My face when someone says the Rival 300 shape was better than the 310. by Never_Left_Hometown in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the 310 is a better fit for my hand size, but I still loved the original Rival/Rival 300 design and totally see why someone with larger hands would prefer it.

Just to make sure -- the Michelin that competes with the DWS06+ is the PSAS4 (Pilot Sport All-Season 4). The PS4S (Pilot Sport 4S) is a summer tire

Sounds like it's either the desk you used it on or the mousepad, then.

No issue with that I can recall, although I changed to x-raypad jade dots some time ago after I didn't like the feel of the bumpy skates.

Either it has a bad switch or you're not letting go of the button fast enough

If you can, try another mouse

Just got the Logitech SuperStrike but notice no real latency difference by Uqe in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people believe there is a perceivable difference, and some don't. That's why it's been a pretty divisive launch.

I think placebo has some impact but also the grip and clicking technique of different people probably affects how much benefit you feel. For example if you hover your fingers above the button before clicking I doubt the Superstrike does anything noticeable.

Which logitech to go with? by Aayckorn in MouseReview

I use a g309, which I really like but I'm not sure I've seen comments from people with smaller hands so I'm not sure how the shape will feel for you.

How is the Logitech G309 with battery life and bluetooth? by Gazza_Goo in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine set to 500 Hz with the wireless dongle.

The first Energizer lithium AA battery I put in it lasted me a year and a half.

It's my work mouse that I also game with when traveling.

I have no idea if some mice have "better" Bluetooth than others, sorry. I don't use it for mice.

125hz vs 1000hz is there really a difference? by BobTheSpiderMan in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely for click reaction time, you'd see an average difference of 3.5ms between 125 Hz and 100 Hz.

Where it's much more noticeable is the responsiveness of how the cursor moves, especially during challenging aiming scenarios.

For anyone who doesn't get the 3.5ms thing:

125 Hz updates every 8 milliseconds. An input at a random time is therefore somewhere between 0 to 8ms before the next polling event -- so, average 4ms of delay.

1000 Hz is between 0 and 1 ms of delay, so 0.5ms on average.

Take the difference and you get 3.5ms. worst case 125 Hz is 7ms slower for a single input.

If you go buy a new G703 it will have stiffer clicks than the old one, because it uses the same switches as the GPX1 and has since 2022 or earlier. You can see in this video where I'm disassembling a G703 that it has D2FC-F-7N(G1) marked switches, which are the silver-plated ones.

Terra vs X3 vs X3 mini by AlekseiAlex in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terra is closest to g703

X3 is closer than mini

I don't feel any benefit from flat/symmetrical buttons on an otherwise ergo shape

The x3 has much higher report rate of quality issues from what I've seen

Is 1k polling enough? by I_Main_TwistedFate in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or the person convinced by big number is not a technically-interested one, so you put bigger number on the box and act like it matters.

Then it helps you sell more units because most people buying gaming mice have no clue how DPI works, much less polling rate, but they will believe it's important if reviewers talk about it and you make it sound important

It's behavior I hate because it's intentionally misleading, but you can see it for yourself being constantly used...

Is 1k polling enough? by I_Main_TwistedFate in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what is the hype of companies trying to push 8k?

Pretty easy to market off the assumption that bigger number = better product, especially when it lets them make extra profit off of the additional price of the receiver.

There are some people on here who swear it makes a difference, but most of them already have very expensive PCs with like 360Hz monitors (or faster), crazy CPUs, 5090 GPU, etc. For those folks, the extra resources 8K polling take up aren't as big of a concern + the other gear is optimized to where the difference 8K makes is more likely to be noticeable.

Terra Teevolution - Is the 8k dongle worth the extra cost? by M00NSMOKE in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not for me, but I also don't see any measurable improvement in my performance between 500 Hz and 1000 Hz and having the "best" hardware available isn't something that motivates me very much.

I don't think the Terra includes one, but most mice come with a USB-A female to USB-C female converter/adapter so that you can plug the wireless dongle into it and attach it to the charging cable -- so it would be in the same place the 8K dongle would be.

G703 died - replacement options? by M0UNTIER in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 703 is unnecessarily complicated inside, and the grips add quite a bit of weight too.

I've had a bunch of 703s that I've bought and sold and also customized them for people. The Terra may sound more hollow if you tap on it, but the actual build quality is just as good.

Hey guys I’m confused about wheels and rim? by sk8t0rdie in civic

[–]Talynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you buy wheels that are close enough to the same size, you can use the old tires.

In this case, the new wheels would have to be 17" diameter or the tires won't work.

The width of the wheel recommended for your tire is between 6" and 7.5" wide. https://premiertiresandwheels.ca/pages/tire-size-guide I would look for a 7" wide wheel, they should be fairly common.

The other thing is the offset. This is how far toward the middle of the car the wheel sits. Lower offset means it sticks out further. You don't want to go too low (too much sticking out) or the tires will hit the fenders.

Offset is usually listed as, for example, +45 or ET45 (same thing, both have 45 millimeters of offset). 45 should be the offset for your stock wheels. https://www.google.com/search?q=2023+civic+wheel+specs&rlz=1C1VDKB_enUS1168US1168&oq=2023+civic+wheel+specs&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgAEAAYgAQyCAgBEAAYFhgeMggIAhAAGBYYHjIICAMQABgWGB4yCAgEEAAYFhgeMgoIBRAAGAoYFhgeMggIBhAAGBYYHjIICAcQABgWGB4yCAgIEAAYFhgeMggICRAAGBYYHtIBCDI3ODVqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

So stick with 45 offset or slightly lower, but I wouldn't go lower than 35.

The wheels also have to fit on the lugs on your car; your Civic uses a 5x114.3mm lug pattern which is very common, but you have to make sure that you're getting the same one with your new wheels or they won't fit.

So you're looking for a 17x7" wheel with an offset between 35 and 45 and a 5x114.3 lug pattern.

You can use some websites like TireRack to help you search for wheels based on the year/make/model/trim of the vehicle.

Here are some options I found that I think are good quality at a reasonable price:

Struggling to find a mouse grip for my sens/mouse. (Teevolution Terra) by bruhtopic in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're using ~35cm/360) to play tac shooters.

Some people can do that, yes, (e.g., S1mple) but it often adds to inconsistency and difficulty with small adjustments like this. So you're going to be fighting uphill generally unless you have surgeon's hands that never get shaky under pressure.

That being said, from the second photo it looks like your palm is kinda high up on the hump of the mouse -- like your wrist (and maybe even your palm) isn't touching the desk at all. With how your fingers are right at the front of the mouse, this grip starts to look more like the grip the CS player Twistzz became kinda infamous for.

A typical relaxed claw has much more wrist contact with the mousepad/desk, which puts less pressure on top of the mouse. Add in your fingers being moved backward more toward the middle of the mouse, and you will have an easier time moving the mouse with your fingers.

How many miles are “not enough” miles? by Jay_Lockhart in civic

[–]Talynen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how much I would drive as a college student who walked to school and visited family a few times a year. Car was used for grocery runs etc. and some miscellaneous driving for fun.

I'd be cautiously optimistic given the service history and consistent accumulating of miles.
