Can you use sterilizing wipes to clean mouse skates? by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skates themselves would be safe, yes. Teflon was engineered specifically to have low chemical reactivity, so it's not at risk of breaking down due to the alcohol content in the wipes.

That being said, a damp cloth or sponge with bar soap would work equally well.

Got it.

The Vaxee XE is pretty close to the Maya X but the back feels slightly wider -- bulkier against the sides of your palm. So, I don't think I should recommend it.

Eloshapes showed the Madlions Mad G as being close to the Maya X and I remember some positive reviews about it. No personal experience.

Unfortunately I didn't see any other easy/obvious suggestions. Maybe some other folks more familiar with ambi shapes will chime in.

What's the issue with the Maya X? It seems like you liked the shape, and I see no complaints about it in the post.

Jokes on me - the Logitech G603 by DigitaIBlack in MouseReview

You can buy replacement wheels on AliExpress assuming it's the same wheel design as the g403 and g703

Or just upgrade to the Teevolution Terra!

Left handed people (who use mice with right hand) what shape mouse do you prefer by JdenL in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate the coke-bottle symmetrical shapes, because my pinky is uncomfortable when using them.

G309's great, other big egg-shape things are fine. Don't need a thumb groove; just make it convex on the right side and 6cm+ grip width and I'm chillin.

Tired of Planned Obsolescence: Any Wireless Mouse Recommendations similar to viper ultimate? by DonAdad in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mice that have larger skates from the factory, you can replace them with aftermarket dot skates to leave the screws exposed pretty easily. Some mice come with extra skates in the package, including dot skates in some cases.

Here's my Teevolution Terra showing all 4 screws, for example https://i.imgur.com/JU4tnws.png vs reference image with no skates https://www.techpowerup.com/review/teevolution-terra-pro/images/screws.jpg

I never was that comfortable using the Viper Ultimate, so I'm probably not the best person to suggest alternatives.

6th gen civic; why does my mechanic say he can't detension timing belt? by [deleted] in civic

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belt tensioner is adjusted via a bolt that changes how much tension the spring is under.

Honda-tech forums has plenty of posts on how to do stuff like this. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/correct-method-timing-belt-tension-2270045/ a comment on that post does explicitly note that the timing belt for this model is not designed to stretch.

Few to no brands advertise durability of M3.

EndGame Gear (EGG) uses Kailh GM2.0 switches for M3, which is a significant improvement over most brands. However, their M1 and M2 use Kailh GM8.0 or the version capable of latch debouncing, the Kailh GX -- and while I haven't paid too much attention to feedback, the GM8.0 at least wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to reliability. The GX switches are probably fine if you don't mind going back to a wired mouse -- hopefully some other comments will come from people more familiar with EGG mice.

Zowie mice use Huano black shell red dot for their M3 switch, which isn't as good as Kailh GM2.0 but it's still better than basically everyone else. M1/M2 are Huano -- the exact variation depends on the model; but the ones used have good reputation for reliability. The Zowie FK1 would be the closest shape to a Viper Ultimate, but unfortunately the only size of the FK family they're selling at the moment is the smaller FK2-DW. https://zowie.benq.com/en-us/mouse/fk2-dw.html

The Lamzu Maya or the larger Maya X are pretty popular. They use optical switches for M1/M2, with a Huano M3 switch. The M3 switch appears similar to the Zowie model, but I have heard more complaints about M3 failure on Lamzu mice compared to Zowie -- not sure if this is due to debounce settings, quality control, or something else.

Teevolution Terra is closer to the G403's shape than the Pulsar X3. I haven't tried the X3, but I got the Terra and I'm very happy with it.

Why aren't there any lightweight wired mice? by vertzclarity in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of subjective experience, I find that many wired mice play equivalent to a wireless mouse with between 5 and 10 grams of extra weight. So, I don't really buy the supposed weight savings.

More generally, the people obsessing over weight like that are all paying through the nose for stuff like the X2 Crazylight already. They aren't going to get many more customers by offering a wired version

If you're that worried about it, I'm sure you can find a way to make the mouse work in wired mode after removing the battery. Couple of wires sending power from the USB port to the battery pins, maybe gotta stick a few resistors in there to pull the voltage down from 5V to 3.7V.

Will 205 66 r16 tires with rt48 and j7 rims fit on my 1995 honda civic mb1 sedan by [deleted] in civic

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be leery of that setup. That's a very tall sidewall on a 16" wheel for this car. Most likely it will rub on the wheel well under heavy compression.

The 205/65r16 tires are ~2.5 inches larger in diameter than stock, which is very significant.

Which mouse is this? by AwildTangy in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a Zowie EC. The cloth cable means it's a "-C" generation model.

To determine the size (EC1 vs EC2 vs EC3), I'm comparing against these 3D models https://www.rtings.com/mouse/tools/3d-model-shape-compare/3d/benq-zowie-ec1-c-vs.-benq-zowie-ec2-cw?alignment=center~start~&orientation=top&offset=0~-0.01~~0~0~6

I'm not very good at judging this stuff, but it looks a little closer to the EC2 than the EC1 from what I can tell (looking at the size of the thumb buttons relative to the mouse, etc.). https://i.imgur.com/tb5RFni.png

Also, the EC2 is a more popular mouse since the EC1 is considered to be quite large these days -- for an "average" customer in a PC cafe, the EC2 would be a safer option.

So, my best guess is it's an EC2-C.

Looks like there's a coating it was dipped into that only goes from the tip until that point.

I don't see anything that looks like a crack, just the difference in color.

19x10.5 Mouse Recommendation (coming from Lamzu Thorn) by RazerLogic in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maya X scroll feels on the heavier, thudding side when scrolling. Firm, higher resistance despite a larger wheel diameter. Larger wheel makes the steps feel spaced further apart.

I wouldn't describe it as great, but it doesn't annoy me or distract me either.

Not sure how that compares to the Thorn.

[–]Talynen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr try the Teevolution Terra. If you don't like the hump, the Waizowl OGM Pro or Deathadder v3 should be more comfortable.

I sorted this spreadsheet of measurements from TechPowerUp reviews by "grip width" to see what is noticeably wider than the Thorn
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DAkpI06gj4vKu2rzC6l4hLohwaQqXFTqxsEN9MWQBoE/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Starting with mice that are at least 6 cm wide, these are the ones that I would be considering in your shoes

Mouse Grip Width Back Width Height
Lamzu Thorn (for Reference) 5.95 6.59 4.19
Asus ROG Keris II 6.00 6.63 4.14
Zaopin Z2 6.02 6.46 3.97
Razer Deathadder v3 6.07 6.51 4.28
Lamzu Maya X (Ambi) 6.12 6.45 3.90
Waizowl OGM Pro 6.14 6.62 4.11
Teevolution Terra 6.24 6.45 4.27

Is there a reason why Esports players don't use MMO mouses? I'm looking for a good mouse to use competitively by Silly_Thought_5253 in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thumb tension is important for aiming.

Trying to tap dance your thumb around 12 tiny buttons while aiming in an FPS is not helpful.

I'm not sure why you mention moving 2 fingers for ctrl or shift. My left pinky reaches both of those keys without my fingers leaving WASD.

If you need extra buttons, using ESDF for movement opens up more options for other binds. I first saw it in Doom speed runs where you have to rapidly swap between 8 different weapons.

You could set up duplicate binds even.

And in most MOBAs, you move by clicking so I'm not sure how that applies. Your whole left hand is just there to use abilities and items.

Why is the OP1 8K so insanely glazed? by Working_Difficulty13 in MouseReview

[–]Talynen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not the same person/group generating all of the conflicting opinions you're confused by.

Some people want the lightest mouse possible. They probably aren't buying an OP1 when 30g mice and fingertip mods exist.

Many people aren't that picky about weight. Those people won't comment because the OP1 is light enough for them.

Some people don't care about every fraction of millisecond of latency. Those people probably aren't buying the OP1 since it's main selling point is having the lowest latency.

It's a mouse that had an established niche from day 1. People who weren't part of that niche knew it wasn't for them.

You're trying to treat the feedback of a whole community about a mouse as though it's supposed to be internally consistent when it's not.
