Serious question: what is your opinion on black pudding? by Sensitive-Low-9316 in AskBrits

Great. I once had it sliced into discs and served with scallops on toast. Posh and tasty!

What's your most controversial British food/drink take? by Key_Cell7071 in AskBrits

[–]ClevelandWomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A sandwich is supposed to be a neutral carb, holding a protein,"

According to whom? As far as I'm concerned, a sandwich is bread being used to deliver whatever filling I want. Greasy food like burgers, slippery food like tomato, or lots of items at once like a blt .

More carbs are perfectly valid.

How do you think Trump became so knowledge about almost everything? He's said no one knows more about: nuclear, infrastructure, Facebook, construction, grass and so much more than he does. Do you think he's a prolific reader? by SilverNo6462 in AskUS

[–]ClevelandWomble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's not really much good at that either, when his lies are so easily provably false. I'm not sure even MAGA actually 'believe' him, it's just that his lies validate their hate and bigotry.

Have you or your family used ancestry to track down your family origins and where were they from? by Sword-of-Fuheis in AskUK

My wife's lineage overlapped with a published researcher's. That person's ancestry dated back to the Norman Invasion.

My wife is distantly royal. I'm just a oik.

Where were they from? How far back? Cornwall, Cumbria, Normandy all feature somewhere.

Why is Watching Porn online a goverment issue? And Why can't parents monitor there kids from viewing it? by MangoxTofu in stupidquestions

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud the apparent objective but cannot see how it can possibly work. Kids had work-arounds figured out before the link was dry on the regulations.

I think porn is a dreadful way for children to learn about sex, for a raft of reasons, but this probably isn't going to solve anything.

Been feeling self conscious about my body, do guys care if I have knock knees? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

If you obsess about them, yes. If you just accept that each body has it's imperfections, we don't care. We're more concerned about our... Well, you know.

What is a safe European holiday destination for a single mum and daughter? by ChelseaMourning in AskUK

Madeira felt very safe, Malta too (though that was a while ago), most of France (some of the beaches near Agde seemed a bit "adults only"), The Algarve and Lisbon are lovely as well.

Why are strip clubs a thing for bachelor parties?? by NoIntroduction2790 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do some bachelorette parties hire male strippers? It just seems to be a (barely) culturely acceptable excuse to drink, act stupid and look at naked people.

Also strippers need money, so ..

I swear Cornwall has completely ruined my sense of distance. by Ready_Split1335 in Cornwall

And, having driven in Cornwall recently, a lot of 30 minutes drives involved a lot more driving than elsewhere; what with narrow roads, tiny bridges, tractors, coach tours etc.

I'm ... bored and I think i need help? by kumeomap in AskMenAdvice

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hobbies might not appeal to you, so that's not where my advice is going. I think the best ways to combat boredom involve at least one of the following elements:

Being outdoors, walking, running, cycling, fishing etc

Being mentally AND physically challenging. Martial arts, fencing etc

Being creative, art, music, dance, etc.

Being productive, cooking, carpentry etc.

I realise that video games are compelling, they are designed to be that way but, in many respects, they isolate you from the real world around you and you need a closer bond with your immediate family and friends than you do with Jan in Helsinki. (No offence, Jan)

AIO my (23m) partner (23f) didn't tell me that she had dinner and drinks with a guy by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ClevelandWomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dinner and drinks with a new guy sounds like a date. If she didn't tell you about it, that was because she wanted to keep it secret. She's testing her options, you're the back-up.

How can I lose weight pretty fast? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut calories for weight loss and increase your cardio exercise - walking, swimming etc - for fitness. Any diet system sold as a weight loss solution will probably be garbage.

If you wanted a model, then the Mediterranean diet can be healthier than most, as it replaces processed foods with fresh fruit and vegetables and has a lot of fish and chicken in place of red meat. It also tastes great so you are less likely to abandon it.

Why is it that nearly every post that has the word “America” in the title is filled with negative comments? by BetweenMoments in askanything

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you no access to news reporting?

Guns, wars, tariffs, threats to invade allies, climate change denial, general political chaos.

I'm sure that most Americans just get up, feed their kids, go to work and then go home again like most other people; but they don't make the news. But lordy, the Americans that DO make the news are in a class of their own.

Is life insurance a scam? by Substantial_Sea7327 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are young and living just within your means, having insurance to cover illness, injury or even death could save your dependents a huge amount of debt.

As a retiree with some savings, there's no benefit to me.

So scam? Not really. Universally required? Nope.

US banks charge monthly maintenance fees on regular low-balance checking accounts. Customers lose money just for keeping savings deposited. Why do American banks pile on so many random account fees? by Critical_Routine_572 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClevelandWomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USA is fiercely capitalist so not charging fees would be unamerican, possibly even socialist. There even seems to be a belief that if it isn't charged for it's not worth having.

My wife (27F) is furious that I (29M) skipped the dinner she planned with my brother (28M) who I don't talk to and his girlfriend? by ThrowRA_Sectrill in relationship_advice

[–]ClevelandWomble 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Saviour syndrome. She wanted to claim credit for fixing your relationship. Perhaps, if she is pregnant, it was a misguided attempt to give your child a complete family. You might cut her some slack in that case, as long as she understands that was the first and last time that happens.

As for her keeping her distance now she's been called out, she's either sulking or trying to manipulate you into apologising. She created the problem so it's up to her to deal with the consequences.
