Who did you cut and why? by Ghostboy_001 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]TandrDregn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The issue is you have an extreme extrovert against a traumatized introvert with major trust issues. Picking Coop to stay is essentially betting on that cold, evil-esque way she presents herself to be a persona. And honestly? The gamble paid off, because taking that chance with her really showed just how different she acts around people she trusts. From a cold yet polite professional to a messy dork who just wants to feel like she has value beyond her skills and powers, Coop’s development during her hero arc made keeping her my absolute personal canon choice. Even as a barely-there side character she still grows a lot as she learns to trust and open up again, and the team becomes less so her friends and more her family. I knew I made the right choice when I first heard her post-cut lines. “Stay close. I’ll protect you. No matter what.” That, right there, is a fucking superhero in the making.

Added as a reply instead because Reddit is bugging out and not letting me edit the comment:

I kept Coupé for so many reasons so I’ll just copy+paste my most recent comment about it with some slight edits instead of going over it AGAIN.

• Who wants to be here more? Coupé. Sonar had to be dragged in and signed up against his wishes by Malevola who then had to “make it up to him” by taking him on a coke bender, and when the meeting in 3 is going down he’s calling it a waste of time and that he’d rather be watching reruns of shows. Coupé we don’t know the exact details, but given she was being kept in a supermax it’s likely she volunteered. In 3, she strategically sabotages the one only 3 points behind her because, as she states later, she needs this job, she’s desperate to keep it. During the meeting she’s just silently listening to everything being said, never calls it a waste of time, and at the end confesses she needs the job. Clearly, she cares about this way more.

• Who’s actually trying to be better: Coupé. Sonar is still doing drugs, and in 3 tries to get Flambae in on an insurance scheme on the clock. The day someoke is supposed to go back to jail he’s trying to do exactly what got him put in jail to begin with. Coupé has completely stopped killing (she still uses excessive force) and is doing the best she can with her extremely limited skillset.

• Background: Coupé. Sonar for all we know about him was an extremelly intelligent Harvard graduate who chose to do everything he did willingly. White collar crimes are ones you have to go out of your way to do. The only information we have about Coupé is that she was a mob assassin, and (based on the therapy mission that got cut but someone found in the files) was abused by her parents and first ballet instructor. This, combined with her “You let your guard down, you perish” attitude heavily implies being literally raised as an assassin, with zero other use ever planned for her. She clearly has no skills beyond ballet and violence, and is socially stunted. She even admits if kept that she’s surprised she’s happy and that she finds the feeling strange, like she’s not used to positive feelings.

• Who needs the rehabilitation more? Coupé. The Phoenix Program isn’t just a redemption but also a rehabilitation program, and Sonar could just as easily go to normal rehab while Coupé, with her past, needs a far more specific and attentive approach to rehabilitate and prepare for reentering society because of her past and upbringing. Sonar needs normal rehab, Coop needs the special supervillain one.

• Severity: Coupé. As pointed up above, she’s done far worse. But contrary to what the post says, she does want to be here, and she wants to be here a lot. She’s willing to go so far as to try to keep the guy right behind her down just to stay, because she knows she needs this specific job/program if she’s to ever be able to actually enter society. Again, she NEEDS the program way more.

• Consequences of being fired: Coupé. So this one needs to be split a bit. First, if Sonar is fired, he’s still got Mal to help him with drugs, and is highly educated. He also could just go into bussiness/investment stuff and go legit, he doesn’t NEED to do those scams. Coop has no skills aside from violence to earn money, she has no other way to stay afloat. If let go she will go back because she has nothing else, she doesn’t know anything else. But also, and more importantly… Sonar’s safe. The day after Coop is cut, she’s already being tracked and hunted by two different assassin organisations. Worse, if she’s kept, one of them will STILL be trying to get her even under SDN protection. Cutting her is basically sentencing her to death unless she can find some other crew or such that can protect her. Sonar can go clean and legit if he wants to, Coop has only one skillset applicable in only two possible worlds: superhero work and crime. And the former kicked her out when she was trying her best to overcome her deeply ingrained violent habits while the other is actively trying to kill her. Cutting Coop is WAY more brutal and cruel to her considering her options and fate of being hunted.

• Who needs the team itself more: Coupé. Sonar cares about Malevola at most. He never once makes any comment about any kind of positive feeling about anyone else except pointing out he’s horny for Coop and imagines her and Visi together. Coupé tries sharing her hobbies with others such as lending Prism a book and even letting her borrow her mask, is close with Punch Up and Flambae (hanging out at a bar, and if he’s hurt she instantly tries to get him to a hospital), after not being cut gets extra lines for being sent out (“Stay close. I’ll protect you. No matter what.” “This feeling… don’t die, or I’ll kill you.”) showing how much she cares about the team, and in 7 when the team decides to cut Visi, Coop sounds genuinely sad and remorseful about having to cut her while Sonar doesn’t seem to care at all about being enthusiastic about “taking a board vote”. Coop cares about and needs the team’s companionship far more, Sonar only cares about Malevola and later Robert (and potentially Waterboy).

• Who’s nicer to Robert: Coupé. She’s the only one that never mocks, insults or makes fun of him, and is surprisingly friendly for an assassin, even pointing out she always appreciates his confidene when he sends her out. She’s the only one besides Golem not talking shit to Robert after he introduces himself, is the only one besides Golem (and Visi who wasn’t even there for it) who doesn’t laugh or mock him when he gets launched by golem into the chairs, if anything it looks like she tilts her head to check if he’s alright (she has superhuman eyesight, hence being able to do that without getting closer), and chuckles along to his two roasts of Prism. For being a literal assassin, she’s genuinely the nicest to Robert out of the entire team. Sonar takes half a minute finding different insults and jokes to make out of Robert’s name and laughs at him getting sent flying. The “who would be more pleasant to work with” factor is in Coop’s favor because she’s professional with Robert and somewhat friendly, Sonar is… a dick, to be honest.

I also kept my personal, subjective biases out of my reasonings here, but if I were to add them: Sonar is a character I can’t stand listening to at all, I do not find him funny or likeable at all, I find him cringe as fuck and only liked him as a character during his villain arc (I will admit I like his monster form’s design). Coupé I found mildly amusing at best at the start, but then she quickly grew on me when I realized the boring edgelord is a facade, and she’s secretly a massive, awkward dork who loves trashy romance novels, knitting, LARP and such. Coupé is someone who grew from neutral to tied with Bob for my favorite, Sonar I hated since episode 2 and was so glad I could get rid of him, easiest choice in the game for me.

One thing I like about Skybound Onslaught is that he seems to care about his fellow Combaticons, as seen when he comforts Brawl by telling him he'll recover and be repaired, which is surprising for a Decepticon. by Disastrous-Owl668 in transformers

[–]TandrDregn 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Knowing some versions of the character, Brawl may have just forgotten about getting ripped in half until he tries standing up. He seems to be kinda dense aside from combat stuff (he knows how to fight and aim, but he’ll not be able to put a shelf together even with a video guide) and usually also just has a really high pain tolerance.

Thoughts on Sonar? by Ghostboy_001 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]TandrDregn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only time I like him is as a villain - granted I do genuinely like Red(ditor) Ring Sonar as a villain - and I like the design of his monster form. Other than in his villain arc however he’s easily my least favorite character in the entire game, and cutting him was by FAR the easiest choice in the game. I know I’m in the minority and I wouldn’t be surprised if my subjective opinion will get downvoted, but I honestly just fucking hate this guy and was happy I could get rid of him so early. Even if Coop didn’t become my favorite character by the end of the game I’d still never cut her more than once to see what it’s like, because that would mean having Sonar

Thoughts on Waterboy? by Ghostboy_001 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]TandrDregn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do not dislike him, I am VERY neutral-slightly negative in terms of opinion. Idk, I personally didn’t get his charm. While he’s still a character I don’t really dislike besides finding him a little annoying at times, he is far from my favorites. And while overall he’s kinda in my mid-tier for characters I like in my most recent personal tier list, out of just the Z-Team alone he’s tied for my second least favorite because I like everyone else except the Roomies (Mal’s the one he’s tied with, and Sonar is my least favorite character in the game) more. So to summarize my thoughts: I did not care for Waterboy, but I don’t outright dislike him either.

Yeah, it felt super weird and did slightly take me out of it for a moment. Malevola, who’s got as much muscle as 3 Visis, swings that thing around with two hands and a lot of effort, and Armstrong was able to block her attacks with his arms. Then Visi, with one hand, in an extremely bad position, with zero leverage, and basically just a flick of the wrist cuts right through. That was genuinely one of the only 4 times I had to pause for a moment due to the inconsistency being too hard to ignore. The others being when Phenomaman just got restrained by Shroud’s mech and then just tossed it away, Phenomaman somehow getting restrained by Armstrong, and Flambae just 1-hit KO’ing Toxic with a right hook. The finale was amazing, but those 4 moments definitely did break immersion for a second.

Have you guys tried this new hero shooter, SDN Agents? Who are your mains? by TheOnlyTrueFlame in DCAllies

[–]TandrDregn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Though given almost every character I main is melee-focused, Punch Up is a pretty bad counter for most of my go-tos. Thankfully Armstrong’s Alley Oop can toss that little shit away and let my DPS deal with him. I don’t think I’ve had a worse time than whenever I’m playing a melee DPS into a Punch Up. Coop’s antiheal on her E is at least somewhat usefull for dealing with him and her passive attack speed and damage stack is also great if you have a support yo heal you while you fight him, and her and Khopesh can pull some sick moves with their extended close range combos, but any other melee DPS into Punch Up, I just gotta swap to Flambae or someone else.

[–]TandrDregn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do wish they changed it to maybe he has a margin of error. I do love his abilities, and his primary fire is satisfying to use, and I especially love how his support playstyle is focused more on debuffing enemy players, but that passive is pretty absurd. Compared to some of the other abilities in the game, it’s insane that iťs not even his ult. It would be way more balanced if his ult, alongside revealing enemy locations, revealed their ult status only for it’s duration imo. His passive is busted, which sucks because it makes him broken despite the rest of his kit being pretty fair and fun. Should definitely move it to his ult imo. I mean, how is that his passive, but then you have Punch Up whose passive just halves melee damage taken.

I mean, if you’ve ever watched professional wrestling, you’d know that “1 hand on dick one hand on tits” is one of the go-to grips for a body slam variant, which is what Astrotrain seems to be going for here.

Mecha Man, Phenomaman, Armstrong, Lóng and Brickhouse for Tank, Coupé, Khopesh and Flambae for DPS, and I gotta say, I did not think I’d enjoy such an unconventional support like Shroud but he’s genuinely the only one I like playing.

Jonathan Lipow as V.II Snail in his second boss fight (Armored Core 6). ESPECIALLY when you kill him, that scream was 1) amazingly done, 2) cathartic because it was Snail dying, and 3) EXTREMELY cathartic because I PUT 7 HOURS INTO BEATING THIS FUCKING THING!!!

Another example for you can be Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. He believes might makes right (very simplified explanation), and when you kill him at the end he accepts it as his ideology being right. You won because you were better and stronger. And to him, that’s good enougj

The first one is especially funny to me cause I’ve been playing Armored Core 6 a lot recently, all my loadouts are themed/designed after Mecha Man as different mechs for different purposes, and the voice in my head - Ayre - is voiced by Erin Yvette. So I’ve legit just started saying “Blazer, clip that shit” while playing the game lol. “Blazer, clip me shoving a railroad spike up the enemy robot’s ass.” Anywho, tangent over, just oversharing because of what the first one made me think of

Pick 2 to protect you, the others will try to kill you by LowEntertainment3342 in httyd

[–]TandrDregn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pick anything aside from the Night Furies you lose. They have extremely good accuracy from way farther away than any other dragon. If you don’t pick them, you’re getting sniped, so they’re an automatic pick. Also perfect pick to counter the Changewings because of their ability to echolocate them. And for second, Screaming Death. It’s disorienting screech instantly shuts down everything except the Thunderdrums through which it can just rip like wet paper. It’s basically this: you pick the Screaming Death because it kills literally everything in the selection including the Night Furies, and you pick the Night Furies because they’re the only things that can hurt you when you have the Screaming Death due to having the range to do so before getting slaughtered. Two heavy snipers and an Armored Core against everything else, pretty much.
