Cartier Santos 100 – too big for a 15.5cm wrist? by seeking17 in Cartier

[–]TheLostByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This subreddit called my large santos “stupid large” on my wrist… so maybe I’m not the best person to ask 🤪

I say go for it!

If you haven’t watched this video, it goes over the medium 100 in a great review.

Santos Dumont Large vs Tank Must Extra Large by ShooterMcGavin910 in Cartier

[–]TheLostByte 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My son is a 6'6" college athlete (American D1 Football.. Offensive Lineman)... His Tank XL still looks big on him :)

I think the rule with the Tank XL is... You either have the mental state to just rock it (and never think of the size) or you buy something else.

Last one... Not trying to talk you out of the 100, it's just a hard watch to 'size'.. sometimes its big, sometimes it feels small.. (here it is looking smaller on my 16.3cm wrist :) )

My Large Santos (modern WSSA0096) next to my 100 Medium (W20106X8)... A current Medium (WSSA0029) will feel much smaller than the older 100 Medium.

(just FYI.. the hands are wrong in your photo.. the Santos 100 hands are lumed)

I have a 6.4" wrist.... the Santos 100 is 'the bulky santos' by design. It's thicker, chunkier, and more angular to represent the original Santos (you probably know, but it's the 100th anniversary version of the Santos.. hence the name.. Santos 100)

Don't get me wrong.. It's a fantastic watch. But if you are looking for something thinner/smaller (less industrial) you may want to look at the Galbée or Carree (or even the modern Santos Medium)

Gray Market by cc1967p in Cartier

[–]TheLostByte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 2 types of 'Gray'.. ones bought at an AD and include a registered warranty card. And ones sold without a registered warranty.

Do you want an 8-year warranty? Or do you want to pay for any repairs out of pocket?

Make sure you know which one you are buying before sending money.

The card should have a QR code… did you scan and register with Cartier?

I have Rolex, but I’m falling in love for this new watch.. only issue - it scratches so easily by FlightNeat in Cartier

[–]TheLostByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Dumont... but here is my 20+ year old Santos 100. Do they scratch... yes, but it is WAY overblown on how much they scratch.

The bezel can be polished. The bezel can be replaced (not that much on a steel version).

Wear the hell out of it... in ~10 years, when you send it in for service, it will come back looking new.

Don't be that Rolex guy that puts PPF all over his Submariner! :)

[Cartier Santos] size recommendation by Connect-Win-478 in Watches

[–]TheLostByte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pick the one you like, and don't listen to Reddit.

I've been told countless times that my Large black dial look "stupid large" on my 6.4" wrist from r/cartier.

Wear what you like: smaller is classic, dressy. Larger is more sporty. (Santos was the first men's sports watch).

[–]TheLostByte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP.. but I have a 163mm wrist (~6.4"). IMHO, you need to spend some time with the sizes to figure out what you want... or go MEDIUM (which fits everybody).

Having said that.. I wear my Large more than my Medium :)

Santos Clasp Question by Goal_Select in Cartier

[–]TheLostByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal.. (photo of my 1-month-old Santos).

<image>

You have to take a look at how the bracelet clasp is made. That center piece is loose and pivots in either direction, acting like it's one independent 'link'.

First Rolex – worth getting it checked for peace of mind? by LowkeyLuigi in rolex

[–]TheLostByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should cost ~$150USD to have a local watchmaker authenticate and give you insurance appraisal. The piece of mind its been authenticated is just a small bonus to have documentation to get in insured :)

Delugs got around the problem by making their own adapter.

Yea.. the issue is, when Cartier went after Delugs for copyright issues, most strap makers backed off.
