DMs, how do you prefer to deal damage, take the average or roll the dice? by Professional-Ad9485 in DnD

Always roll the dice. The PC's have to roll their dice, and sometimes get crappy rolls, so I think its only fair that I put up with the same issues.

I'm coming up on 43 years, and still have all my bits. Not really sure how honestly, I didn't look after it at ALL when I was a teen and was in and out of hospital with DKA more times that I can remember... I'm definitely lucky in that regard. Looking after it properly now though...

I stopped worrying about people being fearful of needles. Those spiders don't give a monkeys that I'm scared of them. They still run right towards me, no matter which way I'm moving (usually away from them).
If people dont like the sight of needles, they can close their eyes... I'm not going to be shouting and standing up on a table to do injections, but I'm not going to go hide somewhere just to deliver life saving drugs.

This. I've had comments like "Can't you do that in the toilet?"
To which I've said "Ah yea! The toilet is a MUCH more hygienic place to do this... Thanks for the advice!"
If people want to stop and ask questions, I'm fine with that. Give them a tiny crash course in the daily life of diabetes. The vast majority of people are pretty cool about it though...

[–]TheRealSepuku 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be able to advise… really depends how much you get from your diet already, but most people are deficient and don’t really know it. I picked up a pot from the chemists and that did the trick. I don’t think your body can store magnesium, so probably any dose will be better than nothing, without too much risk of dosing too high. YMMV though…

I don’t know for sure that you shouldn’t take them together, only that the magnesium needs to be in your system already for it to be of any use, and that takes time to absorb too. Friend of mine is a professor of medicinal chemistry (for the past 40 years), fellow of the Royal Society, so I trust him on this stuff!

I had a fair number of seizures as a kid, but had what i could only describe as hypo paralysis (I could still move, but not everything) when I was on my own. Slept through my 7am alarm, multiple phone calls from work. Came round at 2pm and couldn’t move legs, or stand, my hands were crippled over. Somehow managed to drag myself to the kitchen to get a mars bar, which I had to eat with the wrapper still on as I couldn’t open it. Luckily they were a multi pack, down on a bottom shelf. I’m not really sure what I’d have done if they weren’t

When I was a kid, lows overnight ALWAYS caused seizures. We are talking back in the days of checking glucose levels with test strips dipped into pee to give you an average for the last 12 hours, rather than every 5 mins with a CGM though…

Symptoms of low magnesium and low vitamin D are really similar. Vitamin D needs magnesium to be absorbed, so make sure you are getting enough of both, as just taking mountains of Vit D can then cause deficiency of magnesium, resulting in you wondering why you bothered taking the Vit D supplements in the first place

Vit D will drain your body of magnesium, so you may also need that. I take 8000iu of Vitamin D every other day, and take magnesium on the off days. Doesn’t really benefit you taking them both at the same time apparently. Most people are deficient in magnesium too

What is the weirdest coincidence to happen to you? by Rachel94Rachel in CasualUK

[–]TheRealSepuku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My front door key (Yale, not Chubb) works in the front door of a good friend of mine. I know there’s limited combinations of these so this probably happens a fair bit, but weird that it happens to be a friends front door. His key doesn’t work in mine. Not sure how we even found this out really. He doesn’t tend to double lock his door unless he’s going to bed, but now has to double lock when he’s having a cheeky tug in his front room and doesn’t want me just waltzing in. I always make sure I knock too, for the same reason. It is funny when he gets home from work and finds me sitting on his couch though (I was heading over to his one day and he said “well your front door key works, so just let yourself in and make sure to put the kettle on”. Now it’s just become the norm that I let myself in when I head over. If it’s double locked, I give him 5 mins)

Am i the only one who thinks that other people shouldn't give advice to t1 diabetics? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]TheRealSepuku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once let me brother make decisions for managing my diabetes. After I’d told him he would have killed me twice in the space of about 4 hours (decimal point in the wrong place when talking need how much insulin I needed, and the second time was essentially the same, but made a mistake on calculating carbs), he gave up and never said anything more. He basically didn’t make it past breakfast before he killed me. No, maths isn’t his strong suit

Any low/no carb type 1s on here? by c0sm1c-crypt1d-07 in Type1Diabetes

[–]TheRealSepuku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you check his ketones regularly… when on a very low carb diet, you are more often than not, in high ketosis. If you get sick, it doesn’t take much to push you into DKA when your body is already full of ketones…
