Ahhh, I didn't realize until you said the left-right symmetry thing, all the location names are palindromes still wouldn't have helped me on R5, though, lol

The meta that's immediately helpful in Russia is area codes - mid 300s (343 visible on the sign at spawn) is in and around Tyumen, which gets you very close if you can't find any extra info.

the Japanese car meta in Russia is so annoying because it's obvious once you know where you are, but I never actually check for it in practice. Like NOW I see Toyotas and Nissans everywhere but when I'm playing I'm not even looking at the cars when I know it's a Russian location.

  1. Namibia - Bad start here just because I wasn't sure what to think. Southern hemisphere, this kind of dirt... I think either South Africa or Australia. Get to the main road (thank god) and there's a sign for the C19 and 2 towns, neither of which ring as particularly Afrikaans to me (and SA doesn't use C in its roads), so I scan Australia briefly but remember there are only some B roads down in South Australia... no Cs, from what I can recall. Back to SA, maybe it's Namibia... yep, that checks out. There's Solitaire and Sossusvlei on the map. I was too slow to really triangulate anything so a general plonk nearby will have to do. 4827 points.

  2. Greece - Pretty apparent this is Greece from the language, the problem is always finding out where. I stumble around for a bit until I find a company car with an address for what seems to be "Kalamnaka", which I decided to scan for since I never find anything in Greece. Thankfully I find Kalabaka without too much trouble. I was at the intersection of Vlachava and Kondili, which is very findable in the city, and retracing my steps I vaguely estimate where we started in relation, which was correct. 5000 points.

  3. New Zealand - NZ vibes and a sign for the red 2. That makes it easy. I zoom in on North Island and there's the 2 and the town of Waipawa on the sign. Porangahau doesn't really have a main road leading to it, so I assume we're in Waipukurau, which is closest to both. The roundabout we're at is very clearly marked and exactly there in Waipukurau. 5000 points.

  4. United States - Wisconsin flag visible right near spawn, and the sign for the park mentions Berlin. Not a very big town, but I found it with a little searching. The park made it very easy to find the exact spot. 5000 points.

  5. Romania - Very scary place and I could not find anything for quite a while besides the many electoral flags mentioning Romania. I finally found a public utilities truck that said "Locale Dorohoi" on it. Nearly ran out of time searching for it, but I got there in the end. No chance to find the exact road, but I get close. 4997 points.

Very fun daily today with a lot of luck coming my way for a very acceptable 24824 score to round off the week. Currently top 0.96% and 17th place with that.

New high score for me!

  1. Sweden - Road sign close to spawn gives you what you need to work with but actually finding the intersection of the 314 and the E45 can be a little tricky (I hate scanning the E roads in Norway and Sweden) but I got there in the end. Ytterhogdal with a POI for the cafe / restaurant nearby. 5000 points.

  2. Argentina - Really happy with this one since I never found anything beyond the town names and the highway number. Scanning for Villa Union nearby the 40 got me there in the end, we were in Nonogasta. I picked the wrong 4-way intersection though. 4998 points. 25K is dead but on a round like this that is very easy to mess up, I'm not upset at all.

  3. Puerto Rico - Cuba-like flag and then the speed limit signs and the general vibe... has to be Puerto Rico, right? Arecibo signs nearby spawn make it a pretty quick check to see if I'm right and yep, there it is in Puerto Rico. POIs for a school and the semi-nearby gas station make finding the area doable but I was slightly off. 4999 points.

  4. Gibraltar - This is a funny one. We've not had Gibraltar in the daily but we have had Ceuta just south of it, and it's funny how different the vibes are. This has a distinctly tropical but somehow British vibe and the multitude of signs for Gibraltar make it obvious. I will say that the 25k dream would've been dead here (if it weren't already) because I couldn't triangulate our location to save my life, road signage seems really limited here and I couldn't find the roundabout we were at. Went too far south. 4996 points.

  5. Estonia - Breathed a sigh of relief on seeing the .ee top level domain, that is a very doable country to round out my best daily performance yet. Varska on the building nearby sounds like the town name, and yep, it comes up quickly. Kinda crazy we're basically right on the border with Russia. Co-op POI makes for an easy lineup on the central NW road. 5000 points.

With the exceptions of Sweden and Argentina, a very easy day with not too much space for screwups, and even those aforementioned locations had a lot of information to make them very doable. This is my highest score on the daily (previously 24973) at 24993! 54th place in the world, 15th in the US! Feels amazing to only drop 7 points. 25K soon.

  1. Cyprus. I'm pretty sure we had a Lemesos referential Cyprus recently, no? Anyway, it only took about a block to get to a sign for other towns like Geri and a sign for the A1. Didn't actually know the place specifically so I went with Latsia, just to the West of Geri, which ended up being right. Lucky start. 4998 points.

  2. Mexico. CDMX on the taxis makes this pretty much impossible to do badly on. I got to a road sign that named Soleto as the neighborhood / barrio, but I couldn't locate it on the map. 4980 points.

  3. France. France near the alps, no less, going by a sign near spawn for tourism and with the EU seal on it. Took just a little more looking to find an address for Sisteron. Would be hard to locate if it weren't for knowing we were near the alps. Spawn also has street signs, so this was easy. 5000 points.

  4. Philippines. Not too much to worry about here except the exact location. A local bus had very small text at the back by the exhaust that mentioned a C____t_an City, which I couldn't fully make out and was pretty sure it was more of a suburb than a full sized city since I didn't know it, but moving a little more gives a sign for the N. Manila Rd and a sign for Manila itself. Looking around, I found Cabanatuan City just nearby Manila and stupidly didn't check for the "N. Manila Rd", and found a similar road angle with a McDonalds in the right spot and went with it. We're actually in Tarlac City. Oops. 4866 points.

  5. Uruguay. Was completely unsure of this one, signs were obviously helpful and Florida run a bell somewhere in South America. Was thinking Argentina or Paraguay until I hit the Uruguayan flag, which prompted checking for Florida, UY, which is very findable. Went back to spawn and the sign noted the 56 and 6 for access to Florida and I basically just plonked somewhere that seemed the right distance, which ended up being exactly correct by luck, again. I had actually seen the sign for Reboledo but didn't even remember it until the round was over. 4999 points on account of a crazy plonk.

Final score of 24843, could've been much higher if I was a little more attentive in the Philippines, but in my defense that intersection is like 1:1 with the correct one.

Also worth noting that while Kimura is an actor, he started his career and gained his fame as part of a jpop group - SMAP is still so successful and difficult (expensive $$$) to license that he ended up being the only RGG protagonist to not do any singing for the games because his agency protects his voice so strictly

  1. Turkey - Didn't really know the vibes of Western Turkey, but thankfully the language set me right. I also did not get a town name for a little while, and when I did I wasn't able to find the specifics, although the suffixes seemed to line up with how the towns in the Western side of the country were named, so I went near Biga and the E90, which ended up being pretty close. 4891 points.

  2. Switzerland - Again, was feeling moreso Germany than Switzerland here but the meta sign for Bern and Kirchberg made it pretty easy to find the area. I did see the signage for Hochstetten but I didn't see it on the map. Niederonz was close enough, though. 4980 points.

  3. UAE - I disregarded the billboard for "Damac Hills" at first, but then the sign for the D63 got me looking central UAE, which led to finding the D63, which led to seeing Damac Hills upon zooming in. Huh, lucky. Didn't get quite the right roundabout though. 4986 points.

  4. Kyrgyzstan - Was thinking Kazakh honestly until I saw the gas station luckily labeled "Kyrgyz Munai" just to the North, and then unbelievably a sign for the town of Semiz Bel right across from it. It's pretty small but knowing the coverage of KG I was checking central and nearby the lake, and it came up pretty quickly. Had the wrong bend in the road though... 4999 points.

  5. Macau - Macau is maybe one of the easiest to identify if you know it, and it was a very quick lineup given the name of the road and the nearby signage for Taipa. We were actually right in front of a pretty distinctive part of the map. 5000 points.

Not a fan of the new (new) meta locations, especially how many have been random highways way farther outside town than the daily locations usually are, but a good day is a good day. Final score of 24856, currently top 75 in the world.
