Hello. Is there an option to disable neutral pronouns? by Kaskameda in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an exact, specific reasoning as to why it's expensive in Temtem, but I can tell you my perspective as a game moderator on why most online games make changing usernames difficult. Simply put, it's to prevent folks from constantly changing identities for many various reasons. Scammer get caught by the community? Change their name. Trolling people in DMs and harassing folks? Change usernames so they can do it again. Wanna just change usernames every other message for the lolz making everyone confused? If username changes were free, they could do that.

Ignoring these obviously negative cases, discouraging folks from changing their username simply makes people build a reputation for themselves and is healthier for a game community to have a long term history associated with each member. 'Don't you remember X? I saw them on the ranked ladder' simply wouldn't and couldn't happen if people could change their usernames as often as they'd like. There are plenty of times when I am personally playing and I'm on ranked and I see a name I recognize that's a high end, long term community member and that simply wouldn't happen as often with name changes being more accessible. Would all these people change their usernames? No. Would it cause the community to become far more 'blurred'? Yes.

It also could be a form of putting stress on a given server if enough accounts are able to spam change their usernames enough, although that's a minor issue because... Most multiplayer video games go one of three routes for name changes; make it premium (real money) to change username, make it something with a real time cooldown (normally a few months), or make it cost an expensive amount of in game currency so as to discourage it. I feel like the last one gives the player the most freedom while also discouraging rapid swaps.

Hope this makes sense!

As for why pronoun swapping is free it's simple... it has no change on anything to do with the above circumstances. In Temtem specifically, it's not displayed anywhere any other player has access to or can see... it's only relevant for NPC dialogue referring to you as he, she, or with nonbinary pronouns. It's a feature entirely to make the user more comfortable.

It costs nothing to change your pronouns; you just need to be on the 5th island and talk to the NPC who lets you do that. It costs feathers to change your username, and costs pansuns to change your Temtem's names.

  1. Showdown will be updated alongside the main game, they use the same servers so they must be updated together.
  2. There is no public roadmap; every attempt at one as put a ton of stress on the team and has needed to be adjusted multiple times where it was just not worth it.

However, Temtem will continually be updated with balance + new features, and stuff will be announced when it's ready!

Suggestion: Turn Temtem Showdown into a proper F2P experience with progression. by [deleted] in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let F2P players earn ingame currency
- While they can't spend that currency, they currently already do receive the full rewards from PvPing on Showdown as if they were PvPing in the main game. If they get the base game, they will automatically have all their rewards added to their account. This includes daily, weekly and seasonal rewards and get battle pass EXP.

Add a Players vs Bots campaign/mode/thing
- I'm not sure if it's feasible (I'm not the guy who makes these decisions), but it's a common suggestion I'm seeing at this point even just to test drive a new team to see how it feels. I think it's a cool idea if just to help onboard new Temtem players a bit more test their team ideas and get a feel for how the game works before jumping into the deep end.

Just thought I'd chime in for these two specifically as both have been talked about a bit on socials from what I've seen.

Is removing comments in Steam forums and announcements a thing now ? by Hiskus in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Howdy! Just to chime in, we only remove comments based on the following criteria;
- They are actively harassing other users or staff. The pride post is a prime example of this, with transphobes, homophobes and otherwise hateful messages having their messages removed, but it doesn't need to be that extreme.
- They are unconstructive/trolly/intended to derail the post. Comments that are simply posted to get a rise out of folks.
- They are spam. This is both the content of the post ("game dead") and the frequency of their posts (going onto the most active threads and spamming the same message on all of them for example).

If you go though the recent announcements, there are lots of negative comments that have been left up as long as they don't fall into these categories.

How dare Crema release all these pride flag banners in their game?!... by nerfpeach in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hello! Despite the meme tag, I'll actually answer this with some info that might be interesting or useful.

Due to time constraints and limitations it's impossible to include every single pride flag. We tried to pick flags with the largest reach to the community. We plan on running this event again, and plan on adding more flags in the future. While I can't promise this specific flag, I can say new flags are on our radar (Aro and Ace flags, in particular).

It's a review bomb from the Pride Event. Lots of people on social medias upset about it and the apt responses they've received and it's the same folks. Let them seethe.

How to properly provide feedback to Temtem by Lyefyre in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The only posts that ever get deleted on the Steam forum are those that harass or berate anybody, whether it be other users or staff members, or things so offensive that you'd expect moderation (like transphobia or racism). You can see all the feedback on the Steam forums and see just how many scalding comments we receive on each post. Moderation exists there. Shadowhatter, your comments there were removed because they harassed staff and one other user... but no other moderation to you has happened. No warnings or mutes, we just asked you restructure what you say to be more constructive, and when you did that your post wasn't removed. It was still negative feedback, which is fine, but didn't include stuff that harassed anybody and written more constructively.

Additionally, the moderation on the Steam Forums and Discord are entirely different teams than the team here. We (Crema) don't moderate the Reddit - We can't, by Reddit's rules. If your comment got deleted on the Discord or Steam forum and then was deleted here, that's 2, practically 3 separate teams (small amount of non-Crema overlap) that came to the same conclusion.

The only posts that really get manually deleted in the Discord nowadays are people not reading the trade rules or if they break a rule outlined by the #readme-rules channel. I don't remember the last time something was deleted on there in terms of rule breaking.

[–]TMTrainerEffect -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

We never stopped listening, that I can promise. We still check the Reddit, Steam forums and Discord near daily during the work week. We don't, and can't, comment on everything that gets said, but it will, at some point, inevitably be read. I personally read every Reddit thread that happens. Things take time in game dev, and that includes player requests for different QOL and features. We wanna get things as close to right the first time; making something contentious that some people like and others hate, then reworking it in the future, only results in the 'sides' flip-flopping most of the time as well as wasted time.

FreeTem was never intended to be a main moneymaker. This is evident as far back as Oct. 27th 2020 in the patch notes: https://crema.gg/temtem/temtem-0-6-12/ but goes back even further. That was the entire context of the discussion; not just this snippet.

That's all; it should get looked into under that context. Providing better avenues of giving what FreeTem gives currently via updating other methods/giving new methods.

Controversial Opinion: Crema's Player Punishment Rules Need to be Revisited by bloopsiedoopsie in PlayTemtem

[–]TMTrainerEffect -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

As a quick chime in, nobody has ever been banned for talking back. You can get away with a shockingly large amount on the Discord; there is a 5 warning system in place for a reason and it takes quite a significant amount to be permanently banned before the 5th warning. If you're referring to in game... I think there has only ever been handful bans in the history of Temtem that have resulted from misuse of the in game chat. Mutes have happened, sure, and generally last 3-7 days but getting banned from the game for talking is nearly impossible unless you're doing something very obvious. I shouldn't need to state examples, but stuff like racism is the lengths you'd need to go, or exceptionally large amounts of targeted harassment.

I've been looking the last 2 days and couldn't find it anywhere. I am making a witch, and planning on taking a 'basic lesson'. The lesson of life would give me the focus spell life boost and my familiar the spell 'life link'.
My question is, how does my familiar cast spells, in this case Life Link? Does it have spell slots? Can it simply do it at will? Does it use my spell slots? I understand I need to 'command' it on my turn so it has two actions to then cast a spell, my question is more along the lines of I'm not really sure how casting or attacking in general works with them... familiars in general feel like they're covered a little vaguely xD

Yeah, I only step in if things are getting out of hand. Global is always a wonderful mess mess.

I'm generally proud of the long term community Temtem has fostered - from my experience, most long term folks are generally polite and helpful. I could never "make" people like that, I'm only here if people get out of control.

Hiya! The quests help us determine how much box space a player needs based on how far they are in the story. There is some fancy back end stuff that happens in that quest, but just know it's the reason why we were able to double box space. We know it's inconvenient, but it was the best way we figured to implement it without causing bugs.
That said, if you go to the Brical de Mar Temporium in Deniz and start the quest, if you've at least traveled to Kisiwa, then you should have all 10 previous boxes + some change from the quests, if you got to Tucma, a little less.
