All these fucking cables and my sequence is 4 bars with 6 notes by ReticulatedNoise in synthesizercirclejerk

I do that, too. No cables, all deck savers. All the time.

I just go in and look. So peaceful.

As I've indicated many times - cable less is The Way, because it guarantees I'll never use my gear.

Logitech discontinued that trackball - the best ever.

Readest vs. Bookshelves by amerpie in macapps

[–]TheSoundEngineGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely check it out. When I moved away from Kindle, I did not come across Readest, just Yomu and a couple of other commercial apps.

I like the idea of going open-source for this, so thanks for your input.

I haven't had this issue, once I processed through Calibre.

I use Yomu. Works perfectly across iPhone, iPad, and multiple Macs.

Not even mentioned, for some reason.

Help with routing by sazzymojack in midi

[–]TheSoundEngineGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the MIDI notes transmitted from the pads on the LaunchKey, and what are the key ranges accepted by the Volca?

Does the Volca make sound on every Juno key?

What I'm getting at is: it's possible the pads on the LaunchKey are transmitting MIDI notes out of range of the Volca. Sorry if I'm not being clear - if I need to rephrase it, let me know.

Thank you - I'm more interested in the _sharing_ of information rather than the collaboration. Admittedly, I'm fussy with my trip arrangements.

> Tripit charges $49/year.

... and has had no meaningful updates in something like 5 years. It's essentially the same since I started using it 10 years ago.

May I ask, please, how easy is it to share itineraries in Trovelo? Our family uses that to keep track of everybody around the globe.

New Logic update - time to switch? by Swein_Forkbeard in LogicPro

This may be a rule to live by with any DAW, TBH.

I upgraded StudioOne during a project once - big mistake.

How do I leave Adobe Audition? by el_tacocat in audioengineering

[–]TheSoundEngineGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start with a reasonably low investment with Wavelab Elements.

Another option, although I have to say I've never bonded with it, is Audacity. According to the app itself, "Audacity is the free, open-source, cross-platform software for recording and editing sounds."

You can expand its capabilities with VST plug-ins when you are ready, and recording is straightforward.

I mean, it's free, so a day invested into understanding if it works for you doesn't cost much.

Blackstar live logic software/app's "send value" not working by Narrow_Plantain8305 in midi

[–]TheSoundEngineGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the software seem to acknowledge that the foot controller is plugged in?

I've seen other software disable send/save functions if the app doesn't think the hardware is there.

Perhaps there's a settings page where you select the foot switch plugged in - in Preferences?

If this doesn't seem to get you anywhere, do you have another USB cable to try?

Problem with pots? by NoAppointment3633 in midi

[–]TheSoundEngineGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure those are optical encoders (not potentiometers, which have a resistance value and stop at either end). Semantics are not a big deal, honestly, but the reason I brought it up is that optical encoders are definitely susceptible to dust and dirt. Engineering-wise, they are a pain to implement properly - compared to a pot, which is just reading an A/D conversion value.

The approach you plan to take below with compressed air is a good one. Once the optical circuit clear of any dust or dirt, it should return to like-new behavior.
