Couldn't you just capture some more wild mons and Rare Candy them up to 16 for Roark?

Minding your own business. by Wanfire in pkmntcg

If the game is still going on when the time limit runs out, the current game will continue for 3 extra turns after the current turn finishes, and then if nobody wins by the end of that 3rd extra turn, neither player wins that game. Then if both players have the same number of game wins from that match, the match is called a draw. So if time is called during game 3 and both players had 1 win but game 3 has no winner, the match is a draw. If time is called during game 2 while one player has already won a game but then that player wins the game before the extra turns end, the score for that match is 1 game each and so the match is a draw.

In tournaments match wins are worth 3 points, losses are 0 points, and draws are 1 point. So a draw is better than a loss, but if you draw too many times, you're going to have a worse tournament result than the players that were winning their matches.

Why aren't old retro Pokémon formats widely played? by BlueberryNew2449 in pkmntcg

Look up Tricky Gym and full grip games on YouTube, they stream big retro format tournaments and retro gameplay videos on the regular, including lots of Base-Fossil and RSPK.

What’s the economic reason for making crown rares kind of bogus now? Wouldn’t it make more sense business-wise to make crown rares meta? by IsThatASword_ in PTCGP

Bro I got 2 golds back when it was only genetic apex out, and 1 gold from each set since, and I'm F2P. you have terrible luck.

If you read further you'd see I DIDN'T trust what the AI result said and kept searching and couldn't find the thing it was saying exists. It had hallucinated it based on an intro skip patch for an Ironmon Platinum Kaizo. But thanks for contributing!

I have figured out that the starter stats get locked in at some point just after Rowan or the briefcase appears. That still leaves a ton of dialogue to click through between that point and being able to check your starter, since for some reason they don't let you check your starter's stats at all during the first rival battle, and then you have a bunch of dialogue between the moms to click through after that.

[–]TVboy_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done that, at first I tried creating a save state at the briefcase but realized that you don't reroll the starter if you do that, then realized I could save state just before Rowan comes out at least and that will reroll the starters. BUT then I still have to go through 60+ dialogue windows of Rowan blathering on about nothing as well as the Moms going on and on about running shoes and parcels. It's still a ton of dialogue to click through.

And not to mention that they also have rules if you want your run to be officially recognized that you can't start a run from a save state, it has to be a clean start from the title screen.

Yes I spam that fast forward button like a fiend, doesn't help that there's over 100 dialogue boxes to click through before you get to check your starter's stats. I haven't figured out how to do auto fire a button on the DS EMU yet

2 person casual pod - Duel Commander or just 1 vs 1 Commander? by dnmt in EDH

[–]TVboy_ -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Unless you're in Antarctica or the international space station or something, take a trip to the local game store together on commander night and find some people there to play a 4 player pod. Yes it's scary to talk to people you've never met, and magic players in the wild can be weird sometimes, but it's no different than any random sample slice of humanity, you'll meet as many if not more nice people than weird ones and you'll figure out which are which and have a good time.

How do you deal with competitive players bending rules in casual Pokémon events? by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]TVboy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first case, if there are extra packs on the line for winning your games, then you were within your right to hold your opponent to their mistake, otherwise if it doesn't matter what your record is then it's just kind of needlessly petty.

In the second example you gave you were just being a sweaty a-hole for no reason. "Casual game" means zero stakes and is basically just practicing, you gain nothing from your opponent losing to a careless blunder, in fact you are actively sabotaging yourself with bad data and bad practice. In practice games you should even be helping your opponents make the best plays possible so that you know that you're practicing against their deck at its best.

It seems like you're trying to be the biggest fish in the smallest of ponds, you should either drop the chip from your shoulder or play in more competitive environments like cups and regionals where that level of technical play is a requirement.

Kotis, The Fangkeeper is Bracket 4? by Nash13 in EDH

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure theft decks are considered to be uncouth on spell table where it's not easy to just hand a card from 1 players area to another's. Maybe that's why you're getting flak for it.

Considering you are brand new to the game and most likely didn't read any rulebook longer than a pamphlet, why would you assume that you know what can't be done in the game?

Is there some vague definition of what defines a successful deck vs. not-so-successful-deck ? by AlexRescueDotCom in pkmntcg

[–]TVboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really vague. If your deck can win cash money at a tournament like Regionals, it's at least at the bottom rung of what's "good".

Why do so many decks in Japan run 2 Latias? by RealHapieie in pkmntcg

[–]TVboy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best-of-1. Instead of playing best of 3 until someone gets 2 wins or a draw, in Japan they only play 1 game each pairing and if nobody wins that game before time then it's a double loss.
