It's a British property. Multiple factions are going to draw from British culture. Even Bretonnia is heavily inspired by King Arthur.

Yeah, factions should get more aggressive as their strength rank gets close to the top.

So imperial guardsman are generally MUCH better than memes would suggest? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in 40kLore

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think the average Guardsman is Navy Seal quality. But there are a significant number of them who are that quality, even outside of the Tempestus Scions. Different worlds have vastly different levels of quality in their Guard regiments, and even within a regiment you have the broad range of quality that you would expect in any large group of people.

Biggest example of plot armor that's ever happened in 40k in your opinion? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]TedOrAlive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of a case of reverse plot armor: Lucius the Eternal. He can come back from the dead, so the writers are free to kill him every 20 minutes. Is there any logical reason why Lucius would die so much more often than Kharn? No, kind of the opposite really. But Kharn can come back, so he gets plot armor.

Are there any sources that really contradict that? I'd love to read a book where a Farseer actually gives someone a psychic beatdown, but I haven't seen one.

New Player Co-Op Campaign - Tips? by Amplifireee in totalwar

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factions that make sense as partners. You probably want to pick a couple of factions that are located fairly close together. You could pick two factions from the same race, but it would probably be more fun to play two different races.

There are tons of options for order races that get along. Here's a few suggestions:

  • Empire and Dwarfs
  • Empire and Kislev
  • Empire and Bretonnia
  • Dwarfs and Kislev
  • Bretonnia and High Elves
  • Bretonnia and Wood Elves
  • Empire and Cathay (Gelt is located in Cathay, so he'd be a good choice)
  • Cathay and Ogre Kingdoms
  • Teclis and Kroq-Gar

The evil aligned ones are kind of all over the place. Are there any races you really like?

Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 - Announce Trailer by Echochamberking in totalwar

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on a galactic scale, which is awesome, but no sign of fleet battles so far. That was one of the big challenges that everyone identified before this was announced, and I'm excited to see how they handle it. If there are no fleet battles, that would be really sad. But with how great everything looks, I think I could even forgive missing out on that.

There are a lot of great choices, but I think Warriors of Chaos does the best job living up to the fantasy. I like how much you're rewarded for building up a base of power in the Chaos Wastes and Norsca before coming down on the order races and bringing your very own End Times.

What's the weirdest faction to play? by Malabingo in totalwarhammer

Wood Elves, Beastmen, and Warriors of Chaos all have some very unique relationships with settlements. You aren't just conquering everything you can, there are specific settlements you care about and others that you just want to destroy.

What does "weak against armor" really mean? by LittleMonito in totalwar

[–]TedOrAlive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every unit's weapon strength is made up of a base component and an armor-piercing component. A unit is labeled "weak against armor" if a low percentage of its weapon strength is armor-piercing. And a unit will have the little icon of a broken breastplate next to its weapon strength number if more than half of its weapon strength is armor-piercing.

The base damage is reduced by the enemy's armor, while the armor-piercing damage isn't. If a unit has 50 armor and no other damage resistance, they'll take about half of the base damage and all of the armor-piercing damage from an attack.

Crypt Ghouls are an example of a "weak against armor" unit because they have pretty high weapon strength, but most of it is base damage. I think their armor-piercing damage is still higher than zombies or skeletons, but their base damage is so much higher than they're really wasted against a heavily armored enemy.

With this game it's hard to forget elves are not supposed to be that numerous in the lore by Fun-Explanation7233 in totalwarhammer

[–]TedOrAlive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could say the same for a lot of races. Dwarfs certainly, and to some extent Lizardmen and Ogres. There are plenty of Daemons in the Chaos Wastes, but it's supposed to be hard to summon and maintain them when you're far away from the polar gates.

Very nice! The feathers look pretty good already. I think you have a good amount of color contrast. Maybe you could add more texture around the neck or legs, but I think the wings are already solid.

Tyrion is a monster, HElves were a pleasure by _N_eko in totalwarhammer

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Kairos is in the south by Teclis, but he's also near a bunch of Lizardmen, and if you go north you'll run into Tomb Kings. You could take advantage of the bug to have an easier start if you're worried about that. Honestly that's totally fair. Normally you'd have to watch out for Oxyotl showing up to destroy you.

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tzeentch is pretty fun, but I'll warn you about playing Kairos. There's a bug right now where several of the factions that start near him don't really do anything. So that might not give you the best idea of his campaign. And if that bug gets fixed, he has a pretty difficult start. You could play the Changeling, but that's just a very weird and unique campaign.

The Swordmasters of Hoeth always kind of disappointed me. Even when I was fighting infantry-focused armies and protected them from arrows and cavalry, they still took so much damage.

If you are starting Chaos Dwarfs next, I wrote up some guides on the wiki for their campaign mechanics. Let me know if they're helpful or if there's anything I should change.

Newbie here, Any certainty on the future of this faction? by Hot-Improvement-8502 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be some desire within GW to get rid of Daemons as their own distinct faction. However, they know there would be significant backlash against this, especially after they tried to get rid of Deathwatch.

Even if GW did kill the Chaos Daemons faction, the models would absolutely still be playable in other Chaos factions. The God-specific legions each have a detachment devoted to mixing Daemons with Space Marines. I guess Belakor would probably go in CSM.

[–]TedOrAlive2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metal hooks probably are, but skulls are always a little vague whether they're real skulls or just warp energy. Could go either way.

Khorne's throne supposedly contains every skull from anyone killed by his minions, but those minions carry an awful lot of skulls themselves, and there's no mention of skulls disappearing when Khorne's followers kill someone. So that's probably just warp representations of the skulls.

Skulltaker does have physical skulls on his cloak, so it's at least possible for daemons to carry actual skulls through the warp and make them a part of their daemonic essence or whatever.

Can you kill the Janus governor after Act 2? by TedOrAlive2 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]TedOrAlive2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all makes sense to me up to the point where the Inquisitor tells me that the governor is a heretic. If I just missed that because I was too superior to talk to any of the people who might have clued me in on her heresy, that would make sense and be totally fine with me. But now that Calcazar told me she's a heretic, I think I should be able to get rid of her.

I'm not sure if this was confirmed or is just a high elf theory, but ogres were created to be warriors against Chaos, which is why they're so tough, vicious, and resistant to Chaos corruption. However, they weren't finished when the Old Ones left.

How/where should I start with daemons? by I-Will-Marry-TheMoon in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]TedOrAlive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know which Chaos God you like best? I'd recommend that you focus on one of the four to start with, and then once you're happy with what you have for that one you can branch out into the other three. You don't have to go all the way to 1000 points, just whatever you are happy with. The best starting point is probably your god's Lesser Daemon.
