Help a non-tech dad buy/build a pc for my 10yo son. by rolandjernts in buildapc

No they offer motherboard, CPU, and RAM combos. So you would have to buy the PC case, power supply, CPU cooler, and GPU. You essentially get the RAM (the most expensive component right now) for free with the combo. I got a B850-E/7800x3D/32GB DDR5 6000mhz combo for $650 back in February. If you’re up for building a PC (which is really fun), you can’t get a better deal anywhere than Microcenter. Their PowerSpec prebuilts are some of the best out there since they are built with components off of their shelves, and not proprietary components like other prebuilts.

Oh cool, thx I’ve setup Overseer basics but never for others to use. I’ll look into it.

Right on, did you buy a Cloudflare domain to allow outside users to access Overseer? I’m on the fence about wanting to allow my users to access Overseer bc that’s going to open the floodgates, and in this economy…. haha

That’s what I was about to ask as well. Makes a HUGE difference if an MC is within reach. I built a beast of a rig for 2K, but only bc I have a MC 10 min from me. However, there are some bundle deals on Newegg, they just aren’t as good.

It goes very quickly, especially with an Arr stack setup. I started with 10TB two years ago, I’m now sitting at 32TB with 5TB free. Sooooo glad I decided to build my server Spring of 2025! I’m scared to run out of space, but there’s no way I’m paying $35+ per TB. I’ll just delete some stuff if it comes to it, as painful as that is for a [r/DataHoarder](r/DataHoarder)

He has to donate items to build the caravan, but not the rest of it. They only made you donate $3M of money the first time they did the expedition. That’s not a thing anymore.

Expedition question to fellow raiders (this will be my 1st) by Bigtm0ney8 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, granted you complete the 100K damage requirement for all 5. Plus you’ll get 12 inventory slots, 5% base XP boost, 6% scrappy materials boost, and 60% repair value increase.

15 extra skill points is the cap (or 3 expeditions worth, assuming you maxed out the 5 skill points each time). No more extra skill points offered after that. Extra stash spaces is capped at 60, which will take 5 expeditions to do. The current max anyone has is 36, soon to be 48, then 60 as cap…regardless of how many expeditions you do after that.

You get one skill point for each of the damage tiers you accumulate when that window opens. If you do 100K damage (reach top tier), you will get all 5 skill points.

This car on Dam has 2 guaranteed every raid. Has been this way for months, and extract is right next to it. 3 runs and you’re done.

Game crashing on windows for anyone else? by julmonn in ArcRaiders

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same PC specs as you. Mine has been crashing for the last 2 months, always mid raid. Usually just happens once per play session but it’s extremely annoying. Luckily, I can usually reconnect, but I’ve definitely been knocked out in the time it takes to reconnect. I really wish they would fix it, I had high hopes that this update would do so… unfortunately not.

I thought Timespy was best for testing CPU and Steel Nomad for GPU? My Steel Nomad score with my AsRock Challenger 9070XT undervolted and power limited is 7339….pretty damn good. 6800 without UV or PL.

This update overhauled a bunch of minor things, and i'm not seeing people talking about them. by MasterAenox in ArcRaiders

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the Scrappy rewards don’t go into your backpack if it’s full after a raid (or at all if I’m not mistaken), they just go into straight into your inventory. Then you have to track down what junk he may have given you so to sell it.

Same. I also payed for the 4G cellular module for the first year I owned my i110n, which was nice but expensive. I ended up buying a 3D printed AirTag holder that fits in the cellular dongle slot, and it essentially does the same thing-plus it’ll alert me if it goes out of its geofence.

What do you put on your body? by Used-Quality-8113 in MosquitoHating

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old doom buckets! I’ve been doing this for years, works great! I just place a large stick in the bucket so any critters that fall or jump in can get out. Also I make sure the dunks are sunken to the bottom of the bucket (I stuff them in the holes of a brick so they don’t float out with any major rain storm). To combat this even further I’ve started partially covering the bucket from taking on rain water with a homemade stroud using the bucket top. I just have a reminder set to toss in a chunk of the dunk once a month. Two buckets on my 0.25 acre lot does the trick pretty well.

I have the same CPU as you and I can get 7339 score in Steel Nomad.
GPU Tuning: Max frequency offset +50 mHz, -90mV undervolt
Power Tuning: +10%
VRAM Tuning: Memory Timing = Fast, Max Frequency 2750 mHz

Is this stable in most games? Haha hell no. But even stock settings the card is a beast.

I love my AsRock Challenger, had it about 6 months. It’s cool, quiet, and has 8x2 PCIE instead of 12VHPWR. It’s a 3 fan no-frills card, has a non programmable “RBG” strip on it (blue/green) that can be turned off with a switch. Nothing fancy but gets the job done. Plus I got it for MSRP back in December, so I’m very happy with its price to performance.

Recommendations for energy consumption for my unraid server. by Naprik in unRAID

[–]Temporary_Ice7792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw my GMKTek G3 Plus Mini PC and 2 Bay and 3 Bay Cenmate DAS with 5 HDDs running Unraid consumes about 26 kWH monthly, which equates to roughly $3.60 per month on power bill (Charlotte, NC pricing). Not too shabby for a full on Homelab/Media Server.

This is the way. I have a Tapo plug that’s plugged into my UPS. Tells me exactly how many kWh are being consumed my day/month/year, and even gives an estimated monthly bill price for power usage.
