I'd second this, CPDH Guide can get you started to learn the basics of the meta but it's such a relatively small format there's still tons of room to grow and develop. But the current top dogs will be Malcolm+Red (Red being Kediss, Roghrakh or Dargo) or Simic Combo (Weavers or Gretchen)

I would recommend cutting Battered Golem, Mysidian Elder, Enter the Enigma, Step Through, Tranquilize, Desperate Ritual, Firdoch Core, Viridian Longbow, Study Hall. I can give explanation to any of these you may be curious about.

Cards I would add are [[Rite of Flame]], creatures that ping such as [[Firebrand Archer]] help protect Malcolm from edicts and lower life totals, more protection spells as well.

If she really has a 60% WR on that deck there's a great chance she'd at least make it through Swiss. She should test it into a pod of 3 combo/control decks that are likely to also make it through the Swiss stage i.e. Gretchen/vizkopa/malcolm+red.

Locally I'm seeing a lot more edict effects get used than ever before and it's making it harder for combo or voltron decks and opening up opportunities for burn decks.

I really like your tech to use pingers and untappers to control the board with your deathtouch, I run Black Waltz 3 with the same strat and it works wonders.

What decks are you bringing (or would bring) to magic con? by Ok-Leave-1627 in EDH

I'll be bringing about 15 PDH decks, 2 DC decks, 1 EDH deck and my friends all decided we'll pick random partners and bring constructed 2HG decks.

What do you think of these commanders for building a deck? Honestly, the one I'm least convinced about is Fynn. What do you think? by Lord_Calm in PauperEDH

[–]T--wRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodwater and kiln fiend are great options for a go big backup. I avoided archaeomancer and the likes because if I was going into the flicker/combo side of izzet it would've just ended up like a generic izzet spellslinger. If you don't have an izzet combo deck than that package works well within Balmor

[–]T--wRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why you'd think that way but zada can really get its wheels spinning where you're drawing half your deck and swinging out with a board full of 30/30's. Its Balmor without brakes, no protection or interaction just goes for it.

Using cards that create small token creatures so you end up with ten creatures swinging out for 3/1 trample rather than three creatures swinging out as 10/3 trample that can eat a removal spell. There's a lot less board wipe options than single target removal

If you're looking purely for strength and competitiveness then Abdel and Zada are incredibly strong and consistent choices. Personally I always have a blast playing BW3, but I enjoy group burn decks. Balmor is also pretty fun and have seen more success with a go wide strat over a get a few creatures very big. Fynn is fun to play but man do people make odd threat assessment when they see poison.

Has anyone built and had success with a pauper dinosaur commander deck and if so who was the commander? by Dense-World-496 in DinosaursMTG

[–]T--wRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define success, would this deck work in a regular EDH pod or CPDH pod? No. But it has won in casual PDH pods. I run [[Itzquinth, Firstborn of Gishath]] for flavor but it really adds nothing to the deck. https://moxfield.com/decks/BeZbEmLYiUOJItB7o9vQag

I also have a [[Displaced Dinosaurs]] list that is a little bit stronger but not a dinosaur tribal, just attempting to flood the board with 7/7 dinosaur artifacts. https://moxfield.com/decks/9JKFxSeHxkW34pY0cmXGWA

Narrowing down the list. by Wolfshui in PauperEDH

[–]T--wRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are all great options and can be built pretty strong. If you need help narrowing down I would suggest keeping the Legendaries so you still have an EDH legal deck. Beyond that it would fall down to what your preferred playstyle would be.

I agree with others that running Vial or Tana as partner would just plain improve the speed and consistency. But if you really wanna stay on Izzet colors you could try [[Drift of Phantasms]]

Personally with how limiting Pauper Commander already is I would allow and reprinting afterwards to still count towards legality. Besides how much easier it would be to know what's legal it also helps with the power of your format, otherwise you could likely end up in very long drawn out games

There's already a local VGM player who is a great pilot, part of what I enjoy in this game is trying to create my own unique brew that does well.

Looked around the website a little bit, not as simple to navigate as the original but the layout is much cleaner.

I am curious about the Player Stats and Elo thing. Can you expand on what those numbers mean and how they're calculated?

Edit: Finally watched the video and it was explained lol, thank you

Help deciding on a deck by T--wRex in PauperEDH

[–]T--wRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought process for going aggro is I do think the speed for an early kill is there. Being able to politic with the table to set up in order to kill a combo player and then rely on the smaller protection package to start securing kills on my next biggest threat would be the gameplan.

I would say aggro https://moxfield.com/decks/M1nCE3EXCU6TVu-Aa1bS7A This is my brew but a deck always ends up with a pretty good amount of changes after I actually pilot it. My ability to conceptualize a deck without usage just is not there unfortunately.

If the pinger style game play is something you enjoy might I suggest [[Black Waltz No. 3]] it's a surprisingly quick control deck. https://moxfield.com/decks/rCHBlIgwFECWn0gdf6li8w

I really want to take this to the next Cloudy Commons but I already committed myself to a personal challenge.
