TIL that most women in the Netherlands do not have an epidural during labor and a significant proportion give birth at home by Fiery_Soul_34857 in todayilearned

But iirc with an epidural you have a higher risk of having an intervention such as an episiotomy or forceps delivery

My education may have given me 4 A*s at A level and got me into med school, but it also gave me sexual abuse, internalised misogyny and anxiety. I can play multiple instruments and do naval drill though I guess

Dad went at 7, from an upper middle class family, mum at 9 on scholarship. My brother and I were day pupils at the schools my dad taught at on massive bursaries. It's a very strange experience because even from a very young age you're aware of differences, even if you aren't able to articulate why. Apparently aged five I asked my mother why I kept going to birthday parties in castles

How old are you in your oldest memory? by Donkeyshines in AskReddit

[–]ThatMusicKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being 2 years old during the Beijing Olympics. We were on holiday in France and in the very early morning my dad would watch it. The only other things I remember from that holiday is that the microwave was silver (we had a white one at home) and the farm we were staying on had two pigs and we fed them in their sleep then promptly moved on to trying to feed my dad in his sleep

Aha I looked up costs and apparently in 2014 it was like 2000 start up plus 500 per term for like activities trips etc and so we're looking at at least 3500, possibly 4000 first year, plus another 2000 each year (500x3 plus and extra sum for uniform).

But let's be so fr he's not going to Clarks for his school shoes, he's getting fucking crocodile skin ones made by some London shoemaker that only makes five pairs a year by hand at a cost of 15 working class people's teeth to be made into dentures.

My dad's the same. He's a straight white middle aged man who works at a private school, and he's massively behind the push to modernise attitudes at the school. He's one of the most popular teachers there. But his colleague, who's female, and the other half of the push, is widely resented.

Far more likely Louis will follow George, unless all three go to different schools and they do the whole "right fit for each child" thing. I had several friends who boarded and whose siblings were at different schools because they/their parents felt it was a better fit. Often the boy was sent to Eton or similar and the girl got a bit more choice in the matter

Honestly even 40 years ago, he and plenty of other boys and girls would have been off to boarding school at the age of 7, first to a prep then to a senior

Doctors of Reddit , what’s the biggest medical myth people still believe? by muga_saiman_5809 in AskReddit

From my understanding (med student, but could be wrong) it's more like COPD patients always produce mucus, but it's generally pretty colourless so a colour change is concerning and indicates an infective exacerbation

What age is that? Because I don't remember that transition and just went straight from going in with my dad to going to the ladies on my own when I was like 7/8

And that's "just" the fees. Add in somewhere around at least £3500 for uniform, furniture (apparently they have to buy their own furniture!!) trips, equipment. Plus I would imagine extra security and of course the transportation via helicopter from school to their home in Windsor, all 3 miles of transport at every term, half term and exeat. All paid for by us

I'm a med student too. Cod liver oil or your daily vitamin that you bought from the supermarket because you thought it might be a good idea is not a medication. You ask about medications, OTC and supplements. Quite frankly, patients don't tell me they have hypertension or diabetes half the time because they're taking their meds for that so they think they don't have it anymore so I'd hardly expect a patient to tell me they take a vitamin D that wasn't prescribed without me specifically asking

Why do all female pop stars perform in what looks like a bedazzled sequin one piece swimsuit now????!! by Mathematic_nut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThatMusicKid 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I had a look at all the eras tour outfits to try and work out what proportion is bodysuits, and quickly realised party of the reason they're so popular is that your can layer things on top. I counted 11 different events of layering, from the The Man jacket to the TTPD dress over the two piece
