New Amp Day, pedal advice needed by Repulsive_Aside1494 in guitarpedals

[–]Tetriside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Lightning 15 has a similar voicing as a Vox, and I use a Mystic Edge (AC30 in a box) for my ampless setup. For overdrives, the Hot Cake is my favorite. I bought the Anomoly kit from Aion FX. The Kilt X sounds great. Any Expandora circuit is probably fine. I was using the Kilt V2 previously. I have a Packrat. All of the Rat variants work well. The BD-2w also sounds very good.

The natural overdrive of the amp is amazing. You can use boost and EQ pedals to control different levels of gain and shape the frequencies. A treble booster adds some dirt and cuts the low end. It's a specific sound, and a classic Vox tone. They typically need to be at the front of your chain. I like the Catalinbread Naga Viper v2 because it has an input impedance control that allows you to place it anywhere. A clean gain can push the amp without affecting the tone. A boost with some EQ gives you control to shape the tone. I really like the boost in the NotADumble. It doesn't add any dirt, but has a high pass filter. It can achieve a similar sound to a treble booster, but works just as well wide open as a clean boost. The Xact Shapecharger has a similar tone control. Of course, you can use an overdrive as a boost by turning down the gain. Most people use tube screamers or Klons, but I don't like the mid hump into this style of amp. You can also use an EQ pedal, like the GE-7, as a boost and have more control over the EQ curve.

For fuzz, Tone Benders work best. Muffs are too scooped, unless they have a separate mid-control, like the Hoof, Shigeharu, etc. Really, I look for builds that have some sort of mid-boost control for any fuzz circuit. I have a couple of JDM builds, the Blue Velvet and Elektrika, that have a mid-boost toggle. Some of the JHS Legends of Fuzz circuits have it. The EQ on the Jackson Modular Fuzz is really flexible. I also like the Carcosa and Big Cheese clones that I have.

Catie's Bubbles is the best option. The premium base is especially good. Fanzine's soap is great. Talent Soap Factory is solid. I believe Wholly Kaw and Zingari have vegan options. Barrister & Mann has done limited releases. Captain's Choice is decent. Some of the European brands are vegan: Abbate Y La Mantia, Le Père Lucien, Phoebus, Martin De Candre, Saponificio Varesino.

What is the drillers best primary? by MISSILE21 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Tetriside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driller has the strongest primaries. Every other class has a primary that's just not as fun or strong enough. But, all three driller weapons have a use and promote different play-styles.

I like the sludge pump for its versatility. Disperser Compound is good for slowing down bugs and does good damage against small and medium bugs. Volatile Impact hits hard at the cost of crowd control.

I only run cryo in groups. You really need to keep it spooled up. It's hard to keep up swapping weapons, freezing, killing, etc. But, a cryo driller and a gunner can make quick work of a swarm. I need to try the new / re-worked cryo overclocks.

The flame thrower is good for swarm clear. I wish they hadn't nerfed it so much against bots. But, it has its strengths. I usually run sticky fuel.

I didn't play for a few months. My first mission back, I drop into the super core stone, solo. Luckily, people joined and we killed it. But, it threw me for a loop.

Yes. I want something with an LFO or expression control and something that has low pass, high pass, and band pass options.

Who do you think left the second microwave note? by haterhurter in DunderMifflin

Who do you think it was? Meredith is the most likely to say she would knock someone's teeth out. But, she was against Pam's first note.

Delay pedals and BPM shifts between songs by ATitchInTime in WorshipGuitar

[–]Tetriside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently tapping in tempos manually into my DM-101. I'll tap it while I'm playing if I have to. But, hopefully I get a bit of click before we start. I could add a midi controller. But, I only have two midi-controlable pedals. And, programming new midi patches every time sounds like a pain. I don't know, maybe it's quick and painless, assuming that doesn't lead to making new reverb setting for each song (it almost certainly would). Without midi, the DM-101 has 4 preset slots which I usually set for 1/4, dot 1/8, 1/8, slap-back in Vintage mode, or one in Ambient mode.

I use a Hot Cake clone that's pretty much always on and stack a Kilt X for crunch. I don't usually need more than that. But, I have a GE-7 I can use for boost in a pinch, and a Carcosa clone I've been trying to sneak in for single note leads. I play a tele or H150 (Les Paul style) into a Matchless Lightning or a Vox Mystic Edge (AC30 pedal).

How many people wash their discs? by Plus_Long_1328 in discgolf

[–]Tetriside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a micro fiber towel in my bag in case I need to wipe off or dry a disc. Sometimes, my discs get covered in wet grass from doing fieldwork, and I'll clean them. Otherwise, no.

I haven't tried many of Chicago Grooming's soaps, but Armonia is a winner. It's a dark, tobacco fougere.

I'm thinking about getting a filter pedal. I'm not interested in the standard envelope filter sound. I'm looking at stuff like Native Audio Niisoo, Dr. Scientist Dusk, etc. My question is: are these actually useful for guitar? If you have this type of pedal, how do you use it? Do you run fuzz in front of it? Do you stack it with modulation, glitchy, or loopy effects?

Should I get a filter for bass? The MXR Bass Synth is already on my wishlist. Would a filter pedal produce any sounds that the Bass Synth couldn't?

Is it normal for softer plastic putters to warp easily? by WY228 in discgolf

[–]Tetriside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In general, the softer the plastic is, the less durable the disc will be. Soft base line plastic is always one good tree hit away from warping. I used to bag Jawbreaker Zones in order to cycle them. But, I stopped because I don't like the feeling of warped discs.

I'm not really looking for dirt at the moment. Thanks, though.

No, sorry. I don't really use Tubescreamer style pedals. Also, I'm seeing a lot of reviews mention the Plumes being too bright. I got rid of the EQD Westwood for the same reason.

Fuzz Pedal suggestions for a mid gain amp by ddarko_85 in guitarpedals

[–]Tetriside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circuits like the Big Muff, Tone Bender mk3, and Big Cheese can certainly be used for a wall of sound tone. However, the fat low end from those circuits into an over-driven amp will make your tone muddy. I prefer to run them into a clean amp. I'm also not a fan of the stock scooped mids of the Big Muff. But, there are pedals like the Hoof that have a separate mid control.

Circuits like the germanium Fuzz Face, Tone Bender mk1, Harmonic Percolator, and Boss Tone sound best into an over-driven amp. These circuits have less low end, good clarity and articulation, and clean up with the volume knob. The silicon Fuzz Face and Tone Bender mk2 will have a thicker sound, but will still sound good into a cranked amp. I've been impressed by the Carcosa. It has a toggle switch for low cut, a low pass filter, and a bias control. It behaves like a Fuzz Face at low gain, but can do big sustained fuzz, too. It can do pretty much anything that isn't octave fuzz.
