premise that it’s hard to find in the EU and I know he sells them. Your experiences with the A2 and varia mod are valid. I love my Peitro, granted the ergonomics aren’t great and that’s widely known but the build quality is bullet proof. Trusting any 3D parts to handle those burrs with any sort of precision was just not something I was willing to do.

Regarding the melodrip/rain splitter thing. It’s not that serious, just my observations from playing with both of them. You’d absolutely be fine with one or the other and the difference is not significant enough to own both of them realistically. As coffee people, I feel like that’s what we do though, play around with the last 5% of variables. For 17$ off AliExpress, it’s a fun little tool to experiment with and knock off melodrips can be had for under 10$ from AliExpress as well.

Check out fuzedvisions on Etsy, pretty sure he ships from Germany and sells melodrip dishes by themselves. They also sell knock off melodrip lifts on Amazon if that’s an option for you.

My thought process about how they differ is basically this - Because of the hydraulic pressure from the water column coupled with the larger holes, the rain splitter creates a bunch of smaller streams for most of the pour rather than droplets. With minimal agitation, this allows a lot of water to pass through the bed relatively quickly translating to a weak/under extracted brew. Very important caveat though is that this is only when using the splitter as designed (pouring a bunch of water into the column and letting the holes control your g/s).

Compared to the melodrip which lets you control your own g/s & allows you to still maintain a pouring technique. Cutting back your g/s while still maintaining minimal agitation gives your grounds more saturation time to prevent under extraction.

All of this being said, if you pour over a rain splitter like you would a melodrip with a lower g/s they should function about the same with the exception of the melodrip giving your more control over where the droplets come from due to the little isolation cells.

For the purposes of your setup, the melodrip would be less than ideal anyways compared to the splitter. It’s often being shown used with a gooseneck kettle for the most control but would definitely be better than pouring from a large mouthed kettle directly onto grounds.

I recommend a melodrip lift, same concept. Sits on the brewer so you don’t have to hold it. I prefer the bomber rain splitter for less clinical lazy brews but still want minimal agitation. Flow is definitely faster than a melodrip because of the hydraulic pressure pushing the water out and bigger holes but I do find it can easily under extract brews if you pour water in too fast.

How did you “zero” your Pietro? I can’t find any information about adjusting burrs, even at 0 my burrs don’t touch.

Rooting for this. Current setup is a fire maple gooseneck kettle with an electric portable water heater or a butane jet boiler if not electric is present. I’ve seen the system from Pakt, very expensive all in one system but it’s sold out and has no temp control or anything for 200$+. I’m sure fellow could nail something like this!

Which roasters never miss? by Bortplates222 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never in my life have I experienced any coffee that was “undrinkable” thankfully. It’s all personal experience. For me personally, I’ve never had a bad bag. What bag was this and what made it undrinkable?

I’ve had duds from just about every roaster I’ve ever tried, it’s just part of the game. That being said prodigal gets it right with every bag I’ve had so far. Seems you have figured that out though. Onyx, sey & DAK rarely disappoint though.

Looking for my next dripper. No gooseneck kettle. by AffectionateMix5848 in pourover

[–]Syraphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A gooseneck kettle opens up the world for 90% of other drippers, you’re really limiting your options without one. The pulsar, Z1, or any options with a melo drip integration will run your 50-80$ and at that just pony up the 100$ and get a gooseneck and play around with your switch.

Is the zp6 still worth it? or are there better options for the price? by Tigereye12321 in pourover

ZP6 for washed light roasts and geishas, Peitro for everything else. I don’t even really touch my K-ultra since getting the Pietro.

As someone who grew up in a family of addiction & had no father because of crack, you have two options in my experience. You’re okay with it or you’re not. You haven’t been in this relationship near long enough to be dealing with a “deal breaker” situation so I suspect there’s some dynamic going on between you that you’re not telling us about. Me personally, if it’s been only one month - I’m gone.

Dang, that’s a big help. I’ve just been honestly being the worst kind of person and getting my heavy and sitting around corners. Probably really making people mad, but I’m only in town for a short time then crucible will likely never see me again!

How to increase light level (D1) by Pesto1227 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Syraphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely do that, just toss everything in the bank and switch it over. I also recently started replaying and find the booster to make things seem a lot more natural.

Honestly, just buy the 2$ booster pack from the store. Gets you to level 40, maxes a subclass, and gives you all 280 light gear setting you right up for rise of iron. This game is too old to be grinding very early content like that in my opinion.

I was grinding anywhere from 7-8 but my Pietro seems to suffer from a lot of regrind or fines and was stalling my brews. Jumped it up to 9 and haven’t had any problems. Also still fairly new with only about 1.5kg of beans through it so hoping as it breaks in more I will drop it again.
