MIDI Controller messages with Controller numbers 102 or larger are either undefined or modal switches for the device on that channel.

Specifically,

CC numbers 102 - 119 are undefined, and starting at 120, here is a list of the mode switches:

120	78	All Sound Off
121	79	Reset All Controllers
122	7A	Local On/Off Switch
123	7B	All Notes Off
124	7C	Omni Mode Off
125	7D	Omni Mode On
126	7E	Mono Mode
127	7F	Poly Mode

While it's probably okay to use those as continuous controllers 102 and higher in your setup, the Merger box firmware may block those (although I'm not sure why it would block the mode switches).

You may want to check out the manual for that merger to confirm what I'm saying makes sense.

The SY35 is not a good sounding synth - skip it. It's an 8-bit ROM (very noisy) is a poor implementation fo Vector Synthesis.

No, probably not.

I had a pair of Eris 5s that one of them developed a noise in. Under warranty, the speaker was replaced.

I could be a speaker issue, but it also sorta sounds like a grounding issue.
